"Three month after major gaming studios merged with MPAA, the new MPAA declared yesterday the 3rd of december 2012 that pirates are costing billions of dollar to gaming corporations. According to MPAA studies prove that solo gaming is dramatically decreasing and the reason is networking and peer to peer sharing of games."
Is it acceptable to live in a world where some people go insane ? or is it better to give up unrestricted and unsupervised powers to authorities ?
Powers and data which will be used outside of security scope. Will later be stollen or sold to benefit corporations ? Do you accept these data to be accessed without your control and consent ?
Also where is the real problem with this shooting ? Is it restricted communication or far too easy access to weapons ?
There is no such carnage in europe because weapons access is more limited.
Do not let confuse yourself. Weapons lobbies prefer pointing at the lack of communication instead of pointing at too many weapons in the hands of teens. And they are backed up by security lobbies that want more tools to control people. And they are supported by IT industry that urge to sell new datamining tools.
People should watch movie (or read comics) "V for Vendetta". An insightfull story describing how democracy can shoot at its own privacy and freedom.
Besides as Coran writes "We have leaders we deserve".
Solo RPG video games give you sense of being unique. You are Neo or Luke Skywalker and noone else can have that power.
Only you can save the world.
No MMO gives that today. Even super heroes games like http://www.cityofheroes.com/ have so many heroes that you dont have the sensation of being so marvelous.
You spend your time harvesting missions, badges and now crafting.
Not very heroic !
MMO RPG (or so called) emphaze on the community experience. You share stories with others, you show your achievements to others, you develop your character with others. You oppose and win against others. These "others" are people,
and this is important. Even though oponents were bots with behaviour no different that humans, knowning they are bots would render them not as interesting as humans.
After all I prefer to chat a girl than a bot and
I prefer to constantly win and humiliate another player rather than a mob. OK, some would prefer chatting a bot...
Last comment, MMO RPG are no RPG. I spent a tremendous amount of days playing table top RPG when I were young. And the experiment is no comparison with computer RPG.
Compared, computer RPG are really flat and
MMO RPG are event flatter than solo RPG. There is only basic heroism, limited sense of achievement and
no way to come with innovative solution that game author did not imagine.
The killer game will provide real freedom and content , the sense of being unique and still experiencing with tons of other players.
Your life can be in danger too in some fanatic Muslim countries if you talk bad about religion.
I did not read nor do I know anything about that news, but if someone is put to jail because he criticized a religion, then that is really frightening about that country's freedom.
I cannot believe that is the sole reason. Remember news can be spined both ways.
When quake arena was launched most of people did not understand the "multi-player only" idea behind it. Now most of FPS are this "multi-player only" way. Call of Duty, Battlefield for instance are a multi-player games, even when in solo mode. During solo gaming other characters are controlled by IA whether they are friend or foe.
"The Crossing" brings that sort of innovation. Indeed it can be a flop. Not because its idea is bad, but because people might not be prepared and then just dismiss the idea because they dont understand it. But in a few years I am sure it will be adapted to plenty of other game. Just like that "multi-player only" concept.
Face it, a FPS is just not as thrilling against IA than against humans. But on the opposite solo experience provides the sensation of being THE hero. A traditional online FPS cannot provide that experience because the game must be balanced to please everyone. How can everyone be Splinter Cell's hero playing the same game ? Shadows would be too overcrowed;)
Even in MMORPG against environment (PVE) you cannot provide this balance between challenging situation and character development. With "The Crossing" you can be THE hero of the story, be overpowered, and still confront challenging foes who have innovative in their tactics. And if you still want not to encounter a human being, you still have the choice not to buy that game:)
Therefore "The Crossing" proposes a great idea, let's see how it is implemented...
I have read with great interest news stating that games only use half power on a PS3.
As a mater of fact, I am not bound to pay complete price for a defect product that has limited performance. Therefore I ask for a 50% rebate on the price of my PS3.
When games will use more than 50% I promise I will pay the rest of the product, the same you promise future games will use more of your product.
If i pay RIAA by blank cd or Zune, then it means i can download anything i want, it already paid ! Why should i buy some audio album compact disk then ?
If i am not supposed to download something that i did not pay, then that fee to RIAA is not very legit.
When will police fine you for excessive speed just because you can over speed with your new car ? That is plain stupid and i wonder if that can be defended in court.
Today gay life style is considered as hot at some religious devotion. Often they also confront.
How would Blizzard behave with guilds that are limiting to real world religions ? => The answer would help know what we really expect Blizzard to manage the G&L guilds. In fact Blizzards answered that.
Specifically how behave with muslims trends that are activists (like some christians are activists), not speaking illegal or terror activism. => today in occident, muslim religion put people at unease, like homosexual way of life. Promoting mind openess must tackle all subjects. And I expect this to be problematic.
My personnal question is, why would people want to gather in a gay and lesbian guild (in a MMO) ? Probably not to be harrassed. Then why would people be harrassed ? If they talk about the sexual orientaion. Why would I speak of my sexual orientation in a MMO ? What relation between sexual orientation and a game ?
If you come at my cafe and hack pentagon from it, who will be charged ? Will I be able to have a secure system that prevents hacking of my system ? Will I know how to log and protect my logs to cover myself in case someone sue me ?
If thousands of people do a joint DDOS against web site I suppose these legal web sites and companies will strike back. Yes they are most of them legal even though their acts are ethically wrong and sometimes their acts are legally wrong. This means they might want to go against my provider and sue it because it cant do legal selling on the Internet. It is really easier to sue a few ISP rather than john does or zomby computers. How long do you thing ISP will stand if legal companies want them millions of $ because of lost sales because their website went down ?
That is a good idea but it cant work unless supported by a law, and i do not think law will permit vigilant groups to decide by themselve whether a website / company is having wrong / illegal business behaviour. Or is the Internet like old Far West ?;) If that is not users who decide whether a site is spamming but if that's a judge who decides so, I don't think he will tell users groups to launch a DDOS attack on the given website.
a/ Do law must follow general ethics (street guy's ethics) or b/ does it must promote ethics even though it goes against general ethics ?
Either answer is problematic. if a/ then why some law are not still removed ? For instance most people dont care about homosexuality or abortion and they are still forbidden in many places. if b/ then why some ethics are still against the law ? Looking at the % of "illegal" downloading it should be put as "legal". And what to say about prohibition (whether alcohool, drugs or guns) ?
Who does law must serve ? The biggest number ? They migth get spinned or just loose their ethics. Some guardians of ethics ? Now people refuse to follow religion or philosophy ethics and prefer their very own personnal ethics. Some commercial or political influence ? They tend to only server their own interests, but this has imppacts on wide scale.
Just around Y2000 everone talked about web developers and web sites. Where are they now the IT buble has gone ? Nowhere, my web dev friends have a hard time to work now.

