Yeah, but how are they going to enforce that? Having CD players, amps and all the Hi-Fi stuff use coded signals? That's not going to work because the public will never buy those!
Or buy adding tax on every computer, modem or whatever can be used to transfer music/films (like they did for the blank CD tax?) I don't think the PC manufacturers or users will accept that!
I think RIAA is fscked and that by going on that way, they will only loose more and more business. Funny how the claimed 20% loss started after Napster was killed!
I have not bought a CD from a non-independant label since... Same with going to the theater, I just stopped watching the crap they are trying to feed me! They are just hurting themselves by bringing all this bad publicity.

Ok, so after Napster, Morpheus/KaZaA, people will now use Direct Connect... Or usenet, or message with FTP upload/downloads.
When will RIAA and co understand that there is NOTHING they can do about P2P and data exchange!
Unless they manage to somehow stop the internet as we know it, but I don't think they can get away with that kind of murder...
I mean, Microsoft is not going to be able to break DirectX in a way that will only affect EA games on the PC. That's not possible! It's not like Microsoft using Windows to go after DrDos or using "secret" API to make MS-Office more integrated than WordPerfect, neither can Microsoft scare them by giving their concurent better deal like they can do with the OEM agreements to keep Dell, HP and Gateway in line...
Microsoft can't do a thing about EA, and EA as clearly stated they are going with PS2 (ie. they don't believe X-Box will win the console war) so I believe that by putting this statement out, they are only making the PS2 stronger which is good for them. EA would not make such a statement if it was not in their interrest to do so...
You won't have to leave the planet! Actually, the reason they wear coloured spandex clothes in space is because they were banned from earth for wearing those...
I think the worse (or best) if you consider the tie with toys, would have to be Master of the Universe. I can't believe of crap the series was, and how many toys they were selling...
But thanks for reassuring me about the fact that you don't think the cartoon was great! Makes me hope there is some sanity out there....;o)
MY GOD! Don't tell me some people really think that! I mean, can anyone seriously think that these cartoons are worth anything...
Anyway, if you are into that kind of thing, you should look over at X-Entertainment. There are some pretty funny revious of old cartoons over there (including Transformers and the incredibly stupid Master of the Universe)
Price of X-Box £300 Price of PS2 £270 Price of second hand PS2 Less than £200
And the price for PS2 is about to get get down worldwide from what I understand.
Now let's look at the games... (in the UK) The games for X-Box are a little more expensive and there is far less choice. What are the top games on X-Box? Halo? I am fed up of fps games! On PS2? Jack & Dexter, GT3, GTA3, Devil May Cry, MGS2, SSX, Fifa 2001... And most these games can be found 2nd hand (usually half-price)
1) is not the problem since X-Box is slumping in Europe as well...
2) I don't think back compability is that important now. It was 1-2 years ago, but now it is more that PS2 has got plenty of good games (most can be bought 2nd hand of rhalf the price)
The real reason? X-Box is more expensive and has less good games! Appart from the hardcore gaming fans (who already bought theirs) who is going to buy an X-Box right now?
If you go into a shop in the Uk, for the same price you have the choice between: PS2 with 5 games (with a choice among 100) X-Box with one game (with a choice among 10)
Just an add-on to make it absolutely clear that I believe the baby will be unhealthy. But it will be born and technically will be a clone (same DNA.) Like Dolly has proven there is still much we ignore about cloning and it's consequences. Life is more than just DNA and the women who participate in the experience are in for a big disappointment. They will get their baby alright, but this will be more of a Dr Frankenstein kind of story...
Yes, I should have made it more clear in my post. There is no way the baby is going to be healthy and there is still about 25% chance that it will not come to term.
I believe that you would have to be a monster to be willing to conceive a baby that way, and that you are surely headed for trouble (big time.) All I wanted to point out is that the chances very fairly good (about 75%) that this baby will come to term. But it surely won't be healthy!!!
Methink you have got you math and your figures wrong! The 1% success rate is for implant/early miscarriage... The actual success rate you want to use is 75%. This is IMHO a good chance.
Do you really think that at 8 weeks they would still have not detected big anomalie? He has 500 guinea pigs to play with. The 99% failures were seen on other people. You can bet there has been hundreds of early failure, miscarriage to get to that one 75% chance.
The failure rate was mostly failures to implant, spontaneous abortions as well as some very deformed births; mostly some that died in a few days, and some that were euthanised.
Well, I guess the failure to implant is not relevant anymore! So goes spontaneous abortion and deformed birth (you can do most viability tests at 8 weeks.) Remember, he has 500 women to 'play' with so I am sure he has got already is fair share of failure. But then, I agree about this not being ethical... The baby is most likely to be born with some anomalies (like Dolly has) and doing that to a human being is wrong. Just plain wrong!
Have you read the article? He has 500 women available for his experience! I am pretty sure he had his share of failure, miscarriage, abortion...
Nowhere is it said he has 100% rate, on the contrary. The first weeks are the one where he is most likely to have trouble, so after 8 weeks, chances are good that the baby is healthy and will get to term...
IMHO this makes sense on the server side for massive on-line role playing games. But they could also make reference here to a sort of P2P equivalent to share information about what is going on in the virtual world.
Or of course they could also be talking of having more than one CPU like on a SMP box. A bit like the GPU is taking load of the CPU...
Who knowns, it might even just be a marketing ploy.
It is going to take 4 weeks for the vote to be counted and apparently it is going to be very close.

Anyway, if I was still working for HP I would be rather pissed off at Fiorina taking some fat cash from the merger while 15000 employees are going to get the boot (and countless more were laid off by her policy). Especially since she is the one who would have got the boot if it wasn't for the merger!
First, no keeping records for long time. If there is a criminal activity, we should know within an hour at most. No need to keep the data longer and NO STORING Second, no monitoring or tracking using live data, this should be used to get proof or see what hapened afterwards, not used to track citizens

Here is an article of a company switching it's infrastructure to Linux planning to ditch 70 netfinity servers as well as 500 NT servers in the process. The cost of the 500 NT servers only should cover that of the mainframe.
But most their savings are due to improved scalability and easier maintenance (especially for disaster recovery).

And they buy it from people who are looting buildings? I always thought journalist to have low ethics anyway...
Instead of re-installing the PC, they decide to look at what is on it. Ok, I can understand that, but they must have spent quite some time looking at those files to determine that they were willing to spend five days to crack some of the encrypted files they found.
In other words, two american journalist pick up a PC (they had no reason to buy), and they happen to find Terrorist secret files on it. Sounds too good to be true. I don't buy it, it's a setup.
And now they use that to attest of the validity of the export restriction on encryption.
