And no government is going to want multiple interfaces to the outside world.
Precisely... They want control. And don't conflate standardization with monopolization. There is no such thing as a 'natural' monopoly. All monopolies require protection by force, in other words, obstruction. Let's not forget who the government serves. All the antitrust regulation is a sham. Transportation, energy production and communications are perfect examples
It should have been developed a long time ago. The problem has existed for quite a while. The people with the money and talent have other priorities I guess. And like with good encryption, obstruction is probably the biggest cause of the delay.
You can block most of those for a very dramatic reduction on time wasted, except for fsdn.com, unless you don't care about the the page styling. But yes, Slashdot is a good illustration of the problem. A real 'nerd' site would never do this.
Other than a bit of role reversal the parties have not changed at all. And there is no hope as long as they continue to be rewarded with votes. Any and all change will have to come from the voters.
Then they will do like all the rest and kill those deals off as time goes by, and then those customers will flip back to AT&T/Verizon. Just another merry-go-round.
D'ya suppose Trump'll pardon him?
Eh, he might, but I doubt he really gives a damn.
Technically he wasn't fired :-)
Cheetos!
And 'Flipboard'? Who the hell are they?

What's unfortunate about making sure something is accurate? The former "gatekeepers" weren't that good at it.

Like this one for example...
People should be more careful who they vote for
But I'm going to give the US a pass over the next 4 years.
What makes you think it will get any better after that?
It's the voters that need a reboot. Look at the kinds of people they're electing.
What happens when everyone has an algorithm?
Flash crash
Genius is pain...
Emulation?
Good design? HA! Wait till you hear it
The racket will disperse the crowd. If not that, how about a bucket of prop wash? You'll have to land the thing on top of your house.
The noise will be impressive.

That's just it. Most people aren't against 'this kind of thing'. Not the ones who vote anyway. Over 98% give their full consent every two years.
They know what's going on. And those who vote democrat or republican want more.
So who do we blame?
The voters, of course. They're letting, no, demanding this and more.
Then they will do like all the rest and kill those deals off as time goes by, and then those customers will flip back to AT&T/Verizon. Just another merry-go-round.
I just believe that in this situation, robust is more important than brittle efficiency.
This is a stationary setup. Weight and size shouldn't matter. They should use nickel-iron for longer durability, a hundred years or more.
We need another new browser
Why? The old one works just fine...