Linux Can't Kill Windows

10 years ago IT was only beginning to look at Windows and did not seriously thought of Windows for most of their server infrastructure. Now people say the same thing but about Linux.
Why did Microsoft succeeded ? 1/ network integration with personnal computers 2/ marketing 3/ ease of use 4/ price compared to Unix systems 5/ drivers & software
Points 1 and 2 are Linux weakness. Point 3 had a lot of improvements. Point 4 : Linux is at advantage (until you dont buy Red Hat Server that costs more than W2003 SRV). Point 5 is improving for linux.
Some experiment in our corp. We wanted to use Linux to host antivirus repositories & Windows Update Service & hardware+software inventory tools. None of the tools we selected work with Linux. Therefore we have to pay a W2003 for each box... hardware : 1300 euros, system : 700 euros, software : free or licenced per user. We plan to have tens of such computers. The lack of software compatible with Linux costs a lot of money. And slows down the propagation of Linux.
would this prevent me from installing wow on both computers ?
i dont want to play the 2 at the same time (wow would not authorize since i presume i can only log once on the server), that's just for convenience: the desktop for great video and laptop when im not at home
> And further, reacts instantly. The computer is capable of more powerful maneuvers simply because it can command more than 1 group of troops at once.
Well technically that is not true. The AI commands its troops one after the other, but the time required for a move is much less than yours, so it might give you the impression of simultaneity. However, AI is also turn based implemented. They have cycles can are basically: 1/ analyze situation 2/ forecast & prepare agenda 3/ command actions and movements 4/ wait some time to let player move and to let CPU display fancy graphics the player love so much
All nerds will like MMO, even those who do not play.

I remember the time of Windows 95.
When you installed that operating system
there was no activation.
There was also no
serial number verification
since you could just enter
an empty number and the system would install.
That was still not corrected with Windows 98.
When it is so easy to install
an operating system,
it helps to get of market shares.

People do not play games because they have crap face and people do not play because they cant socialize.
I know gamers who are handsome/cute and others who are not. I know gamers who are freaks and others are very sociable people with no nerdness.
