So first off as you can see by the numbers... you're wrong(Microns stock is actually worth more than it was a year ago)... second if you adjust for the split on the Second of May (2:1) you can see that the stock has in fact more than doubled. And that is a pretty rosy return on investment.

This is kind of late so maybe won't even be looked at...but I'm wondering if it's possible for one to install say the SETI@Home client, Parabon client, Popular Power Client as well as that Climate dynamics (for the global warming research) client at the same time or would they conflict with each other in deciding who to use what cycle when? Just curious(because I can't decide what to do like many others)

  5. Life in the Present Day on The Digital Revolution - Living up to the Hype? · · Score: 1

Though I don't debate the fact the the last century has given us many advances that have tremendously increased our standard of living. How can we really compare to running water, electricity and such things like much better medical care? But then again I argue that the reason we see how much the industrial revolution did for our lives is because we can look back to the past. Hindsight is 20/20... but how good is foresight? I mean we don't yet know how the technology of today will be looked at as indispensable in the new century.

I find the internet almost indispensable now a days... I love the fact I can send an email to someone across the world almost instantaneously(at least compared to traditional snail mail) As well as doing online banking and shopping... and of course world news and such great discussion forums as /.

Pretty soon the Human genome project will be done and who knows what life saving information can be gleaned from our DNA... with advances in Biotechnology, and nanotechnology... we can't really even begin to imagine what will be coming in the next few decades let alone the rest of the century. Some people believe we are only at the doorstep of the so called digital revolution. I believe it's hard to say therefore whether this digital revolution will be as dramatic as that of the industrial revolution. Hey we may live in a Star Trek type universe sometime soon where we can just zap our way to another part of the world in a blink of an eye and a computer assembles our parts...

In truth though from my point of view it seems like an evolution more than a revolution we build on the ideas that have come before us... and just improve them, but when we look back after a long period of time we think of it as a revolution.

You think that keeping a child away from his father is constitutional? What right does the American government have to keep that child from the only parent he has left?! The only reason I can see is if the parent was abusive or something but that has not been shown, in fact Juan Gonzalez seems like a perfectly good father.

Yes I understand the US gov't still has an embargo on Cuba from the days of the Red scare... this really seems to be more of a political issue and the childs wishes don't seem to matter. From what I've seen of the newscasts the boy hasn't seen his father in 5 months... the only parent he has left... and from the pictures taken right after the "capture" he seems very happy to be reunited with him.

The reason for the military style raid was fear that doing it any other way might be more harmful to either the family, the public, or others involved. (ie there was a fear of guns within the crowd and most likely rioting) The whole ordeal took about 3 minutes.

My opinion of the whole matter is that it is ridiculous for the family in Miami to insist on Elian to stay in America when he still has a father who lives. (Isn't there some sort of international law regarding this?! Of course I know the US only obeys international laws when it is convienient for them... like paying UN dues they owe) And the whole fact that he may be the coming of the messiah... well religion is something that is not my strong point. Let the boy go back to Cuba and just stop this whole mess. Are Americans so arrogant as to think their society is the best and the America is the place everyone wants to live?!

And yes this whole thread is completely OT.
