I was working for a software firm writing a custom ActiveX control to add to MS Word. We needed to demo the system to the clients so we rushed to put together a prototype of the screens. Since we thought the sales team would run the demo, we didn't add any error correction code.
During the demo, the sales team invites the CTO to use the software and gander at our handiwork. While the CTO is coming to the front of the room, the sales rep explains that this is demo code, so it won't work exactly like the finished product. The CTO sits down and the first button he clicks on is to create a new document from an XML template. The machine instantly froze. No blue screen, no error messages. And then get got the machine to go through a cold boot.
We still got the contract and delieverd the control on time with zero defects. To this day, we are still trying to duplicate the error.
When I went for a admin position, my interviewer had setup a small LAN with some laptops and a small hub. He unplugged one of the laptops, but made sure the cables were hidden.
I ended up getting the job because I knew within seconds that this wasn't a software problem and then started tracing cable.
What's the point of all this? I know how to BS my way through an interview even though I don't know the material. That's how i got my first programming job. If they would have asked me to write code, I would have been SOL.
If they could sell a version of Linux with web, email, IM, etc. capabilities then we could abandon the bulky desktop machines. For the average user who just uses the web and email, the PS2 could be the true replacement for the PC.
Of course, I would never get rid of my PC...but I don't think I'm the average user.;o)
i know there are palmOS emulators out there (for all kinds of platforms) mainly for development and testing, but what about a WinCE emulator?
Why emulate Win CE when you should just give in to Microsoft's world domination and use their products only. Then you wouldn't have to worry about such things.
Microsoft recently announced that.Net would provide support for Linux and Unix servers. How will your group present this given the intergration problems and lack of standard support in the past. (i.e. The non standard use of Kerebose, the lack of W3C conformance in IE, etc.)
I think the real issue is all the new advancements in science is in part because computers are being used to solve complex math problems.
I believe the old saying goes:
All biology is chemistry.
All chemistry is physics.
All physics is math.
I agree. Many children gain an understanding about the world through experiences they have as children. As toys and games colide, many more children will grow up learning about space, science and history without books, but with interactive experiences that are developed with technology.
All I Want For Xmas is A PS2, a PS2,....
I work for a company called Keane. We are a consulting firm but we also have a medical software company. The full name escapes me right now but it contains Keanse somewhere. They've been making medical software for 30 years or something like that. I might be a possible lead to your solution.
My understanding is that the Mozilla Public License (MPL) is a subset of the GNU Public License (GPL). Thus the MPL is a GPL license with additions. This means that dual licensing the code shouldn't be any problem.
Of course, every time I try to read those things I glaze over.
Novell does have some nice software that they could sell. The only problem is the lack of marketing and developer support for there products. IBM has always been strong in developer support and combined they should have some marketing abilities.
Just don't make me watch anymore subtitled commericals.
I agree. My handwritting is so bad that I can't figure out what I wrote down much less some computer. That's the reason I never "scratch" a memo anymore. Everything I do involves a keyboard of some sort or verbal communications. Apple, please don't take away my ability to communicate.
It will be amazing if he can even construct an intelligent argument. I'm sure it's not as easy as playing the drums. Me go bang bang like this....me Lars
Congress needs to waste billions of dollars and ignore real problems, like what the president is sticking his dick into, before we can get an indifferent ruling on MP3s. Thank you congress!
Linux can do much of the work that W2K can. The problem is that major differences are under the hood. Look at Novell. There server can run TCP/IP, act as a web server and run in clusters but MS shops don't take the time to look at all of the details. They look to see if Windows can do it also.
I would hope that the DOJ would move on this they are right now really overworked. This has been the most prosperous time in US history. Companies are being valued at 200-300 billion dollars. I think it's only a matter of time before we need some new laws to help.
Now I want to replace my palm. I wonder what my wife will think?

At least I know which friends I will not accept disks or files from. ;o)

If I only kept my transformers and voltron toys as a kid....

I'm not sure of the details of MBONE, but maybe it would be a great global distribution system with some modifications. Another OS project...

Personally, I don't know why the cows and corn would be on the Internet? Maybe to visit /.

I remember the Neutrinos. They were those funny little things on the Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles. I think I just dropped in karma. TURTLE POWER!

Yup. MS can now see how much they need geeks. Trying to sell an operating system to upper management can only take you so far.

Proving yet again that all geeks don't just sit in a small, dim lit room every night of their life....just 80%.
Our 56K will still outperform any 40Gbps lines in the future because by MS .net server will be in a perpetual crashed state.
