    I didn't get a TRS-80 at first.

my first pc was a Tandy 1000 EX, it had 256KB ram, 1 5 1/4" floppy drive, came with a RGB monitor, Dos 2.0 and Deskmate.
I had a subscription to Home and Office computing that had basic programs on several pages for different flavors of basic from apple to gwbasic etc since some versions were slightly different.

But I saw an article in the back for a floppy disk with a new compiler on it... I was so tired of writing basic, had wrote a program with tons of data lines to create a bouncing sphere on the screen which I won a contest at state FBLA competition... I ordered that new disk with this new compiler I had never heard of. Was $50 and came with a white book..

I was so happy when that disk and book came in... the disk "Power C" and the book was the famous White Power C book which I still own to this day.

being able to write C on a Tandy 1000 EX was awesome, compiling took forever for anything half complex, but I was so happy to have an EXE binary and finally done with line numbers, load/run/tron/troff :P

I was given a TRS 80 as a gift but it was after the Tandy 1000 EX, I had a Commadore as well but my Tandy 1000 EX was my favorite and was used even after obsolete until my next pc was a IBM PS/2 then a 286.

now you open Cydia go to add sources and put in http://cydia.hackulo.us/

let it refresh apps from the sources (since it's a front end for apt-get)

then install the app called "Installous" or grab the .deb directly from the repository (http://cydia.hackulo.us/installous-5.0.3-1.deb)

now you have access to all app store programs without paying, and in game item purchases without paying.

This is what American Jobs have become... reality tv show?!?

While REAL jobs are moved overseas to India or outsourced to Mexico or South America

What is even sicker is our government programs are also outsourced. My mother is disabled and I had to call to help her get some info on some upcoming changes to her Medicare which is federal program. First answer was thick Indian accent after losing temper and requesting supervisor I get transferred and on hold for nearly 10 minutes before a scratchy connection was made and they answered in spanish with thick spanish accent I said I do not speak spanish they just sat quiet on phone for nearly 1 minute before transferring me again back to an Indian.

I hung up, told my mother she's fucked for most part, but next day drove, 2 hours to a medicare office and had to sit there for 3 hours before finally getting issue resolved in less than 5 mins.

IT jobs are worse, everything is outsourced. And when I did work for an internet provider down in Orlando the callcenters were all in India with Convergys. So when problems were escalated to netops no one in my department couldn understand the broken english on the tickets. So customers would be out for hours or sometimes days while we many times had to guess at the problem and troubleshoot the entire network relying on Netsaint (now called nagios) back in the day instead of our callcenters cause none of us could understand what the fuckers were saying or writing.

Now more and more people would rather enjoy movies at home in front of their large screens, surround sound in the comfort of home with them self or with family and loved ones in a nice quiet atmosphere.

Since I work for Microsoft, but nowhere in the top levels of course. The plan is that on X86 pc's secureboot is optional in the bios for windows 8. But on tablets and smartphones it is not optional which is the test.

the plan is that secure boot is like a "beta test" for desktops since it will be optional in the bios. But the plan is on the next version of windows "windows 9" you could say that secure boot WILL NOT BE OPTIONAL on desktops.

That has been the plan all along on internal meetings, memos and even a few lectures given by top brass.

the plan is eventually all desktop pc's will be locked down with no option to turn off secure boot. It's a plan by not only operating system developers but government as well with strong support by mpaa, riaa and such lobby groups.

It's also why at first Windows 8 doesn't even support DVD playback unless you use the microsoft app store and purchase the media player addon packs, and different codecs require purchases from the app store.

but windows 8 will still allow you to run your own open source apps like VLC media player, but the plan with windows 9 is to be total walled garden like apple ios. Where apps must be approved before they can be installed.

that is the ultimate plan so yes, secure boot is optional as of windows 8 as a test on desktops, but the next version secure boot will be mandatory and unable to be turned off in the bios. Many board makers have already been to these meetings and some may offer 2 versions of the board a "linux mobo" so to speak and a licensed secure boot desktop mobo in a way.

Anyhow if people don't fight it now, just wait till next version where secure boot will be mandatory and not optional on motherboards. This is only a test rollout.

You compile everything yourself unlike redhat or debian based systems with their package downloaders that did it all for you and put everything where it supposed to go, etc. :)

Slackware "put hair on your chest" hehe, you want a specific program you downloaded the source and compiled it, if it required other libraries, then you downloaded those library sources and compiled them then go back and compile the other.

It was a "flavor" of linux I always recommend for learning, as I tell people once you know Slackware, all other flavors are easymode.

Course it's just my opinion and I've always loved Slackware for my personal machines, and yes I do see use for other "flavors" as I always run Debian on webservers and such for the simple package downloaders can just apt-get whatever needed. Course it won't be compiled specifically for you but it runs.

My top 2 linux distros are #1 Slackware, #2 Debian and that's all I use, I've played with SUSE, and such. But everyone jumped on the Ubuntu fad, and to me it's good that it's noob friendly, but it's way too noobish imo, I consider Ubuntu to be linux-light :) But again that's just my opinion.
