I can't see a company that size buying boxes from Dell. They could save quite a bit of money if they didn't have their head's in their asses. But I guess that's what makes the (capitalist) world go round.
No, but it is superficially easier to install and manage until you have some virus-related calamity.
You can't make the argument that linux is hard to install anymore. It's just as visual and easy as Windows. The only difference is linux installation can be more complicated if you go off the beaten path and want some weird custom setup.
I can understand thinking Windows is cheaper until you have some virus infestation or general system corruption, but after that it's unconscionable.
Which you KNOW you will get virii and adware/spyware/malware because keeping Windows secure is like keeping Michael Jackson away from little kids.
If you know you're going to spend money on antivirus clients for workstations, AND server licenses for exchange servers, AND antispyware software, AND the office apps, AND the people to do the implementation, then how can you argue that linux isn't cheaper?
do the work at home and bring it to your new job. make sure it's released under some sort of OSS license and use it at your new job. when you get fired again at your new job you can take it to the next job and the next job.
I can easily see Microsoft patenting this technology once they have it implemented.
This can only further limit other OS's.
To me it feels more like a race between MS and OSS programmers to get the technology out there to be 'previous art' before we get shut out in the cold by our own legal system.
4. Wait for the hundreds of repetetive comments about how bad Slashdot is but same people that complain keep coming back driving up your ad revenue.
and as far as the iPod used as a recover tool, that's kinda like putting linux on a toaster. you could do it. but why?
for $100 you could have an external firewire hard drive that could do the same or as others have noted.. you could use knoppix/knoppix variants for rescue.
to see his desktop... ;)
you can SEE the silver spoon by which he is fed

Linux is free, but the support for it is not.
Microsoft now supplies free IT employees with their expensive OS?
Automobile enthusiast magazines give positive reviews to advertising auto makers! that's what's next!!!
so when i upgrade my kernel.. i can rebuild the source to match it. and so they don't have to release a binary for each kernel created.

then you spend $400 on components to send video out, audio out and have a remote to control it.
so for $1k you can have a Mac Mini PVR
What does Bill Clinton have to do with this? Is he serenading everyone with his saxophone? ;-)

Bill Gates has been using the reader for a loooooooong time
There is NO 4.0 final release ISO files as of yet. The latest available are the 4.0 RC1 ISO's.
You'll have to wait a bit for the new ISO's.
It was also a huge burdon on their incoming/outgoing bandwidth.
Original Story
Now all we have to do is wait until October 2004 for it to ship! errr....
the creature you speak of has a scientific name of a headhumper.
I'm shocked you posted this AC... seriously.
tell that to nVidia and ATI.. they seem to keep making these massively fast video cards that sell like hotcakes. i
but i'm sure it's just because they do great 2d rendering.
Apple trains people to use putty knives to work on their hardware?
I could only hope that will be the next posted story.
do you remember the reports they based their information from?
do you remember where those reports came from?
the rich get richer. the poor get poorer.
the poor haven't realized they're now consumers and not citizens and the rich have their thumb on them.
who knows if they will soon? who knows if they ever will?
I didn't know we had an anti-stupid law.
Or that there is a law that says you can't point lasers at aircraft.
I know there SHOULD be.
blaming it on a political party is just as lame as the media blaming it on the game companies or the games.
