I don't have any stats to quote yet, but most of the time you read about a court case involving sexual abuse or abduction, it is a parent or trusted adult who is the culprit. THAT is the real tragedy.
Yeah. The low power ones in your car transmit maybe 10 feet. You want it from any radio? Through walls? I'm sure the FCC would have absolutely no problem with that.
Even that, while I disagree with it, might make a tiny bit of sense.
What I'm complaining about it the fact that the "extra" modding features don't seem to be working. I've admittedly only tried it in this particular case, but it doesn't work, and it pisses me off.
Not only do they send you an email, they send a message to the TiVo itself. I got one of these recently, and thought it was great because not everyone has an email account. The message told you to go look at the change on the web, or call a number and they'd send it to you. Pretty cool. And you're right -- you can't say that about many companies.
I can think of only about 5 ways Taco could fix those damn page-widening posts. He hasn't done a single one yet. I love trolls as much as the next guy, but this ruins it and makes me browse at 0. Fight back! Manual page breaks in all posts, now!
I remember hearing not too long ago about how big the.tv domain would be and how everyone would be in a knock down drag out fight for the domains. Funny how you don't hear of them.
I realize there are more uses than networks, but ABC seems to be the only one that cares of the big 4. CBS, NBC, and FOX seem to be squatted upon.
Did anyone see the special on hacking that was on Discovery channel (I think -- my TiVo grabbed it) a couple weeks ago? Woz was on there, along with Mitnick and a few others. They were talking about "hacking" and its roots. They even had a re-enactment of the FBI nabbing Mitnick.
Based on looks alone, I don't think I'd want these guys near children.
if people can already find the most relevant results on Google, what are the chances anyone's gonna use this service?
I'd say they're pretty good. I love google, and use it exclusively. But even if Google gives you "relevant" results, there may be things on the Yahoo index that a crawler may not be able to access. And even though it's very good, it's still only a crawler -- I get the impression that Yahoo is using humans to do this.
I know that when I was in college, starting a research paper 8 hours before it was due, I would have gladly paid their quoted $1-4 per "premium" document rather than having to sift through crap to find what I wanted.
I think a certain number of typos in a book that I pay for should allow me to receive a refund. Particularly in a technical manual, when you are trying to learn something, typos can really lead you down the wrong path. Especially with the number of readers that would be willing to proofread for free prior to the book being published, there is no excuse.
I guess that one hit post. Almost though. Thanks for the kind words, and thoughtful haiku. I'd better start whoring again, or I won't see mod points for a while.
I honestly didn't look at ReplayTV when I was shopping for my TiVo. I only know a few of the differences from hanging around the TiVo forum. The TiVo seems to have a larger user base and more hackability (even though I haven't upgraded it yet).
What are some of the "better" features of the ReplayTV?
Has anyone actually seen an LCD with good quality? Admittedly the ones I've seen were in stores, maybe sucky ones hooked up to sucky displays, but they all looked like crap. It reminded me of my first.39 dot pitch monitor.
And I suppose it's real easy for your girlfriend to go in and write her own cronjob to record Martha Stewart Living?
I'll keep my TiVo, thanks.

Here ya go.
Yet Another Retinal Projection Story...
Nothin but vapor to see here, folks.
I'd personally rather have the option of recording to PCM/WAV
The Nomad Jukebox does this. But I can't figure for the life of me why they don't have an optical input on the thing. Then it would be perfect.

couldn't resist
the part I find disturbing
Shut up. You said yourself that it's members only. They know exactly what they're getting into. The cameras aren't on street corners.
Even that, while I disagree with it, might make a tiny bit of sense.

I tried that too, and it didn't work. I even modded foes' posts down -4. They still show up. Can anyone explain?
He didn't say server. He said system. That counts desktop systems.
Thanks for playing.

I love trolls as much as the next guy, but this ruins it and makes me browse at 0.
Fight back!
Manual page breaks in all posts, now!
These already exist. Learn to use a search engine, for Christ's sake.
When ripping MP3's under Slacware 8.0 on the Athlon, the best rate I could get was 3x. The little iMac up starts clocked almost 5x.
Just remember one thing:
1) It's the CD-ROM drive that matters. I can rip at 12x on my AMD K6/2-500.

Maybe this will change now... hopefully not.

Web hosting? If you're just putting up photos of your dog there are free hosting sites.
That depends on what your dog is doing in those pictures. I'm sure certain things would violate the TOSes of certain providers. =]

A hat trick, and I wasn't even trying...

la TiVo! Cool. I really hope this company survives!
As any techie knows, fixing the problem is far easier said then done
And apparently, so is checking your spelling before posting a story.
