Joe Average have no idea that his fancy new laptop is bugged down with crap because he doesn't know about any alternative, and only use the computer once a day to check facebook.

Wow. This is a little tangential, but lots of people on slashdot apparently HATE nontechnical users. So what if they want to look at facebook? They pay the salaries of many people on this forum. Maybe you should save your disdain for a more worthy target.

It's not going to work. Network lag + rendering lag + controller input lag + television input lag = an unplayable experience, unless you exclusively play turn-based strategy games.

Yeah, lag is an initial concern, but in my experience has little impact for most games. I played through the entirety of just cause 2 and assassin's creed 2, and lag wasn't a problem. But it may be different for twitchier games like fps or racing. I recommend you give it a try and see if it's a deal breaker.

Yeah but what about android vs. iphone? This is what it's all about. More noncompetitive action from "open source friendly" google.

Will Google only use webm for YouTube, forcing me to use its plugin so I can watch silly videos? If I use Google's plug-in, will they track all my internet activity? While Google will provide support to other desktop browsers, will they use this as a wedge against iPhone/mobile safari? Make no mistake, this is very Machiavellian and sucks for users.

uhh... an exponential curve keeps going up. there's no maximum, no dropping down to zero. Perhaps you're thinking of a bell curve? Feel free to mod this comment down because it provides no useful content and is just kind of snarky. In fact, I should just hit the cancel button instead of the preview/submit buttons. oops...

It has been THIRTY SIX YEARS since the Altair 8800 appeared on the cover of Popular Electronics, and yet, there are people who STILL think it is acceptable to have to mess with their home/work computers (for non-"development" tasks) on an hourly/daily/weekly basis. All I can say to those people is: You will never get those hours back. Why waste them on what is, at this point, about as exciting as having to rebuild your TV set, just to watch Caprica (no flames, I just picked a random show)? Or is your time REALLY worth nothing to you?

I know this response will get buried with all the other low-scoring items, but I just had to say: you're absolutely 100% right. I use macs because I have so many things better to do than fiddle with stuff that was poorly designed, implemented, and is incompatible with other similar stuff. The sad part for me is I talk to less-savvy people at work who really feel bad that their computer crashes, gets a virus, or they don't understand how to use a program, like it's their fault or they are ignorant / incapable. I try to shake them (figuratively) and say, it's not your fault that the junk was poorly designed in the first place! don't feel bad! We would all be better off if we held programmers and hardware makers to higher standards of usability, reliability, and interoperability.
