Israel Bissel rode 345 miles over 4 days warning everyone along the path giving warning given to him by General Joseph Palmer. Paul Revere story is a fraud and the legend never happened. And Paul Revere NEVER uttered the line "the british are coming" the entire myth surrounding Paul Revere is a legend based on a simple poem by the famous Longfellow, the reputation of Longfellow as a writer is what led to the famous legends. Israel Bissel was the true hero that warned of the british and passed the message given to him by General Palmer "To arms, to arms, the war has begun, the british are coming!" Hate political correctness that had run amok and over the many years has revised history, it's damn near like the history revisionists in the book 1984. The legend of Paul Revere was a hoax, a fraud. I remember my first distro was Slackware, I had talked and talked about getting into linux in the mid 90's but never took the leap. A buddy of mine came over and we'd hang out go play pool etc. He knew the thought of formatting my pc and starting from scratch stopped me since I was bit lazy. Anyhow when I went to get a drink refill he formatted my hard drive, therefore forcing me haha. Anyhow long story short, I installed slackware, but never could get my modem to work. I bought 3 different modems and took them back for refunds, none would work. They all advertised as "plug and play" modems. But no matter what I tried they just wouldn't work, even spent afternoon at the library on their internet looking up solutions. I finally figured out these cheap (well I say cheap but 40 - 70 dollar) plug and play modems were "software" modems. And that is when I said screw it, I waited till next payday, took the plunge and I remember dropping $130 on a brand new external US robotics 56k, the old white with like 6 or 7 lights used serial port. So expensive for me at least at the time but dammit Slackware saw that modem and I was finally online using a simple dialup program called 'wvdial', just toss in dialup number, username and pass in /etc/wvdial.conf then type wvdial at command line and eureka! dialup internet ftw! hehe ah the good ol' days... I've been a slackware nut ever since. my 2 favorite distros of all time #1 is Slackware #2 is Debian, I never use the others.

  19. I cut cable tv 6 years ago. on Ask Slashdot: Are You Streaming-Only For Home Entertainment? · · Score: 1

I have an old laptop I use I turned into a DVR so to speak I use demonoid for torrents and I use uTorrent's nice RSS Downloader feature to automatically download my favorite shows, movies, etc automatically. For on Demand viewing I use http://icefilms.info/ which has over 10,000 tv series from us, uk, and movies etc all in 1 spot that I stream over HDMI to my television. I havent had a cable tv subscription in about 6 years now. Since television nowadays is 70% spam it feels like and news is just propaganda opinion shows anymore, used to the news just reported the facts but none of them do that anymore, every news channel is only opinions and bias, the last vestige of real journalism can only be found in local news markets but those are disappearing fast also. So my routine is I use my nifty little usb wireless remote I use with my laptop to bring up the days headlines from a few different sources. Then I see what the RSS downloader has downloaded for today and watch my shows, and for my on demand stuff example if I feel like watching BSG or old Knight Rider episodes or whatever I load up http://icefilms.info/ and stream it all over my television with my laptop turned all in one media center :) no way in hell will I pay for spam television or go to a theater that charges the same price as a damn DVD PER Person to watch a movie. My local theater charges $13.50 for a movie ticket and only have 1 theater in a 50 mile radius, so with that plus spam tv you better believe I've cut cable and I have saved thousands of dollars over the last 6 years being 100% pirate with solutions as demonoid / icefilms / and other torrent/stream options. utorrent RSS downloader... great feature :)

  20. Thats also another reason to pirate on Why Has Blu-ray Failed To Catch Hold? · · Score: 1

I've been a pirate since before the days of internet back in copying vhs tapes (ugh)
anyhow I may buy the odd dollar dvd from the bargain bin, but as for new blurays I have never bought a bluray.
I download the bluray rips of movies 1080p off torrents, not the 720p unless that is all that is offered, but I normally get the 1080p rip.
I use Western digital WD TV Live with a usb wifi adapter plugged in which is plugged into my television. It will play nearly any format/codec and will play 1080p rips with no downsampling at all. So I can enjoy full 1080p on my hd tv.
The western digital wd tv you can plug a usb hard drive into it, or you can setup a share on your network and stream the movies across the lan. and it's super cheap compared to all other similar gadgets and supports all the codecs us pirates love.
Western Digital finally did it right by selling to pirates a product that works perfect for all codecs with absolutely no drm involved. And they've sold a ton and gained a lot of support in doing so.
I cut cable years ago and even before blurays and before the wdtv I used a laptop with cable into tv, I have all my television shows I keep up with using demonoid's RSS feed to automatically download as they are available which is usually 20 minutes to 1 hour after they are broadcast.
I watched the Superbowl in 720p HD Thanks to Justin.tv and Justin.tv people always restream the live payperview events :)
there is absolutely no reason to support mass media as it exists today, If television ever stopped spamming you every 5 mins then I may one day return to cable tv.
But as it is now, Where I live we have 1 movie theater within a 50 mile radius, and for price of seeing a movie in a theater I could own the dvd. Ticket price for a movie where I am at is 13.50, you add on popcorn and a drink thats 20 bucks or more per person. There is no way in hell you will ever force me to go to a theater.
I can get screeners or bluray rips and watch then in high def on my hdtv with my family and in this economy save over 100 bucks when watching 1 movie as compared to local ticket prices for same movie.
and as for television pirating, I will not pay for cable tv to get spammed non stop by ads, 40 minutes of advertising to watch 30 minutes of a show. thank god for demonoid and other torrent engins and http://icefilms.info/
thats also why bluray's wont catch on
