Okay...I run BIND for where I work. Given that I'm not Earthlink and connecting massive amounts of the american populous to the net, but we've got about 5500 people.
As I read through the comments on here, I find things like Superroot.net, alternic, etc...
So, for people to get access to these rogue sites, I need to add all these other entries to my root.db and other files. And merge the entries from the various splinter groups, as I can't just dowload one groups root.db and run with it. And what is going to happen when two groups both have the same TLD listed in there?
I'm all for ICANN going away, but like it or not, there needs to be that tiny bit of control in there to keep utter anarchy (ie alt.*) from happening.
Anyone have a better way of handling this nightmare?
Palms are great - I really love them. But they're not perfect. I don't know a whole lot about them, but do they have a TCP/IP stack? I don't think so, but I could be wrong
I rememeber a long time ago (late 80s) reading a writeup of the Morris Internet Work attack. At that point, I had no idea what Unix really was, or TCP/IP. I just remember the paper talking about an attack coming on in port something and sending a packet back to port something else.
I had this visual of this computer with somesort of interface that had x number of physical ports on it...kinda like a LOT of serial ports or something just sitting there.
Okay...so I want to get a boot of a show, but I have nothing to trade. How do I get the boot?
Do I buy a bootleg so I have something to offer?
What if someone who has a bootleg I want doesn't want anything I have?
That's what I love about Napster. I could care less that I can go get someones new album that I didn't care about anyway. What I like is that I can finally fill in all those missing pieces from various Rush bootlegs off Usenet.
BTW, since I pay for my usenet access, and am downloading bootlegs, is it good karma for the usenet provider to make money off me?:)
If the companies aren't even going to support the software, then why go after people who are sharing the old, unsupported games and utilities?
Well, today they don't have an interest. But what is to say that tomorrow Activision may release a CD that has 20 of their classic games on it? Infocom and Sierra have done this.
I must agree...I've been meaning to take my ton of 3.5" and 5.25" disks and put them all on one CD. The trouble is that I don't have a way of reading those 5.25". This will definatly make that task easier.
My other problem is how to deal with games like Amnesia which required you to boot of the disk. Hmmm...can DOSEMU handle that if I point it to a disk image to boot off?
Then again, I'm a bit odd as I just spent an hour playing CIA Adventure on my palm, just because I loved that game.
Just like the letter said - if you bring up the competing factions and the problems caused, people step forward and say that competition is a good thing.
Whether billg actually wrote it or not, love Linux or not, it was a chillingly accurate statement of the linux community.
I made the mistake when I was naive of putting my e-mail address on some Comdex registration form, and putting it on the "fill out to download a trial version of Eudora".
Now, 3 e-mail address changes later, I am still getting this crap (forwarded). No matter how many addresses at each company I try, I still get the crap. I even complained to ZD's upstream provider and got a generic "Thank you for the report" e-mail, but of course, no-one is gonna cut them off.
Verisign was another terrible one, but I finally complained enough there to get removed from all their mailing lists.
I tried to look at the Pioneer plaque - but alas, I was at a public library and it assumed that it was pornography.

Perchance it's just me, but it seems almost every web board I come across in the result of a search BITES.
People there are just morons. You'll find a question, and 5 out of 6 replies will be the original post indented and no new information, as if they hit reply and forgot to type anything else in.
You must have had some shitty teachers. And how can anyone be smug at $24k a year?
I think what pissed me off in high school is when the administration would start talking about banning this or that for some insane reason - which was to say that declining grades were probably due to the Iron Maiden t-shirts being worn - as smart as violence is linked to video games.
I agree...either people downloading from 56K (I have a T1) fail constantly, or I'll try to download and I get either timed out waiting for the transfer to start, "This user is not properly configured", or it just aborts half-way through.
And this is going after users on cable, dsl, and T's.
I guess it's no loss though - many of the files that do make it are someone elses aborted transfers and only half a file.
And I agree about the people with DS3's listed as 14.4k...that's why I go for ping times!
Why not? The article says that right now it's all just beta - ie...monopoly money floating around, but when it goes live, you will be able to buy or sell mojo for whatever the market will hold. So, if someone is selling 60GB of hard disk space for 1,000,000 mojo points, and you buy 1,000,000 mojo points on e-bay for $500, then yes you are a moron, but, someone else is rich.
But like it says, there is no x mojo=y dollars.

Yes...they do.
Hell...for $300 bucks I can probably get another PC to run Winders on. Why complicate things?
I work for you now Harry. You say drink coffee...I drink coffee.
Agent Dale Cooper "Twin Peaks"
the dvd rip is quick.
"My Man Godfrey" is an unencrypted disk.

Odd.
"Honey, why did it record Butt Slave IV last night instead of Friends?"

Great - now I'll have to get one of these to play Robotron under MAME. Not that I'd be any better than I ever was in the arcade.
Two joysticks is just a nightmare for me.
I heard those ads too. I want to find someone who was around in the 50's and see if it reminds them of McCarthyism.

It sickens me how much money is donated and spent on this bullshit that could be better donated to help people out.
I must be a moron. I can't get NetSol to change my contact information, delete a domain, or change the technical contact info on a domain.

Nope...just wore the shirts anyway, along with a good percentage of the student population.
I guess you don't know squat if you paid penalties for something that was not wrong.
Man...I suck at FPS's (unless I get a sniper rifle). I can't aim worth crap, even with a real gun and a still target.
If the world ever does become anarchy, I'll probably get fragged pretty quickly - hopefully though I won't blow myself up like I tend to do in Unreal.
Hmmm...time to baricade myself in the New York Public Library and change my name to Brain - where's Adrienne Barbeau?

Never had a problem with that. My win98 machine is on 24/7 and I have yet to have a problem with it.
Then again, I don't download every app that I can shove in the system tray.
