Both try to come up with a model that helps make understanding the universe or God. Then other people look at these models and argue whether the model is correct. Science has a nice way to help ones argument by experimentation, theology is pretty much restricted to using thought experiments and history. So theology can offer testable theories, but (a) they tend to deal with god and (b) it's more of a thought experiment than a physical one. With regards to creationism, Darwin came up with a model called evolution; Catholic theologians came up with a "model" saying that if evolution is true it does not imply God does not exist. So it gives arguable theories something, but only about God and not the physical world.

But since they've laid off a bunch of other people working for accessibilty, it doesn't look all that good. Everyone here on/. knows Scientology is evil. But why did Anonymous do something stupid with a denial of service attack? Now the Scientologists can say Anonymous is a terrorist organization, get rid of all its critics using the PATRIOT act and get some good PR too. The only way Scientology will be defeated is if there is some major internal schism or everyone realizes they're not the nicest religion out there.

The filter notices a new template and blocks it. There are only so many ways you can say you're selling cheap viagra. I highly doubt a spammer can find enough ways to say the same thing so that an email in a certain format is less than the blocking threshold (apparently 1000 emails FTA).
You could play something like Zork or another IF game, I don't think that should kill the battery that badly. And the choices in the summary also seem very basic, crossword puzzles and sudoku, it'd only drain your battery if you are really really bad at it or try to.
I'm no Time Lord, But I don't see how a sonic boom has enough torque to screw in a screw and be safe enough not end up destroying the screw and/or user. Although screwdrivers do lots of other things too, like killing people in a very short radius by stabbing them. If that's all you need in a screwdriver, then you're set then otherwise keep looking for police boxes for a while.
Um LORAN-C just sends a radio signal. It won't really stop another country from using it in their own country (unless you bomb theirs). Also for selective availability, DGPS is a pretty good work around for it.

And since it's so far up North, you have to heat the room in the winter and cool it in the summer. On the contrast, the DGPS site was a couple of racks in a trailer. and 4 6m-ish towers around it. The heating cooling costs are much less and most of the maintanance is just scraping the snow/ice off the towers when it snows:-). Combine this wit the fact that no-one really uses LORAN-C anymore, it's not hard to see why

I'm no expert on this, but couldn't the 4 hour difference be explain by people (men) who only play for a little bit and quit? I would think that there would be less casual women gamers since a woman playing computer games reflects on their "geekiness" more than a man. So there's more attrition among men since the women don't try in the first place? So what would be interesting would be a comparision against hardcore men and hardcore women, and see if there's a difference there.
In the Halifax airport there's a preclearance for crossing the US border. Yes, they still do all of the annoying US border crossing stuff, but they are much much friendlier about it than at other crossings I've been to. Yes, It only really helps if your flying, but it takes so much stress out of flying to the US.

In a further slap, the industry would lose its exemption from federal antitrust restrictions on price fixing and market allocation.
So this sounds like a good thing to come from the bill, but does this mean that Insurance companies are going to pull a lot of new nasty tricks to increase their profit... What tricks exactly would they pull? There's bound to be a loop hole somewhere in the bill...

Clearly God is playing dice. Higgs-boson yep it's a God particle. Dark Matter may be tough to explain, but it's no more a Deus-Ex Machina than much of the rest science.
