You're kidding, right? You would just hate to waste that prescious 5 minutes for the guy to fill up your car for you when you're on at least a 6 hour trip? Gee, on that kind of schedule, I'd hate to see you get stuck in Portland traffic, or maybe some of the never ending road construction on I-5.
From what I've seen of Oregon gas stations, time is saved because they give you a ticket to run in and pay as soon as the gas is filled. Plus while fuel is being pumped you can run in and refresh yourself with a nice beverage or perhaps a twinky.
Seriously, how much more expensive is Oregon gas than Washington or California? It's diddly crap. The fact is that the gas station owners WON'T pass the labor savings on to the consumer, but will instead pocket the extra money. This holds true for most industries, unless there is really stiff competition (which is questionable with gas stations).
What really doesn't make sense to me, is why you're comparing 167 cars to 1 truck/suv. Looks like all 167 cars are going to be paying tax here. It's not like all 167 cars are going to pay the tax for 1 car. 1 suv is paying tax for 1 suv, and 1 car pays tax for 1 car. I understand that the car pays less tax, and I'm aware that the tax/damage ratio is not perfect, but I'm sure that it's pretty darn close.
Who is the jerk moderator who made this comment flamebait? He simply made a point and then gave an example of a really frivilous lawsuit? If I had mod points, I would mod this dude back up. I mean it's no +5, but why should he get modded down? What crap!
The scene I was talking about was COMPLETE CGI. I'm not talking about taking little bits and using CGI. Guess what? In Forrest Gump, the actor still had to ACT like he had no legs. They didn't completely replace him like they replaced Keanu in Matrix Reloaded.
Is anyone sick of hearing of Lord of the Rings... Does anyone care that CGI is taking over film, and that nobody is putting effort into special effects anymore? Why I remember back in the day, when it used to be really cool to see stuff, even if it looked a little fake, that was done. Now it's like, "That's too much effort, lets toss some CGI in there for this scene." Same with the Matrix Reloaded, the fight scene with Neo and the Agent Smiths. Obviously they thought that the first movie was cool with the spinny effects (which it was) so they'd better put more spinny effects in there. Only we want to do it really cool without spending a lot of money, so lets just replace the entire scene, actors, backgrounds, etc with computer animation and solve the ingeneuity problem. Yes ingeneuity, figuring out how to make a scene come to life with real people. Something that movies these days are starting to seriously lack.
I think that this show IS totally revelant to Slashdot. It comprises a genre, which totally appeals to nerds. It's so different for the kind of shows that we usually watch. Usually we are watching Space-Based sci fi, like Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, etc. But here is a down to Earth show that takes place on Earth. It's the classic Vampire horror, reborn into a modern reality. (Not to mention the hot girls!) It has everything that appeals to geeks.
People don't seem to realize that we didn't actually evolve from chimps, but we actually are related in the way that we split off in the evolutionary timeline from the same predecessor. Why not put them in the same Genus as us? They've had just as much time to evolve.
What do you mean you can't find those features? They are right on the main toolbar. Opt-mod is the coolest thing to come to web browsers since sliced bread, and left-scrolling is the latest addition to the gestures. It's pretty damn cool, but I wouldn't have gotten as excited at westyvw...
Call me flamebait, call me a troll, mod me way down...
But I gotta say, what is it with the attitude of people that drive large trucks? Now I'm not saying that all people with full size trucks are like this, but notice how this guy has to state how large his truck is. Notice how he thinks that a new product is a threat to what he has and how he has to crush this new small product. I think that he sees it as a threat to the one thing that he has, that is bigger and better (and longer?) than what other people have. Without it, I think that he feels he would have nothing to make up for his other inadequacies.
Besides, I don't see this as a threat to large vehicles. I think that electric motors and other ways to power vehicles will simply replace the gasoline engine in trucks, vans and SUVs, and make them clean running vehicles. Since one major complaint of large vechiles is that they pollute, this sounds like a score for people who enjoy them, becuase it's one less thing that they'll have to worry about.
Also, electric motors have GOBs and GOBs of torque. They seem that they would be a plus to dualie trucks that need the horsepower to pull large loads.
Check out how Honda is making a high-performance car with the help of electric motors:

The reason these cars don't perform so well is because they are still young. Combustion engines are well over 100 years old. Electric cars are just starting to catch on. Think back to the earlier cars, and how they had cars with V8's and most of todays 4 cylinder POS econo-boxes can out perform them. Just give it time. You gotta get a start somewhere...
Yeah sorry I didn't see your sig, so I guess I was right to argue against you.
When I use the word queer, I obviously use it in a more mature way than you do. Because I'm pretty sure that for many, many years queer just meant strange. In fact it still means that. Just because a few people use it as a deraugatory[sp?] word, doesn't mean that I do.
