I have ranted for years about cities destroying both people and nations. The first evil is that cities actually send out a message that the rural person is inferior by offering higher wages than tiny towns and villages. The next problem is that education is excessively valued in cities. Sadly, education in itself causes the brain to shift functions away from areas that are vital. We have all seen college and even high school students get goofy when they are forced to study too much. The other side of the coin is that as children are born in cities many can not comply with the regime needed to attain higher levels of education and become the dreaded and violent, chronically unemployed.
Further cities are like a cancer as they physically spread out oozing all kinds of toxins into the more rural environments. Rural environments never ruin cities but cities always destroy rural areas.
Much of this falls squarely upon capitalism as in the beginning businesses deliberately attract throngs of labor and then as the businesses decline they abandon the very people that they have imported into the cities. And like a disease cities have helped spawn such a huge population that we have no way to get rid of the curse that we call cities.
A few decades ago language majors might be asked to develop a language of 100 words that uses no verbs. Student papers were handed to the military to use in war or secret communications projects. In general the students were never informed that their work was being used or evaluated for use. Math students were also given certain math problems with covert operators looking for students that solved the math problems in unique ways. The notion being that unusual methods might have military value. Again, the students never actually new. Many school riots in the Vietnam era had to do with students suspecting their work was being used for war. Secrecy is always wrong.
One characteristic of students is that they are at an age where innocence is a huge problem. If one has a great idea at work or in college get a good lawyer to shelter your name on the patent and on the subsequent products. For example your dear old mom might own the patent and the product line might be owned by a trust fund in a nation that does not honor US inquiries or actions.
What is really needed is the idea that anyone causing harm faces potential disaster. It is not reasonable behavior to shut down a free service without notice. It is up to juries to decide if real harm was done and weigh that against why the shut down was sudden and without notice.
It is not just the east coast that can be punitive in regard to land owners. Squatters can often cost a fortune and take years to evict in many states.
However I don't feel sorry for these landlords getting stuck at all. Many times they are arrogant and terrorize tenants with illegal actions. For example I know one old creep who refused to repair a septic system with the claim that since a tenant lived there the tenant must pay for the work. The guy knew just how to get revenge and paid to get the sewer system fixed and stopped the rent dead cold. It took close to a year to get him evicted and the loss of legal fees and rent was a stunning lesson to that landlord. And in Florida collecting a judgment can be impossible so the tenant knew full well that he had won the battle.
Believe it or not tax increases may limit the spare time activities of many people who contribute to open source projects. Cities and states are all putting on their thinking caps to find or create taxes and fines to help support them in hard times. That may leave those that are employed with a much higher tax burden.
And the fact is that hard times shake things up to a point where a few people will land in better positions. I knew one oldster who happened to have a powerful friend who made him a factory foremen with a $150 a week pay check in 1930. Other people worked really hard for one or two dollars a day. Some even worked for a lot less than that. For example our local lumber mill paid 7 cents per hour before the Great Depression even started. My old friend with his $150 per week could live like a Sultan.
Theatre of the absurd is its own reward. The cast of players not only includes the 45 year old soccer mom who thinks her CD burner is a cup holder but it also includes the tech savvy, working at desks and ruining their health along with management that is so out of touch with current realities that they are dangerous, working in an economy that is so false that it actually hasn't really existed for years in a nation that in itself has become a bad joke.
You can easily perish or burn down your home playing with electrical generation.. Get a qualified electrician to install or inspect before you take any chances at all. Wiring a generator into your mains and having the power company come alive suddenly can kill you. This requires knowledge and equipment.
Providing you get help and do it right many people can live quite well without using power from the grid and you can actually earn money if you generate enough power back to the grid. But this is not a casual thing to play with at all.
Wind and living in a rural area are big aids in power generation. Solar cells and solar hot water heaters are also great aids. In my area solar hot water heaters will give you so much hot water you won't even believe it until you experience it. Today, in south Florida it was 80 degrees F. and at least 30 degrees greater on a roof top. Hot water is the least of our problems here.
I can recall a 16 year old girl who swore she was 19 breaking into my home and moving in. I was 24 at the time. It astounds me that there are actually people who would say I was committing a crime back then as I really was deceived. I married the girl the day she turned 18 by the way. A pair of 38 D cups can really fool a guy.
Child molesters should never be in the justice system to begin with. They are mentally ill and there is no cure for their particular problem. The point being that they should be kept for the rest of their lives in secure mental health facilities and not treated as criminals in any way.
On the other hand people who get all bent out of shape over a weenie waiver or a drunk taking a pee need to be forced to get help as these things should not excite or offend normal people very much.
I am for doing things that work. This registration of sex offenders does very little good at all and it seems to keep people in a more dangerous state of mind as they simply can not get jobs or find places to live outside of prison. The game is sort of loaded against them to the point that they might as well commit crimes as theirs lives are a misery anyway.
As a matter of fact the entire criminal justice system is a failure. Regardless of the crime we need to decide which types of offenders can be set right and which probably can not and apply intense rehabilitation to people who can be helped while keeping others permanently in prison.
