Frankly you should quit bitching. You're the one who decided to put up with that fiasco for as long as you did. You should have gone outside or read some damn books.

Frankly, I've gotten sick of crap customer service so when a company, be it bank, cell provider, or even a gas station pisses me off, I don't throw my phone but tell them why I won't be using their service anymore. Even when it is just to some 10/hr Community College student, I feel better.

You should see the freebie offers I get addressed TO ME, not just current resident. It's actually funny/sad knowing they are spending the money and not getting me back, no matter how hard they try.

That's some all or none thinkin' for ya right there boys.

Personal privacy and "information wants to be free" are two concepts focusing on the same goal but applied in different ways. In both cases the idea is freedom for the individual:

Personal privacy, ie., keeping the Feds from monitoring when I eat, sleep, pee and why I went to a doctor, allows for freedom from persecution, misuse of power, and allows me to live my life making decisions that work best for me.

"Information wants to be free" or at least how I view the term, means having access to empirical knowledge, yes software too, etc., so I can empower myself to live my life making decisions that work best for me.

Something like this *will* be abused. How many "social" programs run by local/state/federal agencies work 100% of the time? Yeah that's right, none. And most barely function at all.

If they really want to be serious about helping mental health patients they should fund free clinics and educational programs and let society do as it will. Of course that would smack closer to socialism. Oo so bad.

The thing that kicks ass to much about the iPhone is the effort Apple has put in to designing the UI to REMOVE much of complication from doing things. It takes half a dozen key presses do anything other than get to the contacts list or open a text message on most phones.

I'm all about function over form and function is where Apple kicks ass. That said, there is no way I'm going to switch to Cingular/AT&T whatever. Among wireless providers, they can kiss my arse. If Verizon hadn't turned down Apple I might have switched to them. Oh wells. I should say I only stuck with Sprint after leaving because I have a cheap plan with everything included.

But these systems are buried on their site and unless you know what you're looking for, granny w/o a nerd relative to ask probably will end up with a shiny new MS system anyway. Plus the Ubuntu boxes have no modem and lower end graphics. Since Dell is more like Apple and sells hardware, might that not have more impact on the final price? If John and Jane Doe want to start a new business they still have a HUNDRED more ways to get Ubuntu PC's than going with Dell. If granny needs the bare minimum, buy her a used computer and put Ubuntu on it. There no money went to Dell *OR* MS. And you kept someone's old junk out of the dumpster (but to granny it's brand new.) Don't get me wrong, to an extent this is groovy news. But it seems like a lot of the radio chatter after this was announced is all about pointing and laughing at MS. How many machines are sold through Best Buy/Circuit City/Wal*Mart that DON'T have Linux? It's not like MS is going out of business.
