I've always explained it to myself by thinking that the machines could grow some sort of bacteria or lichen. Either one that could thrive on the low solar energy received through the atmosphere, or some sort of thermovore or radiation eating bug.
Consider you glasses like a crutch. If you rely on them, you'll never walk properly.
If you are prescribed 100% prescription glasses, and wear them all the time, then unsurprisingly, your eyes get used to the help that the glasses give you. So at your next-check up, your eyes are weaker.. So you get prescribed stronger glasses, which you wear all the time, and bam! your eyes get even weaker.
This is the main reason people tend to end up getting stronger and stronger glasses as they age.
If you can't find one of these new-fangled "behavourial optomitrists", then a) wear your glasses ONLY when you need them b) get 80% strength of the full prescription.
Yup. I'm a long-sightee who has dispensed with glasses over a period of time.
Basically the idea is that your crystaline lens in your eye is stretched and compressed by muscles. You can train those muscles and therefore improve you accomodation. You still have the eye shape defect, but you can deal with it.
what about American sponsored attempts to kill Saddam? what about American bombing and destruction of Iraqi buildings / homes/ military bases / whatever else gets in the way?
For those of us who are real night owls, and those who are so much night owls that they qualify as sleep disorders, flex time is a fantastic blesssing.
In fact, I sometimes end up working flex time at places that do not offically support it.
Insomniacs, delayed and advanced sleepers of the world unitie! Why should we be persecuted for our biology!!
Depends on your definition of advanced AI. Advanced route-planning algoritms? "learning" programs? Neural-net type brains? A memory? Emotions? Eat/sleep/fuck drives?
The machines are obviously smarter than us, and are keeping the date of their conception ten years ahead. They are laughing at all us poor AI researchers
It was in Bletchley Park! Chosen, during the war, to be the most inconspicious and sleepy place in the whole of middle England. I wouldn't exactly say the machine was guarded. Nobody thought anyone would steal it anyway.

Then they feed the biomass to the humans.

When buying parts for to build a computer I stick the the hundred quid rule..
£100 quid (or nearish) for each component. (processor, MB, etc)
it normally works out as a pretty good machine
oh come on!
what about American sponsored attempts to kill Saddam?
what about American bombing and destruction of Iraqi buildings / homes/ military bases / whatever else gets in the way?
silly.

What about cannibalising an old sparc IPX or LX box for the power supply and case only?
yes!
er.
1) In your opinion does AI exist already?
