I know this article is old and you probably won't read this, but I'm going to correct you anyways. Gates didn't bail out Apple. 125 Million dollars is nothing to a company like Apple. The iMac saved them. Thats all.
That $125M was about Quicktime/WiMP legal stuff that is undisclosed. It was a out-of-court settlement.
This is completely off-topis, but karma is for fools.
I enjoyed Dude, Where's My Car.
Not every movie has to have some epic tale, oscar winning acting and million dollar effects.. Sometimes all they need is a smoking dog. Heh heh, smoking dog.
Maybe this can be used as a venue for those who want to discuss the update.
Actually there are a number of accounts that this update causes more harm than good. If this is your main site for Mac news it would be then seen as an excellent place to talk about the new security update.
It may not be news, but to every Mac user here it is something that will affect them.
I can understand the case of Nissan vs Uzi Nissan, because to 99.9999999999999% of the world's population, "Nissan" is a car maker. There's no confusion here.
Popularity should have zero grounds on these terms. Uzi Nissan registered nissan.com for his computer company before Nissan tried to. Nissan Computers is a legitimate commercial american company with the name Nissan. They have the complete right to the domain nissan.com.
Just because the car company is bigger and more people reconize them as Nissan doesn't mean that they have instant rights to the domain.
Fuck, if they want that domain bad enough they should pay Uzi Nissan what ever he wants for it (there has to be a price for something like this). If they can't get it, well too fucking bad. They don't deserve any additional rights to something.
Reminds me of the not so old saying....
Mac users swear by their computers. Windows users swear at their computers.

Get your facts straight.
How they expect anyone to take their statistics seriously is beyond me.
Who, the RIAA's or The Register's?
(ba-dum-bum-cha!)
please remind me which one of them is the 'indy group'.
I was wondering the same thing myself....
At the college I attend and am about to complete (one week left baby) they force many of their students to have laptops.
It costs $800 CDN a term to lease a ThinkPad from them and at the end of your schooling you have the option to buy the computer you were using.
So after spending $4800 CDN ($3,075.94 USD) we have the privilage to purchase a laptop that is a few years old for "a low price".
IE 6 doesn't inherit very well. Whats the point of CSS (cascading style sheets) if they won't inherit?
Until they do, Mozilla (and therefore Chimera) is tops.

Okay, I'm about 20 mins into it, and I will admit, its getting pretty cool.
As someone actually listening to it right now, I think I can safely say "No, you don't want to hear it."
Its the 9th symphony stretched out to 24 hours. Think about it.
And yet, it still plays in the background.
That's mostly because the clones had a superior product at a lower price...
The clones also brought on more hardware errors than any Apple I've ever owned. You always get what you pay for.
There have been a few "incidents" with this update but all in all it seems to be fine.
For your education.

I'd agree, but I really enjoyed playing Monkey Island 3.
Now, Monkey Island 4 was piss poor....
On another topic, I hate shit like:
"...equal to 87,000 paperback books."
My mother in law knows what a gigabyte is. I think it's safe to stop with the point-of-reference crap.
Actually, the most understood way would be to say "Can hold 174,000 songs that you haven't paid for."

Apple does. Its Quicktime Pro with the additional MPEG-2 decoder. I don't know the exact cost for it but I think its around $45.
you can still find invisible files, but now you just have to tell the find app thats what you want to do.
(just like find from os 8 and 9)
and not part of the Sun chain (which is crap)
While I do agree with you, I am under the belief that The Star actually owns The Sun.
I bet I can find 15 people who love XP, OS/2, AmigaDOS, ColecoVision, Mincemeat pie, sweaty gym shorts, beastiality, etc, etc.
I think I could only find one guy who loves sweaty gym shorts enough to testify about it.
Ahhh, touche.
Your missing a ";".
The fabled G5 is the next generation chip from Motorola, Apple's current supplier of G3 and G4 chips.
Sorry, but you're wrong. IBM currently supplies Apple with the G3s (for the iBook). Motorola only supplies Apple with the G4s.
The Gn style of naming is Apple's doing. Motorola and IBM use names like PPC 750 or PPC 7440.
If Apple uses this chip in their future you can bet it will be called G5s (if they decide to keep with that naming convention).
Only this time DoS would stand for Denial of Shi-- ahh nevermind, its not that funny of a joke.
It is Omniweb, thats what their icon looked like before the most recent 2 (?) updates to it.
Your armpits will smell better.
Hey! I know one guy that'll love that feature.
