    .... what do u expect?? Do you want them to port all their programs to Linux and market linux, and change their OS to linux or open source all their stuff and file for chapter 14?? Apple is a Company.. not a charity.

    I think as a company, apple is already quite generous, and they did port linux to k68 processors.

    If you think their Darwin project is totally profitable FOR apple then just continue to think so. their Darwin projects also include Quicktime Streaming server and some other stuff which you can port to linux or other platforms.

    Look at Corel who are actually making profit out of linux, I don't see they are really giving much to the linux community too.

    So why there is LinuxPPC and YellowDog linux ?? .. Did they license MacOS in order to port linux to PPC ??

    Apple is not the only company that can make PPC computer, why don't they continue with their BeBox?? they probably will be the second PPC Personal computer company on earth, if BeOS (so called media OS) is so important and so superior plus their own hardware, maybe apple/MacOS is now dead already.

    I don't see any reason why they not continue support or develope PPC Version of BeOS , but .. Oh yes .. there is some other more attractive offering in other places.....

    So please don't blame other company for their change of decision, and betrayal of their supporters.

    Apple did designed and developed the newton UI, which is totally touch screen controled, and I still think it's by far one of the best UI ever.

    There are many company using java on embeded systems, and many university has changed java as the entry level language, it'll be a nightmare for those University it java is dead.
    Javva is far from dead, though I don't really care about it..

    It's only not seling well in the US, maybe because people like walkman (tape) here... I got 2 MD walkman myself, and I hardly ever use my discman anymore now.

    well ... I'd rather pay a normal rental price for a DVD disc, and return it on time ...

    When you got a Divx, you kind of feel like owning something that you don't really own. well the disc is yours, but the data in the disc isn't. pretty cool idea.

    Also... Divx player are more expensive ($100), and the price for rental is 1-2 dollars more expensive than normal DVD or VHS rental, in the long term, it's still more expensive.

    anyway... itz not a standard...

    so .. can you tell me, why it is good ???

    I really wonder why people think DIVX is sellable .... when I could watch a movie in theater for $3.75, with all those wild screen, and sound effects which you could never ever be able to get at home with DIVX ...

    Best case:
    Everything won't change much

    Worse case:
    if you subscribe Cable TV, you'll see MS's logo flying all over your TV. you might see cartoon network's Cartoon got MS logos on their back.
    if you subscribe Cable internet, you might be required to use windows, and must use IE to hookup. And every morning MS will check your computer for illegal software, and force you to update to the latest version of IE.

    so why don't you just don't read it, and don't use the code !? .. just skip it if you don't like it, there is no need for you to hire a lawyer to read that.
    If you want to use the code or interested in it, but sadly you are illiterate, then go and hire a lawyer.

    Maybe there will be somebody asking why it's not in french or not in spanish or not in chinese or japanese ....

    Apple will either get good raputation or will have a very bad impression to many people if it doesn't handle Darwin's Open source agreement right.
    So the possiblity that apple will eventually get to an agreement that everybody agreeies (at least majority) is very high.

    if palmsize pc only got 8 MB of ram , he can only store 2 songs (at most).
    Also i think CE is a Small Computer .. because .. when I first know what a PDA is ... i thought it's an electronic device, I never seen anyone of those crash when I input addressbook or anything lke that .... Also whenever I press any button, the corresponding program or function will popup instantly ..
    but CE craches alot .. and pretty slow .... it got the symtoms of win9x and NT .. so I think it's a computer ...

    MMMMm..... are you re you are using you palm sized PC correctly ?
    according to my imagination, i think you palm sized PC will need a larger screen and more ram ..
    at least you should get 256MB of Ram for it.
    every mp3 songs need at leat 2-3 MB of space
    also ... if u want to play games with you palm sized pc ... U should have a bigger screen, otherwise we'll be quite worried about your eyes.
    I am not saying that winCE is not good. CE is very good .... some how it is too good for a plam size device, and not good enough for a destop PC or laptop. It's situation is just like Newton, it was too powerful for handheld device or too complicated, but not good enough for desktop.
    The situation is, if win CE is being developed and marketed by other small company other than MS.. I am sure it's already dead by now ... MS tried very hard to expeand it's market byt giving it away at very cheap price ... and always promise improvements ...

    I know ... my newton is also grey scale ....
    but after all these years .. palm pilot eventually got a gey scale screen ...
    I really don't expect a 16bit clolor screen for a such a small handheld device.

    I think you are the one whose no getting it. Apple is open sourcing partially of it's OS, and if you as me for an interpretation of this action is ....
    Apple want developers to port the base of MacOS X modify it, so eventually you'll see x86 port of darwin, Sparc's port Alpha's port of Darwin, and they all share some very basic components (eg maybe yellow box or carbon .. I am not sure) .. :P
    But in some sense they are not Mac .. they are Darwin ....
    So eventually there might be darwin clones , but no mac clones ...
    Correct me if you think I am wrong.

    I think the possibility of darwin being able to boot up is quite high, because as you see BSD is actually included in it.

    it's free actually .... Apple has already given up most of the OS X components to open source, though most of those things were actually open sourced long time ago. Apple is only keeping the user interface to themselves. What do u want them to do ?? .. U want them on one hand selling their OS for $500, and on the other hand giving it out ??

    if you like you can write a user interface for it, i really think it's a good (not great) opportunity of those interesting windowmanagers for X-win to try to incorporate to darwin. (especially windowmaker, it'll be just like a reborn of Nextstep), apple will be very unhappy to see that .... ~_~"

    I still think darwin is darwin, linux is linux.... just if later I got the interest of running darwin on my computer , I think I'll still install linux on the other partition.

    anyway .. Darwin some how will do some good to other opensource GNU projects like gnustep.

    any what what apple released as open source is open source...
    just that some of your modification might have conflict with other non open source components so you might need permission from apple to change that part .. (I think)
