This price increase is cause by the cost of content going up several hundred percent. Tell the content creators to lower their prices and cable companies could too.
As it is, Content creators charge what they want for their creation. As is their right.... Cable companies charge what it takes to make money over the top of that.
Unlike consumer electronics, somethings get more expensive over time, not less.
If you like submit the update utility... I use oinkmaster and have had good luck but if someone has another option... it would be interesting to look at.
As for the reasoning behind this. I have debated this with dozens of people in the last week. Snort.org and the sourceforge snort list are great resources.. but few people submit things that they think are only good for there INTERNAL use and nothing makes it into the signature-base until it gets approved... in my instalation and in others there is a need for a good source of sigs for exploits that have JUST been released. Snort.org doesnt want to, and I agree with them, start releasing untested signatures... They do an increadable job. I, and several others, wanted a place we could put our signatures for brand new stuff. so we each didnt have to write a new signature while we were waiting for the "official" sig to be released into the snort sig-base. This place give us a place to submit our sigs and use each others and it allows us to cut down on the maintenance time that we spend on our snort installs. It is a usefull place for us and I hope it becomes a usefull place for others in our situation.
As for your rules being uninteresting... I bet there is someone out there that would find them handy... Its not like it is hard to post them... and maybe someone can use them... I say post what you have... it cant hurt and it might help someone out!!
Well we are working on other options this seamed like the easiest and fastest way to get the idea off the ground... Does anyone have any software suggestions... Other than slashcode?? We are looking at CVS....
Uhhh well looking at a default phpBB directory that is not active and not connected to a DB I feel pretty safe that the info there is useless to you....
Hello,
My name is James and I am a Caffeine addict!!
(Hello James)
Seriously,
I average 4 Liters of Mt. Dew a day. More on a long day. 2 Years ago I quit. I quit cold turkey and went through the pain. It was horrible... I lived...
Of the things said here I have to say that I agree that Cold turkey is the only way... Part of any addiction is the cycle. If you are still taking cafeine you will still need it. even if you are only taking a little. if you just stop.. The day when you dont need it anymore comes much faster.
As for it being a psycological thing and that if you can keep your mind off from it you wont notice it..... Thats a CROCK.... It would take a LOT of sex to take my mind of that much pain... GOOD sex. You are going to suffer through the pain... Start suffering now and you wont have to later.
I will say this... I had to drive 42 hours strait earlier last year... to complete the drive I had to take a LOT of caffeine... It hooked me on it again. Like any drug... Once you are hooked it is VERY easy to go back to using.... no matter how long you have been "Clean".
With only 20 or 30 minutes of advanced warning they couldnt realy do anything anyway. The most realy is get it up on there web site, anounce to a few important customers and maybe email a few other companies that would put advisories up on there site.
Besides, with the speed this spread, I am inclined to believe that if they new in advance it was more like 5 or 10 minutes and not 20 or 30.
I work in an area imidiatly adjoining Disney World. I know a lot of people there. There hourly employees get 1.5X up to 2X OT, but there salaried managers are expected to work 10 or more hours a week overtime. I have never understood this. if an hourly employee worked the same hours that the managers do they will end up getting paid MORE due to there overtime! As an hourly I would like that but the managers dont seam to care. I have always thought that was fucked!!
A lot of high level managers and CEOs have been fired for forgeting "due diligence". I bet the more publicly traded companies have CEOs that remember that too. They try to scrape every cent they can out of each person because of it.
People at that level tend to forget what we peons are like. They think they have bigger things to worry about. I can remember Michael Eisner calling all non management employees at DisneyWorld "Trained Monkeys" not so long ago
This cant be a good idea, Can it?? If you were picked a foe based on a particular comment and that was out of the ordinary for them. We have all mode the occasional troll post.
What if your "friends" dont like someone and you find humor in there comments, or would if you had read them.
There are way to many ways for this not to work well. In theory it is great. But you still have to trust yourself to pick good friends and you have to trust them to pick good friends. Doesnt seem any better than the moderation setup we have going now.
I am not part of the Kernel development team. I have never met or even seen Linus.
With that clarified....
Why should he care?? This started as a pet project in college to him. Does anyone see a distribution of Linux with his name on the cover?? Does anyone see him trying to market Linux in any real way?? I sure don't. He likes to thrash around in the code. He has proven that he is good at it. He makes pretty good decisions about what is the next thing to be added to the Kernel. I think we are expecting a lot of him already. Why expect him to be the person with all the answers.
