I took her statement thusly: At one time you could re-sell anything that you legally obtained even if copyrighted, but today you cannot sell *anything* that is copyrighted even if legally obtained. Since books, DVDs, etc are copyrighted but you can re-sell them, her statement, the way it written seems rather inaccurate to me.
You could also re-sell anything protected by copyright law that you lawfully purchased without any strings. Neither is true today...
If that is so, how come I was able to resell some books to a used book dealer a few weeks ago? And every time I go out I see one or two stores that deal solely in second hand console games, dvds and audio cds.
I've had Sprint since 2002 and a smartphone with them since '07. Their network has never failed me and I only ever seem to lose signal in areas you'd expect there to be none (I hike/camp in the middle of no where a lot).
Meanwhile I can't go a few days w/o hearing a coworker or friend bitch about AT&T's network (and these aren't just iPhone users).
+1 for the on/off widgets. I can unplug my Sprint Hero one morning and won't plug it in for two days. Why? I shut off wifi, BT, 3G radios while I'm at work or home (or anywhere else with a computer that is online).
It's great to have those features when I'm on the go, for directions, look up restaurants, etc. but it makes little sense to me to let them drain my battery all day downloading my emails, sync with Twitter, etc., when I read them on my computer anyway.
The university I work for (still here fixing PC's @ 8:20pm - 12 hours!) gets it for free for beta testing their client and server. I believe we're not the only Uni that has this sort of deal.
In Apple's case, doing it right has as much to do with making it look, feel and fit with the other tasks the system performs as it does with engineering it under the hood.
Three times in this last week I've tried to use a cross-walk with the light saying I had to right of way only to almost be hit by some twat blowing through while gabbing on their phone.
Having a cellphone is a privilege, not a fucking right. The right, in this case, is for me to be able to go about my life and not get run over by some self-serving ass.
10-15 years ago before everyone had one, society still worked pretty OK. What's changed? Only people's perception that they're that important they need to be reachable every second of the day.
With services being integrated into TVs and being able to get home theaters streaming from a file server, I don't doubt a dedicated console will disappear from living rooms. The games will still be there, but they will be loaded on your server/computer and allow you stream them to whatever room you're in. Sort of like a localized OnLive.
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo will try to keep you locked into their platform, but that will only last a generation or so longer. I can see Steam becoming even bigger and integrating the streaming play, locking others in a different room out while you're logged into your account (unless they have an account of their own).
What a bullshit answer. The Stuff That Matters tag is being contorted to include crap. This effects only a TINY ass proportion of/. readers who largely come here for geeky, sciency, tech news. It's like Congress and the 10th Amendment. Make it fit whatever the agenda is for the moment.
Next we'll be opening issues of Autoweek and read Martha Stewart tips for keeping your rain gutters clear./. is seriously walking around in the dark and seems to have little editorial direction, granted it's always been that way to some extent, but the last couple years have seen it slide even more into irrelevance. And then to ask people to pay for it with a subscription, bah.
Realize we in the U.S. have our own special gallon. ~3.8L compared to the imperial 4.5L commonly used across the pond. They are paying more "per gallon" with a larger measure on what a gallon is.
I have to say, and this echoes to others comments, that if you DON'T know DOTA, HON may not be the place to put in your time.
I have had a beta key since last summer (when they were being given out by/.) and the community has made it so I have not played in 4-5 months. In HON, matches that are flagged for noobs are loaded with assholes that will trash you mercilessly when they realize you in fact are a noob. I had heard of DOTA, but not owning or having interest in buying W3, I never played it, thus I had no knowledge of what to do and was treated like a piece of garbage.
There is a fun game in there somewhere, and I would really love to support S2 for supporting Linux. Unfortunately their community ruined those chances.
Maybe it's because I'm reading V for Vendetta right now, but I'd imagine in such a NWO he'd be one of the first people shot behind the chemical sheds. They wouldn't want "radicals" trying to destabilize things, would they?
In a fairer world, this wouldn't have been SCO, a corporate entity run by untouchable, soulless trolls. No rather, IBM, Novell, etc would be able to go after Darl and the other hucksters for their frivolous bullshit.
Unfortunately, C*O's are treated like untouchable, OMG society would cease to exist w/o them Gods and protected from behaving like complete fuck ups and for this kind of behavior.

Frankly for most people the existing 'HDTV' resolution has more than enough pixels
Yeah and 640k was enough for everyone.
1983: Woz returns to Apple after his plane crash. Steve Sculley becomes CEO of Apple
1985: Steve Sculley fires Steve Jobs
1987: Woz quits Apple
In this time frame, Jobs didn't have control of Apple. How did he push Woz to the side?

The "Apple wants it back link" takes me to a College Humor Video that seems to have nothing to do with Apple?
RedHat, is ... the only company that's making money doing that.
Not entirely true. There are small consultancies I have dealt with that only deal with OSS which are doing wonderfully. Even in this crappy economy.
Then post all your already read e-mails to the Internet.
Held to a countries regulations. Oh wait, they had to pass FCC testing here too. Big whoopie fucking do.

I formatted it with a bootable Ubuntu installation image!

Simple fix...
Replace Google with Dell circa 1995 when their stock was bouncing between 50 cents/1 dollar and sell around 2000 when it was ~60 dollars
Harder fix...
Building the fuckin' time machine so you can actually do any of it

Unless this class is taught online, what does it have to do with YRO?
Hey /., stop trying to be reddit or digg. plz. k. thx.

...a time vortex doesn't have smoke...
Traveled through a few time vortexes have ya?
I've not been impressed with it on any platform as all it does is crash whenever I attempt to import my music library.
HON if your willing to put in the time

Oracle, MS and others change the licensing to require a charge per core.
