"The combat itself is moronic and for a long time (until I stopped) unplayable. Take an action, wait minutes, see it hit. This wasn't lag anymore, this was insanity."
Huh? Were you playing on a 486 or something?
I work for a very large video game company, and agile works for us. My team has a twin-team, one that uses 3 week iterations while ours has adapted to 1 week iterations and it works great. We release often and early thanks to various automated processes we employ, making life easier for everyone. Managers stay happy since they can actually see progress and measure team velocity which results in an actual accurate sprint/accurate planning. Planning for our iterations doesn't take that long also with smaller iteration cycles. I am happy with it.
Well it was about time no? My holloween costume from last year included a yellow walkman, some folks could have thought I was the Encino Man lol...I didn't know they were still in production!
I am in-game playing right now, and my sent is 29 ms while my receive is around 90 ms on average while fighting monsters. What about you, did you actually play the game or are you just babbling?
The real lag is with the UI which is implemented server side. I figure they wanted to do this to combat cheaters sniffing packets. They have said they will improve the lag by splitting what is drawn on the screen in proximity by rendering them on different servers and such.
Your claim that nobody wants to play with folks outside their region makes you sound like a racist. I love playing with friends and strangers alike from different countries. Let me guess, you are american...
And how is this a problem or a flaw of the game, because you say so? I doubt they'll have NA servers. Then they'll have to have EU servers as well because of EU complainers similar like yourself.
Which means that almost all of the NA players will go to NA servers, EU players to EU servers...
And then I don't think the game will really be as exciting anymore.
Wish I had written this but this sums up exactly what I think about this "problem" you face:
If it was a company based in the UK I'd expect the same - even if there is no way a company based in the UK would run servers here, due to the taxes of doom:) As long as it does not have too detrimental an effect on the gameplay I doubt you will need to worry about it. I get pings of around 240ms on WoW at the moment and notice no issues, I had about the same during my brief time in FFXI.
To be honest unless its particularly twitch based or requires amazing platforming skills there is very little to worry about, even the quickest MMO has a very steady and predictable pace.
But this is an issue that will never be fixed, because Square Enix considers "international servers" to be a feature - never mind the fact that no one wants that feature.
And you know this how, you've been to the future McFly?
A gravity tug mike work, but it takes like 100 years or so to move a 200 meter wide asteroid (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4420762.stm).
I am no rocket scientist but what about attaching an engine to the side of the asteroid and turning it on (hopefully it stays attached)? Wouldn't that speed up the deflection process time?
I don't know if the folks that review the game actually play the game. I find it pretty cool and inovative the damage to body parts and less-so battle regimens (skill chains FFXI).
Damage to Body Parts:
Among the enemies found throughout Eorzea, there are those with body parts susceptible to damage. Sustaining a certain amount of damage will result in those body parts becoming incapacitated. For example, an aldgoat’s horns may be broken, or a diremite’s stinger lopped off. This is achieved through the use of specific weaponskills that automatically target these body parts whenever they are present. When the body part of an enemy is incapacitated, it will suffer the following effects:
Weaken the monster
Prevent the monster from using its special attacks
Influence the type of loot dropped
Also yes, there are some things that are annoying like no AH and mailing stuff to players, but I am sure this will be resolved soon. Just the fact that one can use almost any skill from any job is pretty cool, you can customize your character how ever you wish.
"they could be a source of intelligence on military aircraft"
New Zealand has top secret military aircrafts?
" the reports might even contain information on craft of neighbouring nations"
Those Papau New Guina aircrafts are state of the art!
Amazing HiRISE pictures. Now they need to release those HiRISE pictures of that 3 boobed martian chick from Total Recall.
France being France.

Just look for the 3 eyed green ones.

Wake me up before you go-go...
Does it have a V-Tech engine?
Then why assume life out there needs oxygen like us?
Considering most of the planets in our solar system have an atmosphere, it is not that far fetched...
...for the leap in the right direction!

$10 billion to $1-2 billion? What corners are they going to cut I wonder...
"Ok astronauts, we had some budget cuts so you will have to hold your breath once you get out of our atmosphere..."
Will this new technology finally bring us to our beloved flying cars?
Let us get the word out since the media sure as heck won't.

Lol, obviously might, not mike!

Me.
Facebook friends or real friends? ;)
Well it gets fixed with an AH type global market search and mailbox system. They will bend to player pressure sooner or later.