Linus and Linux are not the same thing. Granted, he started it, but it has grown well past what any one man can handle. Why should he care what everyone else is doing?? He is doing good with the Linux Kernel as it is. He sees where people want to go by what they submit to him and he and his group put it into the kernel tree as they feel it is ready. There is no reason that he should care where Microsoft is going in the future. I know I don't care much. I can't even see a reason why he should care about what the BSDs are doing. That makes a differance to most of us, but why should we expect it of him??
He does a good job at what he is doing. Why should he need to care what anyone else is doing??
There is a Mill surplus place about 5 min. from my office in Orlando. They have a huge selection of racks and rack stuff.(fans, Power Supplies, UPS, etc) I have bought short racks there. Like 4ft tall. they are a little scratched up but for $25 whose complaining.
We are currently using Postfix. It was pretty easy to set up and once we got over a small DNS issue it work smooth and fast. Looking forward to getting my hands on a book though. The literature available for it on the web is limited to rehashes of the.conf file. A real hardcopy text will be nice to have.
ok so........ Whats the problem???Wasn't the.com.au domain INTENDED for companies??
If he isn't handing out ANY domains, thats a problem. I don't see a reason to complain though if you don't get your www.whatever.com.au domain. its not like there aren't other and BETTER options than.com. It happens to be the most popular but, for a personal site, why not use what he has offered for personal domains??? Do you have a thing for.com??? Don't complain about the guy because you don't like the rules. There have to be some rules, these seam to make more sence than alot.; Just imagine what the govt. will do if they get ahold of the domain. That will be cause for alarm!!
.com stands for, or was intended to, commercial. which has been abreviated com for several decades.
The one major thing you need when starting out as an ISP is cash flow.
We opened doors as a service provider just over a year ago. We do all the normal dialup stuff and we can resell DSL in areas that have is available. We get our main cash flow through server collocation and admin. We do Corperate E-mail and web hosting. These are the more Profitable ISP services. If you can offer a god degree of security and find a local computer comapny that will give you a good deal on systems you can sell linux or BSD servers and host them for a pretty good profit. You are already the admin for your own servers, keeping na couple more running is almost no work at all. It is much easier to deal with the hassles of running a dialup ISP and keeping you servers and equiptment running when your checking account has a positive ballance.
Running an ISP isn't difficult once you learn the systems you need to run it. The hard part is keeping the bills paid.
I would recomend anything with the Yamaha sound field chips. Most good studios use Yamaha chips to encode Dolby AC-3 and that is still the most widly used method. This chipset does an excelent job with DSP and sony digital as well.
I've had 2 Yamahas and have loved both. Very pure sound and VERY durable. They both handled heavy use and abuse well.
Having opened an ISP withing the last year, I can say from experience that there are some things it is worth paying for. If you are just putting things together then eventually you will come to know that there are just some things you don't have the time to customize and there are very few open source solutions out there that will do what you want " of the shelf".
With the number of major companies that are already using netware I can't see novell falling apart very soon. I work part time for Disney. (gets me into the real world once a week) And they use netware on all of there office and minor backoffice machines. They have a pretty good size staff that are novell people and have had alot of applications writen specificaly to run in a netware environment. Some of the things they have done would have been much easier and/or more efficient on a differant platform but they used netware and with the fear of software upgrades that companies like Disney have I dont see them letting go of nevell soon!
if you had an install where a very select amount of info was reused a great deal. Say a web server that serves only a few very small pages but takes a huge number of hits or a database that is VERY small.
There are instances where it could be a usefull tool. Not very many that I can see though. As far as a home system goes, you generaly wouldn't have the resources to spare. Maybe if you have say 1GB of ram. In that case you could probably spare some and not notice the differance elsewhere. but at that point you most likely have a system so fast anyway that you couldnt realy tell the differance in speed.
I think what most people here are missing is that it may not be Judge Kaplan's job to compare this with the constitution. Now IANAL but i was of the opinion that, technicaly speeking, a judge in a lower court is supposed to to uphold the writen laws are. The constitution is suposed to be left for the higher courts to decide upon.
We all hate the DMCA. That has been stated enough. But it is a law. While Judge Kaplan may be able to rule against it and let 2600 link to DeCSS he cant repeal the law. It may be a better thing that it is going to a higher court. If we win there the DMCA can actualy be repealed.
Judge Kaplan may have been a little week in the knees and not wanted to make this type of ruling on his own but it may turn out better that he didn't.
One day they will just stop offering video and they will become profitable again.

Many boards now have 4 IDE channels, I.E. they support 8 drives.

Lets get SUPER technical and say it is one book split into three that are again each split into three.
I find it very funny that this article in about a better web server and the site is unreachable. Slachdot effect??
