I hope that since HP now owns Compaq, the Proliant will become a better machine than when it was strictly Compaq. (If fact I hope all Compaqs are better...) </rant>
LAMP systems (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, for the newbies...) work really well and are easy to implement, especially if you know a little C,C++ and basic HTML. Looks like I might have to buy this book, any reference on this helps me...
When Debian ports it, i'll try it out. I got the last version to run. Sort of interesting, but not nearly as robust as (GNU/)Linux. apt-get install hurd;o)
CNET slashdotted? I don't think so. CNET is a fairly large site, I think it can handle it. And to the mod who gave the above an 'Insightful', what were you thinking?
I entered in my college's info, and it was $1249! Why wouldn't I go with a cheaper, yet less powerful, old-school iMac, for $749? When thinking about buying thousands of these, wouldn't it be more cost-effective?
7.3, if it is called that, doesn't break binary compatibility like the way jumping to the next x.0 release does. 8.0 will probably use gcc3 and other newer components, and it will break compatibility with the 7.x series...
Skipjack is actually in its 2nd iteration, the first was also called Skipjack. If you do download it, make sure to use up2date, the RedHat Network's updating tool. It's a free registration for the beta channel.
I have used it for Windows 98: http://98lite.net/ 98 lite is a great program, which strips out IE and other crappy features. Other/.'ers have said it before, but this is an appropriate place to mention it again.
I thought this was weird too, and I began to wonder how I missed the announcement... Then I thought, wow, 2.4.18 was released not too long ago, that was fast! kernel.org confirmed my suspicion...
Please don't become like this:

Although I agree that it's not really a 'port', the Debian project seems to think it is:

As long as you have experience putting linux on a PC, this should be no problem, as long as you don't need a modem; it's a winmodem.
Which is better, eMacs or vi?
;)
The GNU people are gonna be pissed.

DiscaimerL Bero works for Redhat, so you might not believe him either...

I'm glad that the elections are over, maybe Woddy will be released as stable now, and I can get a nice new 'unstable' debian box going!
Intel should join Transmeta(read:Linux) to oppose M$.
/.'ers by siding with M$.
Oh, right, that'd never happen... Then again, who thought AMD would try to piss off us
This whole situation is just making my brain hurt. Think I'll take 2 aspirin and take a nap.
