You know, a year ago I went to San Francisco for Macworld. So I go into this Starbucks (to be trendy; it didn't work), and they spilled a coffee all over me!!!
So.. I'm *glad* they've run out of power! I hope they rot in darkness!
It's totally the result of a terrible setup. It's not necessarily deregulation itself. I live in Pennsylvania, and we've been deregulating for the past two years. It's great! Never any problems. You can't blame increasing competition. What you *can* blame is doing it poorly, not being prepared, and not having contingency plans.
Oh, I have no interest in the stablity of Linux..
Nor the stability (or lack thereof) of NT..
I have no vested interest in their website..
I don't use MSN.
I don't know Bill Gates..
I've never bought a Windows box..
No, none of that.:-)
So why am I smiling?
Oh, I do so love to see Microsoft BURN!
QuickTime is WONDERFUL, and great to work with. Besides, it's growing faster than Real.. and *certainly* faster than Windows Media. Apple is great to work with. They'll help you out if you need it, and the technology itself is great. QuickTime is the standard in the media industry, and eventually in the streaming market as well I'm sure.
I've waited and waited for a PS2. I was going to use a $250 Best Buy gift card to purchase it. Well today I found out I probably won't be able to get one until March or April. So that's that! Sony doesn't need my money if they can't even distribute a product successfully. I'm not buying a PS2. I bought a DVD player (which was going to be the primary use of the PS2) instead.
I love the DVD player, it's great.
Oh PLEASE -- Girlfriend first, okay? Computer stuff second. "Mac OS X is bliss." I like it too but.. your girlfriend.. she's right there.. come on.. go see her.. please.. come on...
What on earth are you talking about? What has Apple fucked up often? ("has a tendancy to fuck up")
What products specifically are fucked up? ("and who admittly admit, that they fucked up")
Also, who taught you English? Not only did you spell admittedly incorrectly, you're redundant in saying -- admittly admit. That makes no sense.
What do you mean by "everything started taking longer [as soon as they made Jobs the CEO again]." What takes longer? You need to back up your statements, okay? Be specific.
Also, I don't think we're talking about Windows. You can use the Back button in your browser to re-skim the article. We're talking about Mac OS X as a possible threat to Linux.
If you require further assistance, you may e-mail me.
Don't speak for Mac users. I am a Mac user, and I can tell you we use the machine ENTIRELY for the OS! It's all about the OS. What the hell are you talking about? The only difference is that we see the machine and the OS as one, since they're so beautiful integrated. But you're *way* off.
Also, it's not the application we "can" use. We use applications we need.
And finally, it's not the interface we've "grown used to." It's the interface we've built and progressed with and loved to use for about twenty years.
Well, Playstation 2 (which I'm still trying to buy -- which are still selling out within an hour and only arriving every couple of weeks) has a DVD/CD player... Someone go stick in a CD-R audio CD and see if it plays the music....
The Mac isn't dying at all. This is a typical comment from some mindless Windows or Linux user. And anyway, why do you *care*? You people act like this is a holy war. Who cares? If you don't want a Mac, don't buy one. I, on the other hand, happily placed an order for 25 iMacs, 2 G4 towers and 4 iBooks for a computer lab a couple of months ago. I'm loving the technology, Mac OS X, Airport, and the stability.
Why don't you just not worry about the Mac, since you obviously don't know enough about it to see how far its come and how much it has ahead of it.
Dude, calm down:-)
Faster G4s are going to be in pretty short supply. Dropping Duals is necessary for right now, also due to inventory issues.
They'll be back.
A 733MHz G4 is still incredibly fast, so don't complain TOO much.
Just downloaded NS6 for my Mac. Wow. Quite an... interesting product. Thing is, I hate it. It's a bloated mass of browser. Resource hungry. Slow. And I can't decide if it's really sleak or horribly ugly. I like the idea of Themes, but Netscape has decided to completely disreguard Mac UI guidelines.
I hate IE5 on my Windows machine, but IE5 for the Mac is great. It's small, efficient, easy on the eyes, and great with web standards.
So far, NS isn't doing so well..
I've followed Gecko and Mozilla for about 10 years now (well it seems like it), and I've never been terribly enthused. They just don't got it.. and I have a feeling AOL is partially to blame.
I *love* the idea of an integrated AIM, but other than that.. blow!
Ok, I gotta get out of this browser before i go crazy...
A brief overview of the system of our Democracy....
It's late in the evening on Tuesday, November 7th, 2000. The word is in: Bush has won the popular vote, but it's clear that Gore has won the Electoral College.
Or has he?
The news runs over Reuters and is quickly picked up by the networks: the electorate looks like it's 269-269. A dead tie.
Quickly, Bush- and Goreheads move to persuade electors. But in December, the numbers are still the same: a dead tie.
The House of Representatives starts working on the Presidential election. Each state casts their single vote. The results are in: 25 states for Gore, 25 states for Bush.
Nobody's giving in.
Meanwhile, the Senate is arguing over who will be Vice President. Although the Democrats gained some seats in the Senate, its still Republican controlled. The Senate agrees: Cheney is their man for the Vice-Presidency.
The House is still bitterly arguing over the Presidency. It becomes clear they won't be able to make a decision.
Cheney is made President of the country until a new election can be held in the interim, a year later.
