    Books are still paper, at least old ones. I can't stand staring at displays trying to read screenplays I find. If it weren't 100+ pages most time I'd print them off.

    I like books as they are. Hopefully e-books don't catch on.

    Just think how much money Blockbuster has been saving on DVD's. Now instead of having to buy expensive high quality VHS copies they can spend as little as 5 bucks on some movies and get DVD quality.

    Unless of course there's some back alley deal they have with the MPAA I don't know about. After all it's them they're buying those expensive tapes from. hmm

    i was surprised by the size of my socket 478 p4 i bought a few months ago, but that was b/c it was so small. it was smaller than the p200mmx it was replacing!

    btw if anyone is looking for a good DDR board for a p4 and don't wanna pay alot (sub 100) then I recommend the ECS P4S5A. Toms Hardware had a happy review and I'd have to say I agree with everything they said. (But you'll have to dig for it yourself :)

    It's not an overclockers board but I just wanted a good stable board which it is. it uses the SiS 645 chipset as the northbridge and a VIA chipset for the southbridge.

    That's not meant as a flame. I'm just curious why they chose Linux instead of a BSD. I don't exactly care to follow the licensing terms behind all the different open/free software so I'm unaware if that's an issue, but using a BSD would seem to be a wiser choice being that they're "trying" to get an OS X on x86.

    I dunno.

    I don't understand these companies, no matter what their issue is, doesn't anyone of them realize that if they were to wire this place with a solid infrastructure and decent rates they'd make a killing? People would sign up just to sign up. I mean sweet Jesus in a smokin' birch bark canoe! We're the US! We blow so much money on shit that's hip/today/tech./pop/and whatever other word you can add it's absurd.

    Come on someone pull yer head outta yer ass and realize you could be making BILLIONS ...even if you have to get into a large partnership to make it hurt less.. come on it just boggles my mind. anyway

    i run slack 8 as a gateway/firewall on a p100 with something like 90 mb of ram and i use a p200 as a simple email/ftp setup with 128 mb of ram (slack 8 again). that p200 use to be my main machine and it ran slack 8 even with kde2 just fine

    on the price end of things if you take out the 100 I spent on a visiontek geforce 2 i spent less than 400 on a 1.6 ghz p4 and an ecs board that uses ddr ram (512 mb to boot), sans new hdds that i already had

    My old school district is about 45 miles from the city but there were companies that had fibre laid years ago. When I graduated and started working for the district we came up with a plan to lease bandwith from those companies.

    Obviously I don't know your whole situation but look around and see if there's a company in the immediate area that already has broadband access.

    Well this is the abridged version of a longer statement I just typed out, but IE crashed when I hit preview. (I'm not at my computer right now...grrr)


    I just started thinking about working on a OS or at the very least a UI that's designed precisely the way I want it and tweaking it as much as I can for my own x86 hardware. (Sorta like what Apple does, they sell limited hardware configurations and work on the compatibility.)


    However, I'm not an extremely experience programmer, I know C well enough and Python but don't have the real world experience, yes I'm basically just a script kiddie. So I'm looking for resources anyone might think would be beneficial to my cause. If you know of a book or online resource, feel free to reply.

    I was talkin' to a friend of mine who has a firm grip on reality without feeling the need to attend each protest held across the planet. Our final realization for the night was that 80% of the people (gross generalization and most likely a way off guess but *shrug*) don't seem to give a shit as long as they get to work, get paid, have food on the table for their family and can go on a cruise every summer. This hasn't yet bit them on the ass and until it does then it's going to remain.


    If the true majority of the population in this country actually followed these headlines and knew what they were going on about surely (I like to hope at least) the DMCA would not be in existence and this FTAA thing would get shutdown faster than a all you can eat when that sumo guy from the Am. Ex. commercial is in town.


    I digress.
