Kinda interesting application of statistics for the social science (if there is such a thing) to the intertubes. If I was to guess, probably some type of hierarchical linear modeling with dates and locations as factors. Easy schmeezy, but interesting none-the-less.
And by "simple code to extract dates and locations", I'm sure they meant regex.
For anonymous sites, Nginx + php-fpm + APC + Memcache + Boost is an incredibly efficient way of setting up sites. Combine that with a multisite and you can host many sites on a budget VPS (I'm using Linode) and still get great pageload times because its all coming from cache, and if it needs to regenerate the cache it has plenty of power available with idle php-fpm workers + APC.
memcache is a memory object caching daemon, mainly aiming to lower *database* load. it does so by caching the result of repeating queries in memory.
If you're running an anonymous site on Drupal (ie. no user login) AND using boost, memcache is not necessary because you're not making (or shouldn't be making) any database queries. Boost caches it all.
Simmer down now, I saw Apple rise from the dead, although Steve Jobs was there saying, "I"m not quite dead yet" the entire time. Maybe that's what Jesus was saying the entire time he was in his tomb. I digress.
Oh, right, make a perfectly reasonable statement that it could have been someone other than the police and be accused of being a conspiracy theorist. Your "who-the-fuck-would-post-pictures-and-home-addresses-of-some-individual-to-get-some-cops-in-trouble" argument is worse than my statement that it could have been anyone other than the police. Hope you're never on any jury of mine, AC.
It (the flyer) was spotted by multiple people, including the couple, when it was taped to a podium outside a public hearing room in the 30th Precinct house last Thursday, where residents met for precinct council meeting.
It could have been anyone to post the flyer, including the couple themselves.
If lol was used historically on usenet, and Google owns Usenet, then couldn't Google claim ownership of it? Interestingly, AOL tried to trademarke LOL in 2003 but never filed a use statement...
I work for a small-ish 100-person "web consulting" firm. About 6 months ago we opened an office in Philadelphia that I manage and I thought it would be funnier than hell to steal the owner's Bob's Big Boy statue (which lived in the break room) and take it up to the new office. So late one night, after a company-wide happy hour and a few drinks, I grabbed one of the janitors and had him help me carry it to my car. I left notes behind (eg. "After 10 years of living in this break room, I decided to explore the world and sow my wild oats. Goodbye company"), posted pictures in the break room of Bob in random places (eg. LOVE statue, Rocky statue, Italian market, etc), and generally teased the company's owner about the loss of Bob. Soon enough the owner found out it was our office, and while he was upset at first, the camaraderie it brought to the organization as a whole more than outweighed any concerns he had.
The statue still sits in the Philly office, and is still quite the conversation topic.:)

You should be in marketing.

I recommend using Varnish over Boost.

The scientific study ... took over twenty years of research to finally come up with definitive answers to everything.
Talk about publish or perish, no wonder fundies are so underrepresented in academia.

Never attribute to stupidity that which is adequately explained by corporate greed.
There, fixed.

He's probably the only one on staff not celebrating 4-20.
The Hunters claimed that "Michael Cohen" had developed a Goldman Sachs trading algorithm that reaped billions in profits.

I think you mean November 6?
Today we're doing both, for everyone who's old enough for a Google Account.
So does this mean anyone younger than 13 can't have an Android phone?
