None of those are done by a judge, which is what people are unsure of as being allowed.

re: driving ban - its one by NASCAR or antoher governing body, not a judge.

re: gov't - it again that you are, for example, guity of a felony or do something illegal. THAT precludes you from some civil service. But can a judge straight out rule: you cannot be in government.

as I will admit I dont know the answer, I just dont think your examples prove anything in response to this issue.

The governement cant always stop people (or itself) from breaking the law, but the law should still apply equally to both.

In both examples you gave, if the governement was held responsible (or the people in gov't who caused it to happen) in the same way that individuals were, it would not reflect negatively on us Americans. The issue here is what to do about the law.

In another unrelated point, I believe this does not relate to the Lotto, but rather to gambling games which many people responsibly enjoy, whether winning or losing money. No one is saying to make alcohol illegal because some people become alcoholics.

So, as long as its an individual person or company who is ruining someone's life its OK. It just shouldn't be Big Brother.

so have it online - or sell a physical book that goes with the game to people who are that obsessed with the particular game. Many DVD's have just one leaf in there as a "manual, description" often full of ads, even that is unnecessary. And the box itself should have artwork if you are in such dire need. I question their motives but I think its a good move to remove unnecessary fat from the product.

  22. interactive art on Roger Ebert On Why Video Games Can Never Be Art · · Score: 1

a very poor definition of art. I have seen many installations that respond to the watcher. There was a great one at the MOMA in NYC where you walked down a hallway and the projection changed from a springtime scene to one of fall/death/winter/armgeddon like landscape as you moved. This work is nothing more than an interactive game with no way to win (this is the point I think he gets caught up on, a game must have a way to win, and points, etc). The difference between this work of art and a more complicated game is the context (in a museum) and the limited play (all you can do is make it run fowards or backwards in "time"). I respect his views, but I think he needs to play some games and experience some art outside of film (a form of art I DO think games are approaching)
