Roll back pre 9-11 and they were quite happy for Noraid to raise funds in the US Irish community to help fund the bombing campaigns of the IRA.
Hypocrisy has never been a problem in the US of A. Only have to look at the one eyed Israeli policy to see that.
So hosting companies should vet the content that appears on pages they host? Apart from anything else that may make them liable for the content they don't refuse.
How about postal services choosing not to allow people to post certain items?
Or phone companies cutting off the phone when you say certain words?
Or tollways refusing to let you travel on them because you have a red car (more prone to accidents don't ya know)?
Or airlines choosing not to allow certain ethnic groups to fly as they are an increased risk?
Wouldn't want to live in your world...
Amazed and dumbfounded? Dunno why. The tag line is "news for nerds" not "news for bloodsucking lawmakers".
We may be able to code 6502 in our sleep, but that doesn't mean we know our lower house from our upper house.
But by all accounts we still appear to know more about making law than they do about technology.
Actually I think you will find it pretty much didn't work from the get-go. Robespierre (Maximilien François Marie Isidore de Robespierre to give him his full name) was instrumental in getting laws passed where people could pretty much be executed on a whim.
Reading this post makes me glad I don't live in America. Liking a company because they give you want any decent civilisation gives you by default (health care, retirement) must be awful.
Actually the time when all the smart developers are getting out of M$ is the time you want to be staying in.
They have been saying COBOL is dead for years, and yet last time I looked there are still systems running on it.
You mean just like defending my religion and spreading my religion through violence are the religious equivalents of self defense and defense of a third party?
'Tis a slippery slope you are on...
The funny thing is that these same flag waving right wingers often idolise the US military while completely missing the fact that it is one of the most socialist organisations going, providing free healthcare, education and housing, as well as subsidised shopping and entertainment for employees and their families.
"You have no right to murder anyone who you are not sure is trying to actively murder you or someone you care about."
Unless you are in the armed forces of course. They you have legal sanction to kill whomever you are directed to, within the limits of international law.
So, if I were to encode something that has copyright associated with it, say the lyrics to happy birthday, into my user agent string, I guess that would make any site that I went to liable for copying said copy written material.
Not our will to survive. More our will to accept large human cost in major projects.
Dunno about the US examples cited but the UK railways were created at a cost of people(mostly Irish) per mile, and I know the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme (Australia's Hoover) cost 121 lives.
Having said all that, I think all western governments could do with a healthy cleanout of self serving bureaucrats who do less to ensure safety of the environment/mankind than protect their own jobs.
As a poster "flamebaited" earlier in this thread, Australia, one of the least densely populated places on the planet*, has a varied choice of ISP. I have a fixed line ADSL2+ in Sydney and a mobile 3G service at my inland property which is good enough to stream ABC video.
They have achieved this by forcing the previous monopoly (Telstra) to allow other ISPs to place DSLAMs in their exchanges, or simply on-sell Telstra services after getting them at the wholesale rate.
*Having said that, it is also one of the most urbanised.
Tracking Record ID != number of people
It is a unique id of the tracking record. One to many relationship with an offender. Possible many to many if there was a gathering of priests at a given location.
As a vegetarian....
Actually, you know, I can't think what to write next. But I guess it doesn't matter because my smugness will get all of you going whatever I say next...
Dunno what it is like in the US, but in Australia we have a large overseas student population since they tend to get residency when they complete their courses. Used to apply for just about any course run by any shonky provider but they have tightened it recently.
Not that I am saying it is a bad policy - getting bright people migrating once they have reached working age is actually a pretty smart way to run migration.
As soon as you have someone that both controls the device and the media you have the conditions for a monopoly.
Apple - phone plus iTunes plus apps store
Amazon - Kindle plus Kindle Store
Both are abusing that position.
Not the only reason, but reason enough.
And pretty soon we will have an Idiotcracy
And the state will assassinate anyone who uncovers the fact that the state does not, actually, tell you the truth.

And being forced to sit through even 5 seconds of an ad will stop ME from using the services of YouTube, and probably plenty of others.

That's right. They are too busy sailing the seven seas in search of plunder.

I bet you were the kid that always had a great excuse for not doing your homework.
I meant "whatt" not "want". Pedants: Sorry to spoil the fun.

that'd be "underlords" then
Holy cow. Are you saying that a Texan can legally murder a trespassing graffiti artist?
