These tiny little things have wonderful characteristics, for instance they're the biggest kind of matter that has shown wave behaviour. They probably don't have an use in this precise moment. Lasers started just like that: as a 'pointless' curiosity.
This is interesting: according to the poll, the group with the highest likelihood of believing in a God-guided evolution are the people with post-graduate studies, at 42%.
Think about it. 42% of all American PhDs believe something along the lines of intelligent design? That's news to me. But it makes sense, it's the best way to join religion and science.
Suppose that someone inherited from his father an Y-Chromosome without the "Manliness Gene". Then he would not have a functioning reproductive system and leave no offspring. The "Manliness Gene" can be lost by a random mutation, but the mutation will never be carried on to the following generation, unless a new sex-determining mechanism already exists.
As a Latin American and EU citizen, all I can tell you is... this is not new, get used to it!
Also, bear in mind that "US government" is not equivalent to "US people".
Hopefully this leads to people being able to put their children through Bokanovsky Process so that we no longer have to deal with mental diseases like Alzheimer's.
Occupy Wall Street in the beginning was the globalization of European Protests... I mean, Greece and Spain were on fire, with people fighting the police on the streets, many months before anything in America.
Exactly. Libero, using the unaltered latin root: liber, not libre.
What is the difference between LiberOffice and LibreOffice? They are both ugly names, but at least the first can be pronounced by anyone. You can even market it with a picture of the Statue of Liberty and sell it as the American Dream fullfiller... but nah, they stuck to their ideology...
Anything pronounceable in English would be great. They could have chosen a compromise like "LiberOffice", or anything. But the name LibreOffice could only have been chosen by people with absolute zero marketing experience.
You got it wrong. Your parent did not assert anything, it is therefore impossible to prove him wrong. He simply stated 3 facts. And actually, the OP has had 2 counter-examples that provet him wrong.
Do consider taking an online course on debate and argumentation.
Gmail was very successful with it's invitation system: it was elitist, and everyone ached to get in. But putting an invitation system into G+ was devastating. If the objective of a Social Network is to get in touch with everyone at any time, it's a very idiot move to restrict the creation of new accounts for no reason. They basically released a product that was useless, because they made sure there would be nobody to communicate with.
This could be understandable if it was their first shot at social networking; but Wave had the same problem and they did not learn from it.
It's ok to comment the news in the summary, but this has gone too far. "Apple is bad, you must hate Apple." Come on.
This has been tested experimentally. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_test_experiments
It already is in the U.S. It's called democracy. If 51% of the population wants this, they get it. They can be wrong, but it's their choice.

Is this slashdot?
And it was also covered by the BBC.
Heresy! How you dare! Alcohol has to be the one and only bad drug, otherwise you can't legalize pot... ... ... ...

The new certificate system will be invitation-only, and then will be shut down.

And in order to enforce the code verifying process, you'll be required a permanent internet connection... oh wait.
Why do you need immunity if you're not planning to do anything wrong?
There is an excelent Stanford course in youtube.

Suppose a Microsoft employee became a serial killer or a child molester, does it mean it's Microsoft's legal responsibility?

I already know db, so I'm taking the three of them. But I guess there's nothing wrong with trying.
If he adds a "how to escape" for each circle, then he did not read it. Virgil had to convince Charon to let them in...
