That would certainly help, but from my experience at universities, it seems that bandwidth expands to whatever your capacity is. Funny, I remember at my universiy we doubled the bandwidth coming in and out, and within several months we were back up to nearly 100% saturation. It never stops!
When I first thought of a sunken city, I immediately thought of that city where jar jar binks lives in star wars. i hate that mother f**ker. god, now the whole article pissed me off because i had to think of jar jar. i swear i would love to rip his testacles off and see if that makes his voice less annoying.
I wish you would read at least some of the article. he clearly states that the system is for passengers while he is driving, not to fuck with when he is driving. any person that has a brain knows that would be very dangerous. if i were a passenger, i would love to play wolfenstein while on a roadtrip.
Actually, you couldn't have more karma that one could possibly imagine. There is a karma cap.

I agree with you. I don't want a shirt that just says "geek", "uberhacker", or "perlmonger". I want something witty, funny, but still socially acceptable to wear to work (i.e. I won't get fired).

Yes, the possibilities ARE endless, when you take out the [cathode ray] tube out of a cathode ray tube.
yes, I know what you meant.:)
I totally agree with you. While new phones might be cool and ABLE to access the internet (limited as they may be), the existing cell network was not designed to this, and as anyone knows who has surfed the web on a phone or similar device, it SUCKS. When they come out with a network with decent speeds for data, then things like this will b worth their price.
I used to have a net-enabled phone. I found it so worthless I stopped using it. Everytime I tried to access something, it just takes forever. I have settled with the Motorola P935 Two-way pager/pda and am much happier.
Uhh... first of all it's not out yet, so it probably hasn't been hacked, second, I (and I think most people) don't care what OS my phone/pda uses as long as it is easy to use and intuitive.
An operating system is just a platform. Who care's about the platform on something that only has a few functions? personally I would rather have it run Palm OS rather than linux because I know Palm has a very nice and stable OS, and there are tons of programs for the Palm. Why you would put linux on something like this is beyond me.

While I completely agree with your assessment of slashdot's UI, you can imagine what a fit everyone would have if they changed the UI. Even the little OSDN NavBar was a big deal to some people (even though it's optional).
There are a lot of people on slashdot who are very resistant to change and like it how it was "in the good ol' days".
So, as much as I would like slashdot to change, I feel the "look" of slashdot is as much a part of slashdot as the posts, the chronic mispellings and grammar problems, the errors made, the trolls, etc. It's not the best, but we have come to like it.
I like your idea though, and it would be cool to have an "optional" interface where you would get the same content, but you would choose your interface. Hell, people could even make their own slashdot "skins" that would plugin to slashcode and view slashdot however they want.
Do what I did (if you are a RtCW gamer). It takes less than 5 minues, and you will feel good about it.
Go to their web site. Go to the "Contact" page, and send them an email thanking them for their contribution. I know if I was a developer, and I got a few emails saying thanks, it would really be a nice thing. So, say thank-you from the Linux community. They didn't have to do this, they chose to.
I confess, I have selectivitus too. I have been selecting (highlighting) test as I read in web browesers for as long as I remember. I thought I was the only person who did this. I think it helps me remember where I am in the page, despite the negative color shifting. Band together, selectors!
"Sen. Ron Wyden, Democrat of Oregon, who favored the simple extension, said Americans don't want to be taxed when they log on the Internet for their news, weather and sports."
That may be, but I really think that most Americans don't want to be taxed when they "log on" the Internet for their pornography.
On a side note, does "Internet" really need to be capatilized anymore?
Is not a contraction. You have been warned. Carry on your way, nothing to see here. You hear the sirens drift to silence as the grammar police drives away in their patrol car.

I don't know. But I keep coming back and one day I may find out exactly who the crack dealer is that doles out the crack for the moderators. All we have to do is follow the trail.
Thank you for setting him straight. What a dumbass. Perhaps knowing about what which you talk would be good advice for him. My brother is a civil engineer, and just from talking to him, I knew this guy was full of crap. You can't just "render" a bridge and get an 'intuitive' look at it. There is a TON of effort into building something like that.
Let's say you were an history buff, and you were an expert on pyramids. Well, the pyramid is a triangle when viewed two-dimensionally, so you would have less wasted space with a triangular windows.
As far as circle windows, perhaps tire manufacturers would like this?
ok, let's be honest. Whoever modded that up as insightful is just an idiot. On a 2D display, the rectangle windows is the only way to go in 99% of the applications. Wow, what a stupid idea.
I remember way back in the day, I thought KDE was an unstable, showy piece of crap. I think a lot of us did. A lot of us didn't even consider KDE over Gnome on our linux box. And I think it is safe to say, and many will agree, that KDE really has done an outstanding job - and that in a relatively short period of time. The screen shots look beautiful, and I wish continued success to the KDE team.
I think several years ago if I would have placed a bet on which GUI would succeed, I would say Gnome. Now, I wouldn't bet on either - I think both are excelling in their own way. Gnome seems to be the accepted choice that the commercial Unixes are going with, while KDE is doing a fine job of fulfilling the desktop wants and needs, and looking cool at the same time.
Hats off to the KDE team - their contribution is taken for granted every time you login to your pretty KDE desktop. KDE, thank you.

True. I stand corrected, albeit even though your statement is only true for a small percentage of the /. population.

Polls don't belong in comments. They belong in the... poll section. You're not funny. It wasn't funny the first time in the 3com article.

How then you now are now besides?
I like to correct grammar of other people to make myself feel better.. My posts usually have >3 typos, so don't feel bad.
Thank god. My quotation mark button has nearly warn off. Thank you for letting me know!
