    The GAO has always been the "General Accounting Office" and works for Congress. Similar in function to the "Inspector General" in the military, investigate problems and report to superiors with evidence.

    There is a big difference between qualifying trim and race trim. The cars that qualified at the front were running 4 - 5 MPH slower yesterday in race trim (more downforce added for handling in traffic = more drag). Hid chances are not good but it has been done from that far back before. Moreno is one hell of a good driver and has built a huge reputation as a substitute over the last few years, step into anyones car and go fast. If you see an interview he is also a nice guy.

    Absolutely, the wording of the laws written today just guarantee perpetual employment for lawyers to translate that crap into English. Lawyers elected to office just turn it into a jobs program for their peers. All laws should be written using a 12th grade dictionary, any word not in that book causes an automatic veto. That way most people can understand the law without needing a lawyer. Fat chance that will ever happen.

    It's pretty sad when the best law in the last thirty years that is understandable and seems to work is the Do Not Call List!

    If you don't think frivolous lawsuits are out of control, by a lawnmower and look at the manual that comes with it. If you just take all the items about actual operation and maintenance you will have about 6 pages. The other 10 - 20 pages of safety warnings are the result of lawsuits! This was demonstrated in a mangement class in 93 by the Prof that bought one over the summer. He found one where a moron sued a mower company because they didn't specificly warn him not to pick it up while running to trim a hedge, and won!

    Need more on why Edwards is unfit? When he was elected to the Senate in 98 he never served as a true Senator, he thought he got elected Presidential candidate and missed over half the votes of his 6 year term. He will lose any election in NC, Primary or General. We know about this "champion of the poor" that lives in a 6 million dollar home with enough space in the barn (due to a remodel that is almost finished) to house a secret service detail. Overconfidant? I hope so!

    Trial lawyers are the only group that I trust less than politicians.

    You write that like you don't think Gates & Balmer would do something like that. Based on their normal business practices I'd say it was very possible. They have no respect or consideration for paying customers anymore than they do for other sortware companies.

    Too expensive! A more fitting punishment would be to tie all trial lawyers to trees, upsidedown, and feed them ex-lax for a week. Then they would be covered in what they try to dish out to the rest of us!

    Start with John Edwards since the only thing he ever did "for" North Carolina with his malpractice suits is raise the cost of insurance to the point that there are now 10% fewer Doctors here than 15 years ago. This is the kind of slime that wants to be President?

    Someone understands, wow! All this grandstanding by the Congresscritters is just that. They have no say in the matter and what they think is not real important. Remember, Clinton fired 92 of them in 93. The only one not fired? Chertoff, current head of Homeland Security. If any Dem gets the Presidency in 08 plan on all 93 getting canned within a week of Jan. 20 2009. They are political appointees and that's the way it works.

    We got inside the screen every time. Whether against a U.S. Task Group, NATO group, or Soviet, didn't matter. They couldn't find us if we didn't want to be found. We had to install a noisemaker for exercises, played tapes of Red boats through a 500W Mcintosh amp and still got inside the screen. When the Kiev first left the Black Sea and came into the Med, we went underneath and did a hull survey, photographed every square inch. She was only escorted by 5 Destroyers, 2 Cruisers and 3 subs. We did not get caught!

    Have you ever served on a sub? I question your knowledge. The way you detect a nuclear sub is still by noise, normally the cooling pumps for the reactor. Cold fusion would eliminate those pumps and the noise that goes with it. A diesel electric has always been the quitest boat under the sea and anyone can sneak up on a surface task force. We used to joke about the skimmers pinging away like they could find something with active sonar, what a joke! We could hear them pinging over 50 miles away, with that kind of head start did they stand a chance of finding us? Hell NO!. Every exercise with a USN task force or RN ended with us inside the screen and execise shots passing under the flagship. Nobody ever tracked us thermally because it mixes with the surrounding water to fast. Now a P3 with a MAD unit (magnetic anomally detector) was a bitch to get away from! That was the only thing that could ever find us when we didn't want to be found. The Soviets were always 3 generations behind in quieting and sonar.

    It's not stupid. If I have a return coming I file in Feb. normally e-file. If I have to pay I don't e-file I mail it in on the last possible day. Why give them money any sooner than required it's not like you get interest for this years taxes by sending it early? The reason I mail a payment is that if I have to pay, they have to deal with the heaping pile of paper, make them earn it by sorting through all the crap they require, instead of the simple e-file version.

    If we thought half of our money was being spent wisely, we wouldn't complain nearly as much about taxes!

    There is only one problem with that: in the last 35 years, every time the Dems talk about raising the taxes on the rich, mine go up. I have never made $50,000 in a year! The bank and I own a house. My oldest lives here with her family because life is a bitch at times, no assistance needed, we take care of each other!

    Regardless of party, if you are not in the same tax bracket ($155,000) you have NO representation in Washington!

    They want to tax everything they can so they have more money to waste. Depending on where you are the tax on gas (Fed and State) is already 50% - 65%. Smokes only cost around $.35 a pack to produce and about $1.00 to put on the shelf, the rest is tax. To produce and market a bottle of booze is only about $6.00, how much do you pay above that? It's tax! I do agree that there should be a bigger break for solar and wind generation but our congresscritters killed most of that in the 90's. They will never give up an existing source of funds and don't have the common sense to change. It's really our money not theirs but nobody holds them accountable, it's time to vote against all incumbants for 5 or 6 elections, throw them all out and elect people who have had "real" jobs, if you can find enough willing to go into that sewage pit. Not just Washington, but state and local too! Since we are stuck with income tax they need to change to a flat tax with no exceptions, every person and business pays the same. They would collect more money than they ever have, and most of us would pay less.

    By making it available in whatever format is desired, at a price most are willing to pay.
    In music Itunes has changed the business model. People pay $.99 for songs they want and don't buy the whole CD. When was the last time a CD came out with 12+ "really good" songs on it? Everyone that pays for music buys singles now and avoids the "filler" tracks. Movies don't need to cost $12 - $20 for a DVD. Sell downloads for $7.50, about the same as a ticket to the theatre. People can then rip their own DVD's. Piracy will never end, I don't care what laws or penalties come, someone will always do it for the fun/challenge, deal with it!
