It occured to me that if every chip in my computer were giving off an ID signal vea radio I'd never get my TV card or radio to pick up anything.
As it is my computer allready generates a larg amount of radio interfearence if each chip is purpousfully transmitting a signal I can not see that as helpping.
Also Sun Microsystems and Moderola are in the busness of making extreamly high speed CPUs.
I would think if Sun and Moderola had to design chips to handle an ID transmitter that would slow them down a bit. At the very least they'd have to make allounced for a transmitter being less than an inch away from the logic.
More and more patents seem to seem like the intelectuall version of "First Post"s...
Rambus joins a group develuping new technology "First Patent"...
Amazon and one click shopping "If we didn't they would have"...
The whole busness of "We patented it before you could do it" is getting silly...
It's just a good thing for Microsoft somebody didn't patent FUD or they'd be sued up to there eyeballs...
My guess is this is the Joe Macarthy America where anyone who dosn't pass a test or standard of behavure is "un-american" a 1984ish vision where a big brother uses an "inquision" to seperate "enemys" from "good guys"...
I was lissening to a talk show talking about a political issue. I'll refrain from mentionning the issue itself to prevent straying from the topic... I'll just say it's illegal and some people want to make it not illegal.
Ok so the talk hoast was all for keeping it illegal up to the point where the law enforcment offical openly said we should arrest everyone who advocates making it legal. He believes only people allready doing it would want to make it legal.
It's addatudes like this that are in fact un-american... selfish self-rightous and self serving...

Sence it's hard to prove fraud in this case [they seem to reject only a precent of the rebates.. not all of them... it's hard to prove inconsistent behavure] they aren't likely to take action...
This seems to be a rather obveous answer to the question.. how can a company offer 100% rebate?

The usual answer is most people don't bother sending the rebates in...

We all kinda know Geoworks as that operating system devluped on the C64 and later moved to the PC.
It also made it to PDAs and when that bombed.. Cell phones.
The prior art may be on Geoworks side guys.. The web browser in Geos version 3 may accually put Geoworks as the first internet ready os on a cell phone.
However Geoworks didn't clame a patent at the time and probably for good reason. They didn't need it. Yes to spite the fact that Geoworks was suffering horrably when they entered the cell phone arena they didn't need a patent on cell phone imbeded web browsers.
Patents like this are a clear sign somethings wrong. Ok we knew that at Geoworks but they've been hanging on pritty well over the years entering death throws many times sence they were nocked off the PC by Microsoft and then off the PDA market by it's own supporters apathy.
I'm cought between this on 3 points...
1. I like Geoworks... it's a neat operating system and they have done a great job. Getting that to work on a C64 and later on a cell phone is pritty cool.
2. This patent has got to go. This sort of thing hurts the develupment of internet cell phone systems.
3. Accually I'm not fond of internet cell phones and would rather see wireless PDA technology push them out.
In the end I want to see Geoworks go out of busness. The loss of technology is sad but the damage they'd do to a.. lesser technology.. is more distruptive.
Anyway it looks like Geoworks technology is dead allready.. and while I don't like internet cell phones I think wireless internet (in any form) is a good idea and I'd like to keep options open.
I mean at the very least we need Internet PCS phones to keep wireless PDA on it's toes...

There is a stereotype that exists that geeks are weak antisocal introverted computer freaks and jocks are strong violent socal airheads..

Parents and media are using simple templates. Stereotypes.. that are correct in there own little world.. may have been true once but not anymore..
Cartoons are for kids... Japanise cartoons aka Anime have been for mature audences for a long long time...
The whole notion is "hand drawn art" is for kids is really not even remotely realistic. Even american animation isn't allways targetting kids.
Print comic strips.. hand drawn art.. aren't allways for kids eather. Early sereals were targetting adults.. Mary Worth is not for kids.
Anime is usually high quality art.. It's a simplifying addadtude that assumes Anime will be like Disney.
Let's move on.. if we want to swallow this template as meaning anything you must assume believe that live action is for adults... So you can discount power rangers as being to violent becouse it's not a kiddie show.. not anime.. not hand drawn art.. it's live action...
The assumption isn't carryed out.. live action can be for adults or kids. Hand drawn art is not granted this same fact...
Pokemon is not Dragon Ball Z... Power Rangers isn't The Terminator...
"But kids might see it"...
A far more sinister template is this short statment.... "Kids might see it"...
Before we start cutting blood and violence out of shows kids "MIGHT" see.. let's cut blood and violence out of stuff kids do see.. watch. lissen and read.. every day... the news...
The first fact is that this stuff isn't for kids second is you can't play moral police and not end up with a minstry of the truths...
The first premiss that really kicks this whole thing off is the idea that knowladge is dangerous.. that images and sounds can warp a person and make them evil..
Letting kids know what violence looks like turns them into psycopathic killers...
Maybe it's true for adults as well...
better protect them... ignorence is bliss...
Better start building that minstry of truths....

