It's fairly straightforward in the UK. Just don't allow smokers to take smoking breaks.
Put it in the contract of employment if you have to.
If they want to smoke at lunch time, or during any legally permitted minimum break, then go for it. But try and leave the building outside of that, and you're sacked.
I started programming when I was about 4 or 5 on the brand new Sinclair ZX81, moved on to the Commodore 64 doing BASIC and then 6502 assembler, then Amiga 68000 assembler and a bit of C and eventually moving on to Java and C# on PCs. The key thing, however, is that I never did a single programming course in my life. It was all self-taught and done in my spare time because I enjoyed it. I still program as a career all these years later.
The moral of the story is, you don't need to be taught to code - if you enjoy it, you'll do it anyway.
FYI, Chrome has its own 'task manager' built in which DOES show you the tab name next to each process so you can easily end the process you want to. Also, if one locks up, it tends to notice anyway and asks you if you want to kill it.
As for your comment "Don't open a tab that's going to lock up your browser.", well, you don't know what it's going to do til you open it, do you? And if you're a developer, sometimes you do stuff which gets you stuck in loops or whatever and need to kill the process.
So far I've found this feature one of the most useful ones in Chrome. IE7 frequently locks up and then you're shafted because you have to kill the whole browser, rather than just the one tab.
You leave a light on at the front of your house, and somebody uses that light to read the time on their watch.
This is EXACTLY the same as using somebody else's wi-fi. It doesn't affect you unless they start doing something illegal with it. The difference made to your connection speed is likely to be minimal.
I have used it on and off for the past month or two and basically it's rubbish. It's got more dodgy files on it than Kazaa has, although the fact that people can 'rate' files and comment on them means you don't end up downloading them that often. However, download speeds are just so slow, it's not worth the effort.
My advice is just to BUY the DVD you were going to rip off. That has the extra advantage of being legal.
Or if it's just short porn AVIs you're after, then it's great!
Surely if you hold down one number for a bit longer, or leave a shorter/longer gap between some of the numbers, this doesn't exactly match what they've copyrighted which means it's ok!
So, they're going to setup a studio with RED rocks in it this time, and wheel a robot around it?
Let's hope they learnt from the mistakes in the faked Apollo photographs!
(maybe a blast crater would be good this time, and maybe shining a spotlight directly at the subject of the photo kinda gives the game away a bit!)
Yes, I'm afraid you Americans have been brainwashed by your government into thinking Concorde is 'evil'. Largely because it does not contain any US parts. This is the only reason why it is not allowed to fly over to San Francisco etc.
Sad, but true.
The fact that this story has been mentioned before has already been mentioned before.
What I am wondering, though, is whether the fact that this has been mentioned before has already been mentioned before?
Apparently, err, allegedly, a friend of a friend of mine sniffed a few Exchange server packets to see what was going on, and, although he has absolutely no experience in sniffing (he just fancied a quick sniff) he says the 'protocol' seems to have been made deliberately STUPIDLY complicated, using a mixture of NetBIOS and TCP/IP, and seemingly random TCP ports for every packet.
You never know, maybe M$ will open this protocol as they did Kerberos:)
Does anybody have a link to a mirror of Jenni? or a site with some example/archived stuff from it? I'm behind a firewall and a nasty site-blocking proxy and jennicam.org is blocked:(
This DLL sits in one of the Frontpage server extensions folders so you would have to asume it's something to do with Frontpage. If you scroll through the DLL a bit further, you get some stuff about it being part of "Microsoft Design Tool", whatever that is. Anyway, everybody knew the Frontpage server extensions were completely insecure.
Does it required the connectors to be gold-plated for faster throughput?

Why would a 'Power User' move from Android to iOS? They won't be able to do any of their 'power things' any more.
This article makes no sense at all.

Why not just capture the video in 320x200 res, and then 'enhance' it back in Washington?
Personally, I LOVE the tabs being right at the top. ok, so it's non-standard, but it gives you that bit extra screen real-estate.
Last time I saw Firefox, you were half way down the screen before you even GOT to the tabs, let alone the page content.
How would Apple's patent on "Multi Touch" have benefited consumers?
I never understood why the hell Europeans swap periods and commas. Grammatically it doesn't even make sense.
Maybe it's for the same reason that Americans write dates in the wrong order?
DD/MM/YY makes perfect sense - you're going from the smallest unit to the largest as you go from left to right.
MM/DD/YY is just a bodge job which causes the rest of us hours of lost time when debugging code!
Has anybody got a version of IE written as a Google App so I can run it in the Chrome OS?
thanks

Crikey, that's awful. The whole browser freezes up for 5-10 seconds while the site is built up in Javascript. There's another reason for not using it.
Here's an analogy that DOES work:
You leave a light on at the front of your house, and somebody uses that light to read the time on their watch.

But all those impartial TCO reports on microsoft.com always come out in favour of Windows having a lower TCO, so how can this be right?!
This has got to be the smallest and coolest app ever. It's called Tube and it's 256 BYTES (yes, I said BYTES!). It can be found here:
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=3397
It doesn't use any external libraries, DirectX or any cheating stuff like that. It also comes with full x86 sourcecode for you to enjoy.
Have fun now.

e.g. Professor Davis would testify to the following general propositions
and Microsoft anticipates that Mr. Capellas would testify to the following general propositions
Microsoft expects that Mr. Katzenberg would testify to the following general propositions
Microsoft anticipates that Mr. McVaney would testify to the following general propositions
etc...
ok, so they might all be in bed together, but can they really 'anticipate' what they're going to say in so much detail?
I wish it was for me! Sadly, the site "anonymizer.com" is ALSO blocked! back to the drawing board I reckon!

IRC is really boring and full of carp. I think they should shut it down for good. It's mainly full of l@m3rZ who t@1K l1k3 th@t.
