With MS Visual studio / VB any old monkey can make GUI apps easily...
And I'm happy that the "I know how to code in MS Access", "Who needs Object-Orientation in VB.NET? I can code like in VB6!" and "What is a parameterized query?" stays away from my platform of choice. Microsoft might have the bigger ecosystem of developers, but they're also crappier for the most part.
*Easy to use
*Widely supported
*Actively maintained
*Designed for use with a somewhat mainstream language
Eclipse, NetBeans, QtCreator, MonoDevelop and CodeBlocks come to mind. I'd consider those all 4 (well, except MonoDevelop maybe) of your points. I mean, if you consider Java and C++ mainstream...it was at least for the last 15 to 25 years.
Don't get me wrong, I know what you mean...but it isn't like that anymore. I'm using Visual Studio everyday...and there's not one day I don't want to stuff it down someones throat or light it on fire...
What's the point in locking yourself in if there isn't anything special about the hardware in the first place?
You did not get the whole "we're doing everything we can to force Windows upon users" thing Microsoft is doing, right? If every new PC can only run Windows, guess what OS everyone will buy...
Besides, there are plenty of enterprise customers running Linux servers and workstations, so making that an option would just add uncertainty to the supply chain and make those customers uncomfortable.
Exactly my thoughts. I always get the creeps when somebody comes up with "let's use Google Office for accounting!"...yeah, right, what can possibly go wrong? Same goes with putting everything into the cloud. Most companies would be better off with using a small in-house server for this stuff.
Really? I only know this issue from one certain OS (though, if it is good maintained it doesn't matter either)...other OSs with good package-managers don't seem to suffer that issue.
Nonononono...we all know that Linux is just a cheap rip-off of Windows (like every other Unix) and every single piece of FLOSS is using patented technology innovated by Microsoft.
...that's the headline from linked to at the bottom of the article.
Headlines do not count. There was once a headline in the "Heute"-Newspaper here in Austria, (poorly translated by me) "Boy hit by subway". So, what are the first thoughts you have? A child being overrun by the subway because it fell on the tracks? Well, a little bit off...it was a 22-year old which was too dumb to get behind the orange line and got streaked by the train (broken arm).
Almost impossible to believe, I know, but even this insensitive tinkering doesn’t lessen the greatness of the Japanese publicity campaign for the Blu-ray release. Advertisers have turned the grab-bars on the Tokyo subway into lightsabers.
Screenshots, please! No, not that I don't believe you, the exact opposite is the case...I want to see that! That's like seeing awesome, e17 or a screen session in action...it just looks plain cool and you want to do it yourself but you know that it will blow your mind.
Sloow animations on the menus. You have to hit menu (and wait for all the elements to slide in) then click on the submenu, and wait for all the elements to slide in and then click on "map" (instead of just being able to hit 'm' or whatever).
If you find those menus bad, try to play Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Well, actually playing it wasn't bad...I break into a cold sweat everytime I have to open *any* kind of menu or overlay screen.
If you can prove we weren't the "chosen ones" or you can ultimately prove what actually created the universe and create life from nothing in a scientific way, a LOT of religious people will be disappointed.
Nope. Some religious people will be disappointed, the rest will go "God did that, too" and will ignore some facts.
So I did miss the memo. ;)
I did a quick search but nothing turned up, thanks for the link!
...humans began painting a curious creature on the walls of European caves. Among the rhinos...
Did I miss a memo?

It has an important, meaningful name: Everything That Configures.

And? It's not like MS doesn't have salesman.
I read that as "spit on the Ur-Quan" at first.
But the RIAA is scared of Apple, so they insisted on a non-proprietary lossless format.
RIAA insisting on open formats?
That brings something to mind...a lock-screen where you have to beat a game of Frogger to unlock it.
Exactly my thoughts. I always get the creeps when somebody comes up with "let's use Google Office for accounting!"...yeah, right, what can possibly go wrong? Same goes with putting everything into the cloud. Most companies would be better off with using a small in-house server for this stuff.
The trick is to not tell you that it's a Kingston SSD. ;)
Really? I only know this issue from one certain OS (though, if it is good maintained it doesn't matter either)...other OSs with good package-managers don't seem to suffer that issue.
As a note: premature != early.
I would have compared the boot-time of Linux to this, but they never state what harddrive they're using, rendering any compare worthless.
...on second thought, let's just compare that against my 1.8Ghz Core2Duo, 2GiB RAM Notebook: Debian Wheezy needs 4 seconds to boot. :O
So, you consider JavaScript an STD? Oh boy, I sure hope you never learn what ActiveX is...well, hopefully was.
Nonononono...we all know that Linux is just a cheap rip-off of Windows (like every other Unix) and every single piece of FLOSS is using patented technology innovated by Microsoft.
On the other hand...what did you expect?
Arrr...that's technically two questions, I know.
And I have still this one simple question: How are the infecting the systems and is it cross-platform?
Microsoft was able to build an entire OS without using Open Source Software.
Yeah, but look what became of it.

So, why'd he on facebook then?

I hate to spoil the fun, but...
