Whether or not it was accidental is practically irrelevant. Whether or not it was useful is especially irrelevant. The fact stands that Google collected private data.
To exemplify this, imagine walking by an open book which you understand to be my private journal, and taking a peek without regard to that fact. My private property, my private "data". Whether or not you can use the line you copied from my journal, you have violated my privacy. And probably pissed me off, no matter how little you copied onto a pad in your pocket.
I am posting for the second time today to say thank you, and bravo. A lot of people miss the big picture, and see just the argument. The fact is, its _people_ arguing. And we know that people like to argue, whether or not they're right. Therefore, I grant you special kudos, and hope you have/had a brilliant Saturday.
Religion is used to fervently oppose science by those uneducated masses who understand neither their own religion or science. Honestly this is where in my experience those who are pro-science and anti-religion get their frustration with religion from.
We the religious people concur. A lot of the people in my church meetings are right there with you. The problem isn't necessarily the religion or following itself. Nine out of ten times, it'll be the idiots that follow it religiously(hardy-har har). I think there's actually an XKCD that's goes here - http://xkcd.com/385/. Basically, the individual people should be blamed for shortcomings and failure, rather than the structure/organization they belong to. After all, I don't think religion is even the cause - if you put the same incompetent people to work in the scientific community, who knows what kind of damage they could cause? It all comes down to people, as usual. We can be pretty stupid.
Joke #1: You mustn't have been worth anything. Joke #2: Were you talking about BASIC? Joke #3: Obviously you're lying, as an AC is never wrong. I love trolling/. .
I see your analysis and raise you another. While 'fuck' is just a word, there is meaning behind that word. Usually, people say it when frustrated. For example - "What the fuck is with the censoring?!". At that point, its no problem at all. Like you said, most people wouldn't think a thing of it. However, it does become a problem when your six year old brother tells your 40 year old mother to "Fuck off!". Why? The only real reason curse words are left out of upperclass vocabularies is to keep the situation civilized and in control. 'Fuck', used in pretty much any way, is just a way to say "I'm pissed, hear me roar". Express your displeasure, in an old man's words. Which raises the question to me - should I care?
Making it illegal to detect and record open-air RF is like making it illegal to see things.
That's a terrible analogy. First of all, I don't care how many times you detect my WiFi network. Just don't go poking around. To put that in perspective - I don't have a clip-lock on my journal. Sure, look at the cover, I couldn't care less. But flip a page open? Whether on not I should have locked it is just pork for an argument. Yeah, you're right - I should have. But you've violated my privacy, whether or not you gain or do something with the information you accessed. But then you go a step further - you archive the two sentences you read, just in case they'll be useful to you.
NOSE OUT.
That's the difference. You made a conscious decision to violate my privacy. And as the GP stated... that's illegal.
While it may not have any inherent value, here's a purpose it served for me - disposable decoy. With LimeWire in a legal headlock, the other, much more useful programs, protocols and services are going to come under attack now.
A radio program is broadcast with the intention of being heard. However, I believe you'll find that most, if not all, private wifi are created with intention of being private.
If pointless, also necessary. Reading every comment til this point, I was thinking of posting the exact same thing. The arguments sprayed across this page are 85% opinion based, and nobody's gonna change their own.

Don't be afraid! I'll join you in your lonely and down-modded journey.
I have to point out the same thing as an AC below me - why haven't you done this, then? Does not compute, embodied.

Half of them at least. England sees things differently, after all. Damn Brits...
Obviously this is a lie, as couples and girls do not exist on /. .
Mr. Suit... Thank you. I should like to shake your hand.
Liar! The two are fully interchangeable - they kill people just as quickly as the other.
"...I don't know why she swallowed the fly. Perhaps she'll die."
Wait, are you suggesting that the anti-piracy industry is going to eat a horse and blow up?!
With the proper alterations, I can make your mother seem saintly.
Yeah, I just don't see it happening.

In half? Or do you mean, get it stoned? Explain!
You're forgetting the mumptions bud. Never forget the mumptions...
In Soviet Russia - ah, screw it.

Why the hell haven't they defrosted Powers yet then?!
Sealing up the whole?! Oh gosh, no! We only want to seal up part of it!
I think you're going a little overboard there bud. It was valued at $8500, I recall...

Words have meaning, but amusing names might not. Despite the identifying acronym, WINE does in fact provide an emulation process.
