No, cheating in single player mode does NOT get you banned. It's allowed, been implemented and done.

Cheating to get ACHIEVEMENTS however, is an entirely different matter. Since you're bypassing the built-in system that when you cheat (which can be a hell-lot-of-fun) achievements are disabled for you ... It's honestly not _that_ hard to see the difference between those two.

Sure, they're losing marketshare in general, but sales keep going up in numbers, they haven't slowed down. Hardly something I would worry about.

Also, because Android happens to be on a bunch of phones people use, doesn't mean it's 'winning' any sort of battle. The battle is entirely up to the fans if you ask me, Apple doesn't much care, their sales are going up. And working as a consultant in a couple of large corporations, people will have either a Blackberry and be happy, an iPhone and be happy/wanting a Blackberry or an Android-based mobile and not caring. The people in the last category don't really know they use the 'competitor' to iOS, it just 'happened to be' on the phone they got from IT when they picked it from a selection. I've yet to meet a non technical profile who conciously chose an Android based phone. Whereas I meet tons who consciously chose an iPhone or Blackberry ...

The whole Android - iOS debate is pretty senseless in the way that Apple doesn't see declining sales numbers, people who use Android based phone (generally) don't know they do, unless they're techie (and trust me, you're in the minority) and the marketplace _really_ is big enough for Android, iOS and RIM to coexist ...

Personally I have an iPhone, which I enjoy using. I wouldn't care if I were given a Blackberry or an Android based phone instead. Most people wouldn't.

  9. IT interships in Belgium on What Can I Expect As an IT Intern? · · Score: 2, Interesting

In Belgium all Bachelor IT studies have an intership in the last half year or year before graduating.

They're unpaid, though included in your schooling so no harm done there. In most of the cases the interns are hired as full employees. For companies this just is common sense. They shorten the official trial period a new employee has to go through by the duration of the intership.

The company where I work now I was able to get promoted a year before schedule, and since I worked here 3 interns were hired as employees, 2 more interns will start in Q1/2010 and those will likely be hired when they finish their internship (assuming they don't screw up ;))

I don't know about the US of course, but taxes on employees is ridiculously high in Belgium, so a 3 or 6 months free employee is a great way to start their training and put them on new projects where the technology still has to be discovered. This then gives the intern a step up on other people as they spent their internship exploring and working with the new technology, without being bothered by a full planning with regular work on clients.

  11. Memory management? on Windows Drains MacBook's Battery; Who's To Blame? · · Score: 1

I've used both Macs and Windows machines for quite a while now, though I always used a Mac in my private life. I'm in IT, so not using a Windows machine is simply not an option in many cases.

However, at home, ever since I started using iTunes and Mac OS X I noticed that when no sound is playing from my laptop (first a Powerbook, then a Macbook) it started zooming. This was probably because my stereo wasn't properly grounded at the time. As soon as the computer made noise however, it stopped. If I turned on iTunes it stopped! When the album I was playing was finished, it started up again.

I've always guessed that this is because of the way Mac OS X will manage memory. If something isn't used, why bother supplying power to it? Since, interestingly, this phenomenon doesn't occur when I boot up Windows XP or Vista, meaning power is always supplied to a jack not used.

If they turn off many other things 'not used' atm and switch them on as soon as a cable is detected or something similar, imagine how much power you could save ...

    Just a thought.

Yes, and "postnatal" is commonly referred to what happens to the mother after her child is born (like a postnatal depression) whereas the correct medical term is "postpartal". Since of course "postnatal" mean "after birth", not "after giving birth"...

The mother is not born, the child is. A postnatal depression is the depression of the baby, after being born (and it does happen). "Postpartal" means after seperation (from the child), and is the correct term.

But after thousands of wrong uses because postnatal makes more sense it is now adopted as correct, instead of postpartal.

The original meaning of words and abbreviations changes over time. A PC is a Windows computer to 99% of the world, so a PC is a Windows computer, regardless the original intention of the abbreviation. Language lives and evolves just like everything else.

Recently however, a new company surfaced offering low prices (30 euros / month) for a 100 Gb / month limit and a normal price (50 euros / month) for an unlimited connection. This new ISP is limited to a very small region in Belgium though, the services they offer outside their home city is similar to the other ISP's (more max download/upload, less speed).

There is however no throttling, an almost 100% uptime (varying on location of course, but if you live anywhere near a city you can expect uptime of 100% ... Me I've never had my internet go down, and when I do play a game I tend to get a ping between 20-25 so it's all about what's important to you I guess.

Most ISP's offer a nighttime discount too. Everything you download/upload between midnight and 10 AM only goes half towards the download limit.

Also, the default option if you cross your limit is not to make you pay extra per Gb, but to put you on "smallband" which is (if I remember correctly) 64Kbit Up/Down. In other words: hell compared to the 20Mbit / 2Mbit (Down/Up) we usually get. You can change that default option to paying extra for Gbs of course ...

Also I'd like to point out that Belgium is the only country in Europe where there is no viable option to choose for an ISP without transfer limit.
