I actually just finished that one. I didn't want to say anything about it, since I was bound to say something stupid about it since I just finished it.:)
Fans of Daniel Quinn should take note that this very idea has been around in both Ishmael and The Story of B. Our educational system isn't designed for learning, per se, but to train kids to be proper working adults, and to make sure they know how life "really works" in our culture.
There are always exceptions to the rule -- you will always find a teacher willing to go the extra mile, or a student who rises far above the rest. Mediocrity reigns in the American public school system, and it isn't going to change any time soon.

Fix part A before coming to conclusion B. After dealing with lilo and grub issues this past week, I was reminded why my Xandros installation isn't as desktop friendly as I'd like it to be. FreeBSD is still on my servers, Mac OS X is still on my laptop. Soon, perhaps.
That's really odd. I would complain to the parent company, because that's asinine. In the US, you just head to their web site, fill out a web form explaining what's up, and it generates an RMA and shipping form to get everything taken care of.:(
This is so great. I happily pay the premium every time for Seagate drives over anyone else. I've had two fail since I've started buying them, and they were taken care of with cross shipping, no questions asked. Great customer service, incredibly quiet drives, and very easy to deal with.
Ugh, I sound like an eBay response. A+++ DRIVE MANUFACTURER WOULD BUY FROM AGAIN.
Either way, that's great. One more reason to buy Seagate drives, as if I needed another one.
The Forfour is coming here shortly, because they feel Americans would like a 'small SUV' rather than the small car. Based on the success on that model, they plan to bring out a few more.

I would say quite a few have different types of apps open, whether code, rendering, or video. The OS tends to lend itself to many different types of tasks. For instance, when working in Final Cut Pro, you tend to have a screen full of video crap. It'd nice to be able to Command-Option-Rightarrow to your mail and web browser. *shrug*
Also, it's generally accepted to call them a 'Mac'. MAC would be used in cases like 'MAC Address'.:)
It is there, it's an addon pack to the CommuniGate server. Completely replaces all Calendar, Contact, etc functions of Exchange, and the clients see it as an Exchange server.
Agreed. There are quite a few things that tick me off about CommuniGate, but it has handled things SO well in the past, on average, that I can't help but plug it. It works on many platforms, handles thousands of domains with many accounts without hiccuping, and offers clustering support as your mail needs change.
Also, you probably shouldn't be hosting web sites off of CommuniGate, IMHO. It's a neat feature, handy for small workgroups, but once you move up -- ditch the web site functionality.:)
It is rather depressing, though, that they've taken BeOS and beat the interface repeatedly with the ugly stick. The yellow doesn't have to be that bright, seriously. I know the NewOS look was there before, and they kept the neat checkboxes and comboboxes... but took the window decorations to a new level of fugly.
Not to mention, the whole thing looks like a mismanaged linux distro now.
I'm curious where you see that Apple is 'clearly' not giving back. Looking at CVS for Konqueror, and quite a few FreeBSD tools, and you see Apple making their mark. Not to mention Apple's Public Source site where/all/ of Darwin is there, Streaming software tools, ZeroConf changes, and more are open to the public.
Thank you so much. It irks me when people scream "PHP is faster" when if you know how to set up a perl web server, Perl is the same speed, if not faster.
Perl and PHP are about even on unreadable code. I can read other developers' perl code where I'm employed, and it's about the same syntax and layout in PHP.
After looking at your link on my PowerBook, I'm going to have to say that it doesn't look 'so much better'. The jagged edges, kludgy dock, and the silly gnome menu bar.. no thanks. I'd rather have my laptop that works, has plenty of software AND your GPL stuff.

When did this happen? I certainly heard one study, but compared to 30 others, it's meaningless.
:\
Also, the Linux numbers count servers. So your argument still doesn't work.
Napster sneaks in? Hate to break it to you, but Napster has marketing deals and partnerships, and is still FAR behind Apple.
It's not. But the author implies that Linux is ready for the desktop, but it appears to only be ready for desktops premade for Linux.
Which, in the mainstream market, now equals one.
I'm confused.

I've owned a couple of Nomads, a couple Rio's, tried the Karma, and used the Dell DJ.

In the end, how you feel is all that matters. The UI is better for /me/, so /I/ buy the iPod.
"Apple's track record in that field as of late hasn't been too great either."
Yeah, because that one security flaw sure was a bitch.
CommuniGate Pro.
And just like many other open source apps, doesn't really outdo anyone, so no one seems to care. ;)

Hello, anonymous! Where the hell do you get 'bloated' from?

Oh well. Long live Be.
Interesting Mac Fanatic that still hasn't moved to OS X. You are aware that it came out years ago, yes?

Clear as mud, yo.

OS X on my desktop, FreeBSD on my servers.