Cheney suffers his third heart attack and dies, however. The Secretary of State takes over the Presidency -- but he's a fat man, and he also has a heart attack.
Next up? Strom Thurman becomes President. He is 93 years old. He dies.
Anarchy. A breakdown of American government. Third party leaders move in and try to seize control of the White House. Foreign countries, catching us in our weakest moment, try to attack us.
Microsoft is burned to the ground, millions die, and Slashdot is taken offline, as our communications network is destroyed by the North Koreans and China.
The restof the world suffers an incredible Depression; God descends upon the earth and burns the wicked.
This decision should have been made by Sega years ago. Sega has always been great in the arcade but terrible with home consoles. Despite obvious success, Genesis was still hanging on by threads, and even Segaheads realized the Super Nintendo as a better product.
32X, Saturn, Dreamcast, etc. later...
All of those have been flops. Some worse than others, but all with the same result. Sega is going to be a much smarter and leaner company making great games for others. In fact, with its established brand name, it can instantly be the lead game maker.
And all the better for Sony. Yes, Sega is licensing out Dreamcast, but the threat of disenfranzhizing consumers with the Dreamcast's current brand name is serious and will affect the success of Dreamcast.
Additionally, there will be a stall period of a few months as new developers who wish to make Dreamcasts while they learn how it works and how to market it.
In the meantime, Sony will be making huge market share gains with PS2 (which people seem to really love), and by then it will be too late.
The only threat for Sega? If they faulter at all with their games, they're going to get serious flack for it by the media (wait, do game companies GET big press...?)
People *like* Sony. They're one of the few companies that's mkaing products that make you feel like you're part of something beyond the digital age. People are not sure what to think of Sega. They love Virtua Fighter, Sonic, and so on, but they've seen them misstep in the console market.
We'll have to wait and see..
Hopefully Sega will be able to tighten, focus, and kick ass in the game market.
I have a Playstation and I love it, but I never have time to play it all that much. I'm buying a Playstation 2 and I'm really excited about playing it -- but my real reasoning is that its a DVD player! Now I'll have a new big screen TV, Playstation DVD player, and a Power Mac Cube with a flat screen. I feel so... high tech and sleek!:-)
A cube without a monitor is $1799 - a monitor is $499 (starting)
There's a $300 rebate, so it about evens out.
My business also houses Dual G4s with Mac OS X.. It's wonderful
CompUSA devotes a big section of its store specifically just to Apple.
Circuit City is in the works of doing the same, only they'll devote
about a quarter of their store just to Apple.
Rumor says Apple is opening their own retail stores.
I've NEVER had trouble with CompUSA or The Apple Store. They're both
extremely supportive. People blast Apple for its Support staff, but
honestly I've never had a problem.
Just so people know, I bought a new Cube with 17" monitor and cost me $1799. Well worth it. It's not only absolutely beautiful, but it's incredibly fast.
As a big supporter of Linux, I suppose I'm not AS into aestetics... but when I see a little power icon on the top of the Cube, but not button, I go to press it and suddenly it's glowing (i can't tell from where!) -- well, I'm very impressed. I'm finding these "Stupid Apple design details" really make it wonderful. People say, we don't need Tangerine iBooks! I want something dull!
Well you know what? My work can be pretty dull, and when I go and look at this beautiful machine that's ALSO very fast and very ahead of its time (OSX), I'm pretty damn inspired to produce some beautiful code.
It's not for everyone, but it's definately for me, and a few million other people.
I'm running Mac OS X Public Beta on the Cube and I really love it. Yes there are some quirks, but it's just so amazing and a lot can happen between now and January.
I can't stand Mozilla... I really can't.. I'm sorry, but it's just.. loose code.
And I hate to say it...
But I really like Mac IE 5.5..
::ducks!::
I tried out the new Mozilla Milestone xxxxxxxxx, and I dunno.. it just isn't a very tight browser. Didn't crash, but.. I'm just not excited about it. And as for Netscape 6... heh. Good job AOL... yeah........
I'm all about opensource.. but Mozilla's a joke. Anybody agree with me? Am I being too harsh? Iknow it's a massive project.. but maybe that's the problem. You know, Apple dumped 1000 engineers on Copland in '94/95 and it went nowhere. But it took 125 developers to make Mac OS X(which I'm runnin and lovin!). Maybe Mozilla is OVER-engineered?
You know, a year ago I went to San Francisco for Macworld. So I go into this Starbucks (to be trendy; it didn't work), and they spilled a coffee all over me!!!

Chill. Taco's point was simply that *everybody* is talking about this -- when in reality, who really cares?
:-)
The problem has been happening since Tuesday. The world picked up on it today. Even CNBC was talking about it for a while.
GOOD GOD! FUN FOR THE HILLS!
Who cares?
And I hate microsoft.com. I literally haven't visited it in over 6 months. Of course... I'm a Mac OS X user, so...

lol! But it's pathetic they put SO much effort into it :-)
Please Apple, start making PDAs again! You invented them -- why can't you continue to make them? Please please please!
Still in denial,
Chris

Nope - when the House decides a President, they leave it to the 50 states all with one vote. House members don't vote for it, so you can still tie.

I love seeing Apple links, but you're right -- that was really strange. There's only one mention of Apple in the article. (search Apple+)
Strange, strange, strange...
Must be Bill Gates' hackers!
