Seriously. The only reason I vote republican is because, in general, I hate undesirable liberal values (economic anti-darwinism) more than I hate undesirable conservative values (anti-liberty moral agenda).
I blame AMD for most of their own problems. If they promoted themselves more, then customers would be demanding their products
Yeah... just what the world needs: more marketing! It's AMD's fault that they don't have commericals with Blue Man Group (which is an obvious gauge of who makes better products).
Yours didn't have a NY Times link. And yours wasn't at all misleading and sensationalist, either. To spice things up, maybe add a condescending sentence at the end, like so:
The world's first fusion reactor is soon to be completed in France. Nuclear Fusion is what powers the sun and hydrogen bombs. w00t!
And last, but not least, submit it under the wrong category, like say, Star Wars.
the military is made up of your relatives and neighbors, not bloodthirsty robots.
How many relatives and neighbors do you know that are in the military? I count zero.
But the heart of the matter is that if you have problems with the gov't, they're not going to send the military. They'll send the ATF or something, and if the past is any prologue, they will be more than happy to infringe on your freedom and liberty.
"He said if a similar tool could be produced for newspapers, it would not be accepted by consumers. 'You'd go to your local corner shop and buy the daily paper, and you'd have these large holes where the ads were. You'd somehow feel like your 25 cents had not gotten full value,' he said."
Instead of advertisements, I get small blocks of my web site front page all over the place since I localhost so many ad sites through my hosts file. It's more like, instead of holes in the newspaper, I see MY writings in the newspaper where ads would be. Now that's a newspaper I'd like to see!
I use hotmail (signed up pre-MS) and my guess is that I'm no exception to the rule that you have to check your junk mail anyway to make sure nothing legitimate was filtered. At least once a month, hotmail filters mail from a contact (on my CONTACT LIST!).
My point being: I wouldn't be surprised if their use of sender-ID has little impact because of this problem.
If it's that bad, why not plan a sort of preemptive strike? Send all the users in your organization some Britney Spears e-mails and suspend the accounts of those who open any attachments?
Touchpads are bearable once you get used to it, they both have steep learning curves.
I disagree. None of the laptops in my workplace had trackpoints (mostly toughbooks) and despite frequent use, I never really felt comfortable with the touchpad. When I finally used a laptop with a trackpoint, it was quite a relief, as there was NO learning curve (for me).
Having since purchased a laptop without a touchpad, my only problem is that after using it all day, sometimes I need to switch from my index finger from my middle finger, since it gets a little sore despite the callous I've developed over the last few years. And no, I don't have the mouse speed all the way up to lighten the pressure, because I frequently plug in a usb mouse for gaming and don't like adjusting my mouse speed all the time.
POV-Ray only, yet the renderings are (IMO) superior to those on IRTC. I'd think it to be the other way around, but I suppose the incentive might make a difference.
Speaking of electrical celebrities, I think Tesla trumped Edison as defender of bad ideas. He incessantly pursued such endeavors as wireless transmission of power (feasible, but awfully impractical) and his death ray (a bad idea to defend bad ideas!).
This argument has been played out, but can't ever been proven.
How 'bout this? Up until 2004, I never really used p2p for movies due to bandwidth limitations and inferior hardware. Up to that point, I spent $2 in my adult life to watch a few movies at the theater while I was in Iceland: the Matrix and Episode I. Oh and, sometime around 1996 I once rented a some movies for about a grand total of $3-4 in rentals.
But for the last *6 years*, I haven't paid to see any movies, and this is not because of BitTorrent. So, I don't see the harm in (me) downloading a movie from BitTorrent. If I don't get a movie from p2p or somebody I know doesn't rent it, I simply don't see it. Therefore, I would like to think that I am in absolutely no way stealing.
Hell, if I hadn't seen the thread on ep3's leak here on slashdot, I probably wouldn't have seen it for months, assuming someone I know might rent it. Otherwise, I might've never seen it.
I found the term very misleading. The article title made me initially think this might have something to do with internetworking technology or some such.
Well, with all of our disease curing, deformation correction (not to mention aesthetic surgery), and public welfare the most unworthy humans are reproducing at enormous rates. To further worsen matters, the most worthy humans are, for personal reasons, not reproducing or having only one child furhter decreasing the population of the 'successful.' We're actually backsliding quite a bit.
And the slashdot inserted tagline at the bottom the page:
"Underlying Principle of Socio-Genetics: Superiority is recessive."
Looks the/. server agrees with you:)
I wouldn't get too worked up about it. I'm sure social parasites have always been a very successful type of human being. But you have a point: it seems like modern social constructs are trying harder than ever to help proliferate such folks... in the U.S. anyways.
Sweet, drive 20 miles for a 3 cent comic. Im there.
Well, maybe if you were a little more geeky, it would be convenient since plenty of comic stores have shifted inventories to tabletop games and such. For instance, I'll be at my local comic shop tomorrow to deliver some magic beatings and I'll be sure to pick up a free comic.
How about?

My thoughts precisely.
Yeah, keep telling yourself that buddy. The fact that you even know what "Ford" and "Chevy" mean is proof that the ads have indeed worked.
If by 'worked' you mean that I "now shudder to think of owning domestic vehicles" then you are indeed correct, the ads have worked as planned.
I second that one. I remember using that when I was a kid... and I'm 28 now.
I didn't get it from a commercial either... I got it from my dad.
I use hotmail (signed up pre-MS) and my guess is that I'm no exception to the rule that you have to check your junk mail anyway to make sure nothing legitimate was filtered. At least once a month, hotmail filters mail from a contact (on my CONTACT LIST!).

It depends on the type of item. eBay is by far the cheapest place to get magic cards... or playsets of chase rares, anyway.
Ok, sure, fine.
Can I have that check for five million USD now?
That was my EXACT same thought when I read the naive parent parent post.

What about the computer from Superman III?
Maybe he was just taking into account that SG-1 has sort of already had a movie?

How about remaking I-III instead?
I've met just as many guys who are as clueless about security as girls.
Of this, I have no doubt. But how often do you run into computer-knowledgeable females?

episode two was alright
Well, there goes your credibility.
This state has a substantial dollar value attached to it!
