I notice a lot of good replies go without moderation or a reply. The one exception is if you subscribe and can get out a coherent first post--you'll get both. What I haven't noticed is any posts that mention the Singularity, unless it's a really obvious connection. If I do, I'll be sure to reply or at least moderate (I think if I log off I can leave an anonymous comment without removing the mod).
I think you are intelligent, by your use of "/dev/null". You are also signalling your intelligence. Others who understand this are probably intelligent as well (those who replied for example).
Is it generally easier for the human animal to focus on external issues than internal ones? One is more liable to blame "cheaters" (perhaps with reason) than to note how getting drunk and playing video games was more tempting than polishing up the application (for example).
I think it will be more clear post-singularity, where you can see that a single individual has much more capability than anybody and everybody before.
I haven't heard about john doe making $10,000,00 on a cigarette lighter app. I do, however, hear a lot of people trying to be clever by first assuming that we've all heard of something like that. Despite showing polish and usability, some apps are selling well.
I'm guessing all 4 came from people working in IT. Probably self-taught, but possible with a degree (which would have to be Computer Science). Something about computer programming, with its potential for nearly limitless individual accomplishment, puts the brain in an interesting state. Maybe a future simulation will show why people who gleefully apply O notation and contribute useful information where abstract software is concerned end up being disruptive in other scientific subject. Interest without ability leads to irrelevant jokes.
I've never heard an analysis of effects on humans. Bullets are good a disrupting tissue, often causing death. A laser might deliver a cauterized burn, or blindness if in the right spot.
Really doubt that. Using unpowered exercise equipment well tell you the power you are generating--it's usually at least 600 calories an hour for a moderate to low amount of exercise.
Slashdot is a for-profit website. They make money from advertisements and subscriptions. If you bought the company, you'd be able to remove articles like this easily. As it is, this is a posted article and will stay that way. Turns out, you can also comment on why it shouldn't be posted (you seem to have figured this out)--this does not require buying Slashdot.
Sorry if that disturbs your view of what Slashdot should be. Better save up before something like this gets posted again.
From a faked board to rumors about really bad yields, nVidia won't show up until next year. Sure, it'll probably be faster, but they clearly had to sacrifice something to focus on high-end computing with features like ECC and double-precision. My 4890 is serving me pretty well for now.
Most people reading and posting on Slashdot will cheer on technology. However, some will want to overcompensate the other way to appear different and clever. Keep it in mind.
Thanks--that's interesting. It's a much healthier view than the racism we see with regards to foreign technical people. Just get better, people--don't be bitter.
Actually, only the less capable tech grads think that. Turns out, it's easier to blame external factors (sometimes inaccurately) than to accept that you aren't that good at what you've chosen to do.
Hope I don't get moderated off-topic for replying, but the Singularity will solve most of our problems--except perhaps the lightspeed issue. There is no free energy, but it would be plentiful to a singularitarian. Moving away from biology takes care of viruses, cancer, and self-immune diseases.
I found a bluetooth headset that does mono A2DP (bluetooth audio streaming) and enjoy listening to podcasts while doing whatever. I'd have no problems keeping this on as well.
Nerds in mom's basement might be females playing female WoW characters. Sorry, totally interrupted the meme and narrative.
The box office is up for the year. If sports are up too, this is all bad news for nerds!

I've been waiting a long long time for standardization of integer types.

I got the Kingston v-series 64M for around $120--I think it's only rated around 100MB. Still feels a lot faster, especially after boot-up.
Even though you appear to be on the side of people who value truth, I think in this case you are correct.

Both readers and posters will tend to have a high IQ. There will be jokes and denials, but this statement is likely true.
1. You're smart. 2. It has helped, not hindered you. 3. Those people are not as smart as you.
I'm guessing it's the "Abble" references. Is there even a reason to use "Safary"???
