The Nomad Jukebox does this. But I can't figure for the life of me why they don't have an optical input on the thing. Then it would be perfect.

Even that, while I disagree with it, might make a tiny bit of sense.

What I'm complaining about it the fact that the "extra" modding features don't seem to be working. I've admittedly only tried it in this particular case, but it doesn't work, and it pisses me off.

Not only do they send you an email, they send a message to the TiVo itself. I got one of these recently, and thought it was great because not everyone has an email account. The message told you to go look at the change on the web, or call a number and they'd send it to you. Pretty cool. And you're right -- you can't say that about many companies.

I realize there are more uses than networks, but ABC seems to be the only one that cares of the big 4. CBS, NBC, and FOX seem to be squatted upon.

Maybe this will change now... hopefully not.

  16. [OT] Woz on TV on Woz's New Startup · · Score: 1

Did anyone see the special on hacking that was on Discovery channel (I think -- my TiVo grabbed it) a couple weeks ago? Woz was on there, along with Mitnick and a few others. They were talking about "hacking" and its roots. They even had a re-enactment of the FBI nabbing Mitnick.

if people can already find the most relevant results on Google, what are the chances anyone's gonna use this service?

I'd say they're pretty good. I love google, and use it exclusively. But even if Google gives you "relevant" results, there may be things on the Yahoo index that a crawler may not be able to access. And even though it's very good, it's still only a crawler -- I get the impression that Yahoo is using humans to do this.

I know that when I was in college, starting a research paper 8 hours before it was due, I would have gladly paid their quoted $1-4 per "premium" document rather than having to sift through crap to find what I wanted.

I think a certain number of typos in a book that I pay for should allow me to receive a refund.