And where do they get their money from? There exists a great confusion over exactly what is paid advertising and what is reportage. Frankly i don't expect much good work being done by Microsoft. They have delivered crud on too many occasions.
A huge crushing effect on art and literature is taking place with these idiotic prosecutions. Usually the drawings do not depict children at all. This applies to Japanese cartoon characters in particular as line drawings of cartoon characters never have genital hair as it is a cultural taboo in Japan. That turns into American eyes believing that the character is pre-puberty in age. In reality the cartoons represent adults.
Further suppose that you collect foreign cartoons which many Americans actually do. Buying items in bulk in foreign languages gives one no way to know what is depicted or described and the moment it hits your hand in the mail idiotic police may sweep one up.
Now museums and others must live in terror that a significant artists works just might be seen by some idiot as child pornography and there is a great chilling effect upon legitimate art and artists. We need to make these stupid child porn laws a crime against freedom. They reach out and molest legitimate art, art collectors, investors and even museums.
It is obnoxious for any government to promote "family friendly" anything. Over population is the single, most murderous problem facing humanity. Usually creating a family unit and reproduction are locked hand in hand. Every person, every government, and every religion at this point in time needs to discourage the forming of family units and reproduction. For example people who give birth to children or father children should pay far heavier taxes than single people who choose not to reproduce.
The problem reduces to the existence of the middle man. Back in the day before microphones existed every event of any size required a large band or orchestra. Once the microphone came along a small band could function so that anywhere from three to five musicians could entertain a large crowd. Music at home was normally provided by each family being able to play from sheet music. Next the radio was the stroke of death for music. Employment for professional musicians, once common, became rare. Worse yet all of the monkeys in the middle started wanting a piece of the action. The radio station, the record companies, the TV stations and so called agents began to feed deeply from the pockets of real musicians. Supporting these men in the middle harms music and musicians in a thousand different ways. Rebel actions to kill off these monkeys in the middle are not immoral at all.
The funny thing is that although Christians can recognize Jews and Moslems as a culture we do not in any way admit any validity to their religions. Whether either of these cultures have any legitimate place in the Holy Land is debatable at best. Perhaps if we cleared the area of all Jews and Moslems and kept it as a Christian only area the problem would be solved.
Frankly the Jews have suffered deep wounds which causes them to be a bit off the wall in their attitudes and the Moslems have been contaminated by an absurd right wing branch that has effectively poisoned their faith to a point where it is no longer operative. The Moslems best answer would have been to purge their right wing with a vengence.
I really doubt that consumers were taken in by SUVs. I think people knew exactly what they were buying but thought that their economic future was bright enough to afford obnoxious vehicles.
Where I do feel that people really are deceived is by the idea that the auto industry uses so much labor. Take a peek at 1910 on the Ford line and you will see a factory buzzing with herds of laborers instead of robotic assembly devices etc..
What people need are cars that are easily and cheaply repairable, that last for decades, and cost very little to purchase. The car industry price bloated itself into a very bad position indeed. Produce a high quality car for $3,000 with high technology that can be repaired after a wreck for less than a weeks pay and they might get back on track.
Well, God did create all universes as a binary program but then Microsoft patented all possible combinations of binary code. That leaves us in doubt as to whom is actually running the bits.
Is this sort of like finding a way to make memory expensive again? Yeh, I know P.C. Magazine will soon explain why every home PC needs this technology.
I will say that it seems to me that all businesses and individuals should be required to use one and only one system of accounting and that all business transactions should be visible to any person at all times.
First avoid the stuff found on magazine racks. It is designed to sell products advertised by the magazine. Publishing empires have been based on the nonsense in magazines and most of the supposed tech work is junk.
College texts or textbook like books are another kettle of fish. Although some textbooks are written with some fools hope of earning big bucks there are other authors who are almost priest like in their dedication both to a technology and getting it into the hands of the public. Simply research the author and see if the work is peer reviewed. You will find great information that way.
I distinctly recall a book titled "VooDoo Dos" that was hands down better than a thousand other DOS manuals including all the tips stuffed in the magazines. One fellow, in slight rebellion, who actually knew DOS took the time to really write one heck of a DOS manual. That's the kind of information we all need and should expect when we buy a book.
We live in a world deprived of high quality information. It is rather like buying a copy of PC Magazine and being bombarded by nonsense that is supposedly computer oriented information. The entire rag is nothing more than sales oriented junk. Yet people can not sort out bad information from good information so some of it sticks.
Busting up torrents is one example. Given decent encryption and using anonymous proxy servers one could transmit all kinds of torrents without the ISP having a clue as to what is happening. If any government gets in the way to the extent that people are upset you can bet your last penny that invisible torrents will become really popular. And if that fails to do the job there has been progress on "dark nets" that could do an even better job.
So the real deal is getting great info in the hands of PC users. That is not going to happen with magazines that own their soul to the almighty dollar. Free men will find a way.

No decent pirate will run win 7 as an operating system. I assume that the ones that got it are selling copies to less than able PC users.
