It is at times like this when people should take advantage of the international coverage of the internet. One way of making sure that the FBI don't close down your website is by moving the website overseas. Sure, the CIA would probably try something but has to be really important to start discussing these sort of issues with a foreign government.
Hmm, anyone up for starting a website on the moon;-) You would have to take the UN to do anything about it up there.
I thought you could only get a patent for a new and original idea, not for something that is used many other people already. Does anyone know whether they patented the idea in other countries aswell, or only in the USA? If it is only the USA, then you could go elsewhere and create your website as currently you must patent the idea in each country, unless the countries have an agreement.

I reckon that with Apple now including the option the AirPort with their computers, that we will start seeing more people wanting wirless connectivity with their PCs. So eventually I would not be surprised if wireless console networks become normal. If you need it expand over the phone line then all you need is base station.
There is a company over in Japan that will paint your PowerBook to look like it is made out of wood. Just shows you that you don't have to wait around, for the portable manufacturer, to have a good looking portable.
Hmm, does anyone own a patent on nature, or can I patent myself, after all like most of us I am unique. Really though, patenting genes is like taking a billion year old book and patenting the translation of a paragraph. From this point of view patenting a gene is like patenting elements of a language and something that actually reduces our freedom to use the language.
Will drug companies start charging parents for giving birth simply because the baby happens to have gene X in them?
I agree that we need a blue gene campaign. So who is willing to put togther a blue gene graphic and the website?
This ironic thing with such a ruling is that there is nothing stopping you from moving to South Africa or something and then go and squat the address there. Of course this sort of ruling could only effectively work on people trying to squat the.au addresses.
Sounds like that the guys who were thinking about this must have been watching the Care Bears or something:
Kibibyte - Kidie Byte?
One thing they are better off doing is creating an IEEE standard to what the current units mean in the computer industry and then let everyone know about it. Though I do understand where they are coming from.
Censorship is something that works badly. On the other hand one thing that I have seen that works quite well is the the installation of an authentification proxy and a web page that lists where people have been on the internet. The general effect is that no one's web visits are anonymous, and it is up to you decide whether you want everyone to know that you have been visiting xxx.com.
Okay, this has its disadantages too, but I tend to prefer it to a dodgy piece of censorship software that does not adapt to the culture.

Well, shouldn't RedHat at least have included the small print in the e-mail? In a certain sense this could be seen as misleading advertising, something that I believe is not totally legal.
Interestingly the article says very little about what architecture the processor is going to be using. Considering what has been said before, and what processors the OS 3.5 works on, I would not be surprised if it will be a PPC chip - though would be an IBM or a Motorola?. Speed and speed comparisons aside, one advantage of taking the PPC chip is that it would allow Amiga to make use of the 68000 emulation code that has already been written for the PPC and thus reduce the amount of code rewriting, at least in the beginning.
One reason that I wouldn't mind the PPC, or any other non-x86 compatible, chip being used is because it would mean that there would be another computer company making PCs that don't us Intel processors. It would also mean that we wouldn't need to buy PPC machines from Apple for LinuxPPC;-)
As stated in another post, the format for QT is available at Apple, so this is not really the problem. The problem as stated in the previous post is the codecs, since THEY are often closed and require a licence. What is need here is an open-source codec, either one that is currently closed or one that is created from scratch. Given the circumstances of reality (Unisys never gave their compression technology to the community, for example), I believe the later would be the approach that would have to be taken.
The version of Quicktime file format, as used by QT 2.5 and 3.0 ( though I believe 4.0 use the same as the Star Wars trailer showed ), is available at Apple. The link that you want is:
One thing about AOL that has always got on my nerves is the fact that they do not allow you to use your favourite e-mail client. It would be nice for POP3 support being added to the AOL services and along with any other Internet standard technology.
One thing that comes to mind is 'Ease of Configuration'. Like many tools under Linux, configuring them is not always easy when compared to tools found under Windows, or a number of other GUI based OSs. Since Apache is working on more than just Linux, maybe a Java interface, that also uses native code, could be created.
While many of us who visit Slashdot could, or are capable to, manage a web site without any problem, a number of companies employ people you really don't want to be in those positions. For these people Windows is great, because there is a user interface and a service contract. Although you can get a service contract for Linux, you can't get a user interface for everything that you need to administer under Linux.
This is one thing I have never really I have never understood about the USA. Why on Earth should the right to kill someone (what else is a can a gun be used for?) come before that to make love and drink alchol?
I must admit, this one thing I prefer in the French culture - the ability to talk about most subjects without any hang-ups.
I know this is ls slightly off-topic, but I needed to share that.
I have never been really happy writing those man pages as I never got the lingo. What would be nice is if man supported HTML pages as I know how to write those and I know tools that know how to write them. Actually, it would be nice if man could support plug-ins so that I could also get it to point to alternative help sources (a webpage?) and formats.

First, yep I got the spelling tomato wrong.
Next, if you aren't going to make the fruit taste bad, what's the point of making the leaves taste bad. After all, the insects would go for the fruit instead.
The quality of someone's English does not necessarily reflect his knowledge in his field. If you come from London then "ain't" will probably be a integral of your language.

In cases like those, it is important for the buyer to fill in the registration form and specifiy the platform they bought it for.
I also believe that shops should ask the customer which platform they are going to be playing the game on.

For anyone interested, the various codecs are reviewed at Codec Central.

Under the Data Formats section in the left column there is a link to the documentation. Now whether you need a licence to port is another thing.

There a whole bunch of icons at http://themes.org/resources/icons/. Maybe one of the artists would be willing to let you use one they created.
