The highest I've seen is the Nucleus system, with 22 electrodes.
There are Behind the ear(BTE) units that look like a hearing aid, instead of using a belt processor, but they only usually store 2 programs instead of four. You use different programs(settings like volume, pitch, etc) in different situations.
There have been very few binaural implants, usually only done when the first implant has problems. This leaves the other ear alone, in case 5 or 10 years from now, someone finds a better solution, and the existing ear has been destroyed by the implant, rendering the new solution useless.
From what I've read, the processor makes more of a difference than the electrode implant itself.
I have a severe binaural hearing loss myself, complete deafness over about 1500 hertz, normal hearing up till around 1100hz, and a steep dropoff in between. Conventional hearing aids don't help me, as the hearing aid mold blocks the lower frequencies, leaving me worse off than before.
I looked into the cochlear implant earlier this year, but from the research I did, I'd be worse off than what I have now.
What I'm looking for is information on the sound quality difference between normal hearing, and current CI technology. I found a page online with sample mp3's, from about a year or two ago, and even with a 32 channel implant, the sound in the mp3's was still horribly distorted and garbled.(it's not the encoding of the mp3's, before you mention that)
Has the processor technology improved?
Having 30db loss across the audiogram is good, but not if the entire spectrum sounds like a badly tuned AM radio.:)
I would hate to go through the implant procedure, and discover I'm worse off than before.
What about when you do like I do, and mail it to your US address? I drive over to Detroit and pick it up from there, and pay the GST/PST at the border if they want to collect it.(which they don't usually do if it's under 100-150 USD)
Even in that case, I've had many refuse to sell to me, even if I fax them a credit card statement with a photocopy of the card and my signature and authorizing them to charge my card.
Tried eDonkey, had problems iwth it taking up _every_ socket available. I couldn't open anything new(like loading up slashdot, etc). Soon as I closed eDonkey, things went back to normal.
Don't know if it's a Win98 issue or what
Even increasing the maximum sockets allowed, didn't help
http://www.securityfocus.com/archive/1/241105 is the link, just looked it up. Was on the 19th, close enough.
And what's with the broken counter on replies on slashdot? It claims it was 14 seconds ago that i replied.. I'm sure i didn't find and type the above paragraph, in a mere 14 seconds.
That's neat, cause my mothers official 99b, keeps getting messages over and over that are sent to her.. if she's sent a message while she is offline, when she goes online, she gets them, everytime she goes online.
in addition, she shows up as offline all the time to other users, unless it's a fresh install of ICq.. so she has to reinstall ICQ everytime she wants to use it
Was run on PBS a few months back.

And opening it up and refilling it with new coolant will draw the wrath of a thousand HP lawyers.
The Eurocom 8880 has the capability for FOUR hard drives at once
8 .c fm
:)
http://www.eurocom.ca/products/showroom/specs88
Has the capability for two cdroms/dvd-roms/etc at once.
15.7" screen as well.
No mention of weight, I suspect you don't wanna know.
Eurocom has always been a little bit ahead of everyone else on getting things out
I believe the TV tuner option replaces one of the media bays though

Agreed, I had a popup come up when I was using Kazaa Lite.. May not be as many popups/spyware as the regular client, but its still there.
measure it, cause it's in the 30 volt range, if i remember right
deltree /y c:\progra~1\netscape\communicator\program\aiml tree /y C:\windows\aim95

in your netlogon script.
works fine for me.
As well, you can lock down the workstations for things such as the users don't have the option to (C)ontinue, when it warns of a virus.
Remote reporting from the clients to the server, the server can force a scan at any time on the clients.
etc
etc
What i like about the Mach3 is how CHEAP it is to use. Yes, cheap. A blade is still reasonably sharp after 3 months of use.
Regular disposables, a few days to a week
At least in my case
I use regular Keytronic keyboards at the office, and a logitech internet keyboard(like the feel, don't use thost stupid buttons)
When I use an ergo split keyboard, my wrists hurt in under 10 minutes. yet, i can go all day on a regular keyboard.
can't figure it out
Where's the one that tells you to flip the light switch off and on a few times?
no rdp 5.1 support
so no sound, and nothing above 8 bit colour.
Well, that's the best time to start planning your retirement. Earlier you start your savings, the more time to compound and grow.
:)
Usuauly, it'd be the parents that plan that though
take a look at http://www.handera.com
240x320 screen, CF and SD slots. Uses palm 3 accessories(read: get keyboards/gps/cradles/etc cheap on ebay)
Collapsable graffiti area, 8 meg ram, accepts up to 1gb Microdrives(sucks up the batteries though)

There WAS a "please contact us at wuftpd so we can co-ordinate", sent out on the 17th, if i got the date right.
This is their way of forcing the bugs to be fixed, is all, yes.
Now, what happens for someone like me, a Canadian, who isn't allowed to link their bank account for sending money to people?
I can no longer use PayPal, without anyone I'm sending money to, upgrading to a Business account.
Nice way to force everyone to upgrade

apt-move could be your friend if you let him into your life!
I um, don't have a SW tree there. In fact, i don't have it on any of the machines i've checked. I'll look when I'm at the office tomorrow
