  2. Uhm you got that backwards. The masses allowing homes to be used for Airbnb is a socialist move.

Folks against letting the masses use their home are individualist.

Individualism will always and forever be infinitely better than any form of socialism or communism which socialism always becomes.

  6. I definitely know it's not for everyone, just saying maybe an option for some.

For dns I use pihole at home, but I know owning a Colo server for nextcloud is not something most will do it is cheap and easy to run a NAS on your home network.

Pihole can also be ran simply and free in a virtual machine if folks wanted to.

It cost nothing to abandon 3rd party companies controlling your data and you can control it yourself.

But I agree with you 100 percent not everyone will or does like more advanced users with "home labs". I was just wanting to point out its free or extremely cheap to do so yourself and it's so much more satisfying and just learning how to do so is a valuable skill itself.

    Just an opinion of course

  7. Hehe amen... I use no "cloud" I hate that name btw, it's used like it's some "new" thing back when the name started being used everywhere... Network storage has existed since 60s... But I digress.

Personally I use freenas for backups at home and for off-site stuff I own a colocated server which I run nextcloud for me and a friend. Luckily I own the box that is colocated. But even if I didn't have a Colo, I'd use freenas and/or nextcloud at home. I have my freenas box on a vlan so my systems have access but the box itself has no net access. I wouldn't trust another company with my files, especially free services where it's only free because you and your data are the commodity that is sold and traded.

  11. Google tseries and auto subscribe or forced subscriptions

In India users get autosubbed to tseries news aggregate
they have a partnership with devices sold in their country

It's all artificial inflated numbers.. How ebay can claim millions of users use their app when their app is forced onto Android devices. India is more nefarious and there's a lot of debate ongoing about not only being forced to buy a device with pre-installed apps but now in India being auto subscribed to certain news aggregates. Similar to here in US certain Android phones force Bixby service on their users and you aren't allowed to uninstall Bixby. You'd have to root the device to get it off.

    It's shitty

  12. Some don't realize about T Series on YouTube King PewDiePie Surrenders Crown To Indian Record Label T-Series (bloomberg.com) · · Score: 4, Insightful

In India when you purchase a device, it has its pre-installed apps as most things do. Difference is it is the app pre-installed is also presubscribed to India news aggregator T Series.

So even if you don't want to, all devices purchased in India are pre subscribed to T series and the app cannot be uninstalled without rooting it.
that's why it has the numbers. Their population 9s forced to be subscribed to that channel unless they root the device which is illegal there.

Ads are targeted based on interest, what a user searches, clicks, etc. So when more males tend to view tech, code, game, and other based articles and groups and then those males receive targeted ads for jobs in the fields they show interest in, or invites to beta test a game they showed interest in, or discount on tickets to some gaming convention or concert for a band they show interest in, then that isn't discriminatory.

So the spammers went from general spam ads but corporations fussed and wanted targeted ads. Brilliant, now everyone gets targeted ads... now back to fussing...

    History repeats itself...

Targeted Ads are the new "profiling"

all arms of law enforcement from Federal, State, Local hired profilers, they taught their deputies and agents basic profiling techniques for decades. Now profiling gets attacked by left as "racist" when in fact it isn't. Now the same types are after targeted ads as "racist" or "discriminatory".

While rest of us can sit back and laugh as anyone with a couple brain cells to rub together will have ad blocking of some form going anyway.
