Someone go to www.kids.com, or one of the various other domains that C|Net has registered to bounce unsuspecting people to their damn portal. What is the difference here? I haven't seen anyone bashing CNET for the fact that they have a million domains that just dump you the content of CNET.com Yeah, we should burn them all!! =) -S
I would hate to be the peon who just got hired to be a code jockey... then when the boss hands me the following assignment, I would quit:
"Dear Scott,
Please go through the 10 million lines of windows source and remove all comments describing our techniques of making competitive software function less efficiently.
We will be making our code open source, so we need to use numerical codes to mask our policies... The 4000 page code manual will arrive shortly, please replace comments with the appropriate alphanumeric codes.
Thank you,
Mr. Pointy Hair"
If it is anything like the geek code, we could see some really neat comments coming out of Redmond.
How is netscape going to survive if they can't sell off our personal info and statistics when we download communicator with encryption? We may never see the next release.

Semi Off Topic, but I was wondering if the support for this existed in Samba. Yes, it's not too secure... but.
95/98 allows you to put a read-only PW on a share, and a full access pw on a share... the only way I've been able to set up shares to allow a specific user with a password for the linux box to log on, but I can't allow random access with a predetermined password.

A paper up near Green Bay has a Y2k Reporter. A friends brother got the job, his responsibility is making up a new story to scare the public every 3 or 4 days. Spread the panic, I always say... Last week he wrote about an appliance repairman charging 100$ per house to make their household appliances Y2K compliant. Sweet Job.

Not sure how bad this hurts if they only send my Video card brand and model #... if they're stealing my ethernet MAC address, or some random stupid serial numbers for programs on my computer, then I would have a problem...

I really was impressed in the original version how you were given a childs perspective of the world. Seeing the adults faces really wasn't a good idea in this movie... Great movie none the less, but I wish those faces weren't in there.
Oh well. Does anyone have any specs on the software they used this time around, and the size of their render farm? =)

My computer learned how to blow a power supply last week. Since I have no idea on how to do that by myself, can I patent the technology the computer used? But to do so, I'll probably have to figure out a way to read the smoke signals. Good thing I taped them!

I think that doing this stuff is a great idea. Giving away a free operating system while promoting technology education in "developing" countries will give a lot of people a chance to be exposed to new ideas.

It's nice to see that people are creating the ability for people to migrate from other software platforms to linux easily. From the little bit of information I saw about the Pick software they were using, its surprising this migration ability exists.

I would assume it would be possible to design a treadmil with a large enough surface area to do this. Basically create a floor with pressure sensitive rolling bearings... so the system can keep track of your position, but you can step anywhere. If you were walking straight, but then wanted to jump left, you would just jump left, the pressure of where you were standing would be released and then when you landed it would sense how far you traveled and in what direction you traveled. If you wanted to analyze body motion during the movement, you could use video cameras or a "body suit" similar to those used to making computer animations. The only difficult part of this would be making a walking surface that would hold up under a lot of wear and tear, but I would assume it could be done? Any comments, please email me.

Just looking for a way to play with raid on a home system. As you put it, if it were to go down, who cares =) I'd rather make mistakes now while I can afford them.
Kind of off topic, but for the past couple of years I've wanted to set up a small raid setup in my "server" here at home. What are the most reasonable setups that you've seen around? What raid hardware, and what drives would you consider best to use just for low cost educational purposes.