How much oil is in our water supply? Obviously enough that the county government where I live is sending out pamphlets telling people to please wash thier cars somewhere other than the driveway. How many people do you know, actually want to pull thier car onto the lawn to wash it? NOT MANY.
Leftists and Christians, what the fuck is that? Last time I checked there were quite a few Christians that are right-wing as well. Does that make them leftist right-wingers?
And what are you saying about selfishness, that being selfish is okay? No wonder your post got modded down. nobody likes people who only think of themselves.
I guess you're the first person to give up your rights to protect our country in an 'unselfish' way. But to give up your modern conveniences like cars, you're going to fight like hell to keep those so that you can keep your 'individuality.'
Don't start throwing around Gaea like you know what I believe in. What do you believe anyways? You think it's good to drive around in cars? You think that consuming all the crude oil is the way to go? I love cars, in fact, I work on mine all the time, but I would trade it any day for some really good mass transit.
Okay, earth + pollution == destroyed earth. When everything is dead, and earth is a big hunk of rock, it's not really much for Earth now is it? Good idea to take your quotes from a comedian. As much as I think Geroge Carlin is kick-ass, HES A COMEDIAN!! HE'S JOKING!!
Well whatever, I'm not wasting any more time on this, I have more of a life than to analyze a -1 post. (Or do I?)
"Oh, and the 'it harms the environment' argument... is superstitious garbage."
Man, if this is your sig, then I'm really sorry for saying this, but you're an idiot. It looks like you're saying cars don't harm the environment. Cars do harm the environment, and they do pollute. In big cities like Los Angeles, you're lucky if you can see the hills 1/4 mile away from you. The smog is so thick on some days everything is grey, almost like an overcast day. I don't live in LA, but the few times I've visited, it sure made me glad that I live in Washington.
Also, the oil that leaks out of your car in the driveway, and all the grease and road grime that comes off when you wash your car, all leaks down onto your driveway. From your driveway, when it rains, it goes into the street, then into the gutters, which goes into the sewers, and into nearby lakes, rivers and streams. Now, call me queer, but I'm pretty sure that oil is bad in the water supply.
I would pretty much say, yeah, that cars do indeed pollute.
And since all leftists are just Star Trek watching, socialist, college students, I wouldn't worry about what they have to say. Because it seems that the majority of people right now, are right-wing, SUV driving, Friends-watching, people who once were in college, and aren't going to give up thier selfish, wanna-have-invididualism even though its going to destroy the planet for everyone, ways.
Wow, okay there... Did you read the comment I was replying to? I was just trying to point out what an asshole the guy was for calling some guy an ignorant Canadian for not knowing about the US $2 bill. Big fucking deal, why don't you go write a book?
Okay, Firebird is such a generic name. When are people going to just get with some common sense and realize that with a limited number of words in any language, some stuff is going to get reused. Especially things that are common, like Fire and Bird. When are people just going to get over it and realize that trademarks can be as bad as patents and copyright?
In 1975 the Canadian dollar was worth the same as the US dollar. And before that, it was worth as much as 2X. Since the appearance of the US dollar hasn't changed much since then. I seriously doubt that it has anything to do with value.
Also, Canadian money will be exchanged at any place where you can exchange American money. Canadians probably use ATM machines when travelling, or even travellers cheques so that they don't have to worry about exchanging money.
Typical of an uneducated American to take cash with them when travelling out of the country. Canadians also aren't ignorant when they travel, and try to fit in by at least trying to speak the language, and carry the currency of the country that they are in.
I thought that the RIAA did this themselves. They put up copies of fake songs that are loops. I'm sure that they would love to have someone help them out.
Oh so you think. Who's pockets do you think get lined to pass laws like the one that extends copyright indefinitely? Or how about the DMCA? Or how about the CDBPTA, or DPCPTA or whatever it's called? I'm sure that there were plenty of lobbyists in the government, and plenty of politicans that are former or still are CEOs or VPs. The problem today is that he who has the most money, can get into office, and pay lobbyists enough money, and run the biggest campaigns to get whatever they want done.
I live very close to the really big, high tension power lines. I don't fear them at all, but someone told me one day about holding a flourescent light up under them at night and watch it light up. I thought, yeah right! So one night, I went out with a big long tube light, and sure as hell, it lit up. It was so blowing my mind. It doesn't light up really bright, but it lights up none the less. I haven't tried it with an incandescent bulb, but I don't think they are supposed to work.
Apple was playing catch up too. From what I hear, Amigas had an excellent GUI, and far superior hardware to what Apple ever could offer. Amiga had innovative features such as a Color Screen, Stereo Sound, and 3d Graphics Capabilities. While Macs still had tiny monochrome displays, and the Wild Eep.
Last I checked, that wasn't a Windows XP feature, I seem to remember that I was able to do that with the very first Linux distro I ever used, RedHat 5.2. But you know what, I don't think that it was even a feature of Linux. I'm sure that most flavors of unix have been doing this for YEARS.
