As someone who's lived in Beijing for 5 years, it's not all that heroic. There are millions of people posting things, and they just get deleted wack-a-mole style if the content is not "harmonious". The only people that get arrested are serious critics of the government who get a lot of exposure. The average middle class person in Beijing is definitely more informed about a lot of things that your average American Fox viewer. Anyway they don't care too much about the smaller upper and middle classes - the firewall and the scare tactics are mainly targeted at the masses.

You shouldn't count people who willingly get censored material from a skewed point of view.

When my father signed the loan for his house after ours burnt down he had no clue what was up this is because he had a massive stroke and my retarded aunt took him to sign it. I know he had to sign his name around 20x or so. The bank had no problem letting a guy with good credit and 20k down sign without fully understanding what he was doing. When your told you can buy a house for as much or less as renting one you'd jump at it. A couple years down the line all of a sudden your interest rates go through the roof and your paying an extra $150 then winter hits and you get gouged with sky rocketing natural gas prices and your on a fixed income your kinda fucked. I think banks should be required to have fixed interest loans. to stop that kinda BS.

I got to wonder why people are so greedy. You can get a nice house in a good neighborhood and a decent car and have a wife and few kids just on 40,000 a year. If you go with just saving and buying a used car and shopping at walmart hell you could make buy on 25000 with cash to spare.
