    I'm suprised you've been modded 'funny' instead of 'troll' for being sarcastic about the CPSC; the vast majority of /. readers are loyal Democrats (or disgruntled that the Democrats are leftist enough). This is the kind of big government nanny action they love and just voted to continue and increase.

    Yes but can you fake out Windows 8 into installing programs on removeable media? It's meant to be a laptop replacement not a media playing widget so don't say to just use the expansion card for music and movies. Can Oracle XE or Java SDK install to the SDXC? Prior versions of Windows do not play well with that kind of thing.

    No... that's not how taxes work... I see what you are tyring to say... in that they just pass on the costs... but the price at retail is set by what the customer is willing to pay, not by the cost of production, so any cost (including taxes) is money out of the firm's pockets.

    The price at retail is set by what customers are willing to pay at a certain supply; if taxes were not built into the price, demand would press the price down by the amount of the missing tax (assuming competition).

    No, the individual is where it stops. Only private individuals pay taxes. The taxes paid by your employer are paid on your behalf.

    Rule 1 of corporate income taxes: taxes are an expense built into the price of products. No company pays a penny of their own in taxes, they just collect it from customers and pass it on.

    If I was a foreign power wanting to build a genetic weapon to specifically target the President, I would haver been collecting the DNA of all the top echelon politicians well before they came close to running their presidential campaigns. If I can think of this in 10 seconds of reading TFS (not even TFA) then I'm sure that the bad guys have already thought of it - unless you subscribe to the theory that the bad guys are always dumb.

    That doesn't work in the case of the current president; he went from junior state senator to junior federal senator to president so fast no one with such a program would have considered him 'top echelon' in time.

    I've got a load of car stereos I want to shift fast because..uh..I've upgraded to in-car mp3 players or something. Anyway, if you want a load of car stereos quick and aren't going to ask too many questions then get in touch.

    It does sound dodgy since 4GB modules shouldn't be anything to sneeze at. But image a poorly spec'ed corporate purchase that got PCs with one 4GB module of 667Hz memory when the chipset supports 1066 - if they want to upgrade to 8GB the proper way to do it is to toss the individual slow ones and get a pair of 1066 4GB for each computer.

    I once worked at a nonprofit that redistributed bulk PCs donations from large donors to many small nonprofits. We would get a hundred computers at a time and they almost always 1: had minimal RAM and 2: no hard drives. Any donations of RAM would be appreciated. If you have a similar charity in your area consider old hard drives (that are still working OK) as well.

  18. When Poppa Bush lost to Clinton because of Perot being the election, the rules were changed. At that point, the republicans pushed through rules that pretty much prevented 3rd parties.

    What are you babbling about? I just got my mail in ballot and there's 16 choices in the presidential election section. And the top one is some guy from a party I've never even heard of. It's getting like the cereal section of the supermarket. All I want is basic no-nonsense wheat flakes and there's all this sugary crap in over-produced packaging.

    The saying is that 10 economists will give you 11 firm opinions regarding any given economic analysis or plan. So putting quotes around studies and declaring it wrong might make you feel smug but it's far from a definitive response.

    No, sorry, the President is in charge of the executive regulatory agencies. He can make sweeping changes via these and the only thing Congress can do about it is cut whichever agency's budget in the following year.

    So essentially, they have openly stated that because the practice is useful to the government ut should not be subjected to judiciary review, despite clear concerns from privacy advocates, and seemingly legitimate legal challenges to the validity of the practice?

    At issue isn't the wiretaps themselves are kosher but whether you can punish the telecom for doing what the people at whatever government agency ordered them to do. This is pitting the telecoms and the people against each other while the real culprit, the government agents, just snicker. The entire private sector needs to take up the protest together.

    I'm a little suprised even the legit ones work properly. Manufacturers of anything in China are the same mindset of those who passed off industrial chemicals as baby milk formula. Speaking of which, watch out for packaged food in the supermarkets these days - a lot of it says 'Made in China' and it's just a matter of time before a major ingredients scandal hits.
