It tells me that the cost of operating an electric car will be way too high. If it takes that much power to charge these cars the power companies will get even richer.

It is rather like being cheap. There is no limit to how cheap a man can get. Once the mind is on the wrong path that path can lead to infinity. So we have all of these nonsense copyright laws and traditions that have become a plague. Now our government can apply all kinds of tactics while claiming nonsense causes. For example how easy is it to call downloading files economic terrorism? And seizing a business or an org. simply becomes seizing a criminal enterprise.
Think about the end game with this nonsense. We catch a hacker who is broadcasting files all over the net and as our reward we get to put the guy in prison and spend 30K a year of our money as well as a fortune for his trial. Then after we get done abusing our wallets we can go into the streets and proclaim how we certainly won that effort. Taken to its edges think about crime gangs that gun down other gangsters. We can catch a car full of thugs and slap them away for the rest of their lives for millions upon millions of dollars. On the other hand when thugs gun down other thugs we could pat them on the back and make sure they have enough ammo to bag more thugs. That way we might actually win the game.
Music is already suffering because of restrictions. Try getting decent musical scores for tunes written 100 years ago for various instruments. Even though they are free from copyright they are rare and expensive when located.
One day we will have software that can take an audio feed from a vocal and print it out in any clef for any instrument. That ought to send shock waves up their panties.
I once worked in a situation where not only management but complete ownership changes occurred several times in a seven year period. It became somewhat obvious that both ownership and management were somewhat of a triviality as they had very little to do with operating the business.

It is not so different from the menial, agricultural laborers. If we pushed all back across the border workers in the fields pay would probably at least double. It goes further than just jobs as well. Our colleges have costs for tuition that are way out of control. They have deliberately sought out foreign students to swell the ranks of students. If those foreign students were banned colleges would have empty seats and prices would drop to compete for more American students to attend. And then there are things like rent. How much would rents fall if all foreigners were rejected? Our farmers now report that they may not be able to feed all of us anymore. Do you think that sending 25 million illegals back across the border might lower the price of food enough to pay higher wages to the field workers?
Really it comes down to whose economy rises or falls. For the common man life would be better with zero immigration whether legal or illegal.

As early as 1985 I am aware of one company that after interviewing people with a liberal arts diploma simply labeled their file with uneducated and trashed the applications.