Etoy spammed Slashdot posters presenting support for etoy asking for help on the DoS..
I didn't find this one bit ammusing when I got such e-mail... (Yes I supported them then and I support them now.. just not in spamming or DoS attacks)
So basicly Etoy picked it's help from amoung Slashdot posters.. I can only hope the majority of Slashdotters did not take part...
They hurt etoys.. yes.. but there are a lot of Slashdotters with a lot of band with...
As the Slashdot effect has proven it only takes a precentage of Slashdotters to do the damage by accadent.. it should take a smaller precentile to do it intentionally...
I don't know what Slashdotters at larg did.. I know I didn't take part and I know enough did to cripple E-toys dot com...

Domain names weren't inteded to be human readable.. Hence the ability to reg similer names.
When you go and get a busness name they cross check automaticly for similer names. It's not that hard to do... Domain names don't do it becouse it shouldn't be nessisary...
If you want to use your domain name as a busness mark you should do the cross checking yourself (as etoys Dot Com co clearly didn't do) and conferm that the name isn't allready in use.
It's pricy but if you want to do busness this way you need to grab up the smiler domains etc..
The obveous plural and non plural varents should have been checked early on and reged..
Anyway.. if you grab a domain after the fact then yeah you place your bumm in the crosshairs of some idiot...
Just a bit of trivia... anyone rember the mtv.com situation?
basicly a Video DJ at MTV regged the domain.. when he left mtv they wanted him to give up the domain.
See the problem? It became known as his machine.. not MTVs system.. they weren't even on the Internet yet...
Instead of trying to install a real name network and use it.. retrofitting the domain system is a problem...
I like how Netscape preforms a search... enter "mtv" and it searches for mtv.. Thats how it should be...
[I'm giving them long names to make them easy to read.. given my spelling it's the least I can do]
E-Toys Dot Com Co. was basicly worryed about the diffrence between E-Toys Dot Com Co and etoy projects and arts.
etoy projects and arts however was in busness first and has been in the Internet, games, etc feald longer than E-Toys Dot Com Co was...
Also the trademark E-Toys Dot Com Co was not in the area etoy projects and arts was.
E??? toys co did not approch the market etoy projects and artists did... They were not a "DotCom" or "DotOrg" or "Dot" anything...
However E-Toys Dot Com Co is at least expressing intrest in breaking into the arena where etoy projects and artists lives...
Given this would ferther irritate the situation it is up to etoy projects and artists to take action and force E-Toys Dot Com Co to get a new name and leave them alone.
On this same issue.. E-Toys Dot Com Co is losing money like many Dot Coms and may die.. however as has been proven.. If it's not dead yet you can often keep it alive with expensive medication.. in this case.. venture capital...
And rember kiddies.. there is a sucker born every min...
Questionable argument at best...
CEOs don't get fired for screwing up the budget even when they don't have a Union to blame...
However companys have threatonned to file for bankrupcy shortly after unionising...
To defend the unions for a moment.. thats generally due to a mix of issues.. the busness has more problems than just bad employee relations.. but the Union is entirely unsimpetheic and in protecting jobs ends up distorying the whole company.
There are times when other solutions need to be considered. Unions are a good blut force for employeers who aren't doing right. It's not allways the right solution.. but in some cases it's the only solution.. and in some cases it's the worst posable solution...
In the case of info-workers.. jobs do not need to be protected...

You know Slashdots not good on the moment of sillence... :) but you get the idea...
But it would be nice if we did have a "moment of sillence" day for this...
To rember all the historical horrors where we learnned ohh so much...
Hitler, The Space Shuttle, the Inquision, The witch trials, Microsoft, AoL, Amazon... ok I added Microsoft AoL and Amazon out of spite not out of anything to learn
Hmm what historical disaster would you add to the list (and no pulling the Microsoft, AoL, Amazon stunt I did... unless you add some real disasters...)
Etoy spammed Slashdot posters presenting support for etoy asking for help on the DoS..
.. worlds smallest violen playing my heart bleads for you.. I was more mad that I got spam...
In retrospect I was more annoyed about the spam than I was the DoS attack... The victom of the DoS was E-Toys... Ohhhh
But B won the first becouse it was around first..
A is trying to ferther confuse by entering into the same area B is known for...
