    Now days the dod drills a hole through the platter on drives that are bad that have to be RMA'd and have contracts so all they have to return is the top of the drive with the label. as for drives they no longer need i do not know. im guessing they write 0 and 1 patterns on the drive 7+ times. (even then data recovery services could recover it)

    That is mostly true but not completly. In some cases OEM's will install the exact software you want but you have to be a large Corporation and you must be able to Sign a contract saying "if this product does not work then you will not call into tech support for support" but then again most large corporate clients don't call in normally unless they have hardware failure or there is something that all of there techs can't figure out.

    What makes you believe that JVC makes it? Most Laptops are made by 3rd partys such as Quanta, Toshiba, and a few others and then people put there names on it.

    The new Imac is even made by Quanta. The name on the machine does not mean they made it.

    nope. they started in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in a barn. They do have a Office in the Kansas City, MO area though.

    Why don't they prove it to us by dropping the price of WinXP, Photoshop, 3DSMax, etc.. for 2 or three months and maybe I'll pick up some much needed software I normally couldn't afford

    Most Software does have a Price that is cheaper. Student License.
    If you are using Photoshop for your company then you should pay the whole amount, as the same with 3DSMax, Lightwave, Autocad,Visual Studio, etc. They put a good amount of effort into making those programs work great for Designers they do not give much thought about the normal user because of the price that they sell it at.

    Just my own thoughts.

    Doesn't have to be too Large. Maybe 500 megs at best. Without a keyboard you might only have a select amount of web sites you can view such as CNN, MSNBC, theregister, etc. Every few days you might come around and upload the new cache and to some people they wont notice that they are viewing cache only.

    And as we all know. IDE drives work great in high bandwidth vector based computers with over 1000 nodes needing a storage solution that is able to deliver a massive throughput.

    There is a reason why you might need 80 GB/sec and its not for mp3's.

    Can't use Win98 or WinME ? Funny I thought that is why they(m$) created WDM so that drivers would work on 9x/ME/2k/XP. Hell i've even seen non WDM drivers written for 9x work on ME.

    it seems as though no one has read the XP EULA and the nonsense of all the comments. let me post excerts from it. No where Does it mentions anything about Remote Assistance and that you can not use VNC and it says that if you use Netmeeting, et al, you can use the other persons Word in the session.

    Ah but you forget you can not use commercial software and in order to keep your ideas without them able to use it you must not use any GPL. If you do then your software is then under the GPL license and they can use it however they want.

    Microsoft has never given you this option. Even if it said it let you it doesn't really work. Nothing is new with that.

    Every software from microsoft contained a EULA which gives you the ability to use the software but they are not liable for any software errors.
