China needs to face reality. Any country willing to run over it's people with tanks because they dared to speak out for freedom deserves whatever comes it's way.
China has not even come close to improving its stance on human rights due to the old, power hungry, selfish, dictators who are running it.
I cannot believe that the US has given China anything approaching "most favored nation" trade status given China's utter refusal to treat it's people like human beings. No wonder I have known so many Chinese immigrants who were happy to get out of there since the goverment is so totalitarian and evil.
Enough said? Anyone downloading it from the net is stealing. Please stop giving Hollywood all the excuse it needs to go after your rights. They are halfway there with the DMCA and they are about to be all the way there with the CBDTPA.
Please stop this nonsense. You can hide behind the "it's our way of protesting" all you want, but you know it's just the thrill of knowing you got it for free that keeps you downloading.
Thieves deserve jailtime and I sincerely hope that they find everyone who was downloaded it. Maybe it'll root the bad element out of this community.
Lysis. The cells of bacteria are filled with mostly water (as are our cells). When put into a solution which is highly saline the cells burst since the water inside the cells has a lower content of saline, so the cells expand and pop.
As for virii, I'm sure it doesn't work for viruses. Some virii are fragile, however.
Anime is no more subversive than any other popular form of entertainment. Look at rock music, TV, or movies. If you don't like it don't watch, but please don't take it upon yourself to "clean it up" for the rest of us.

OPENSTEP4.2/Mach ran on Intel for years. Since MacOSX *IS* the Mach kernel with the Cocoa API as well as a hefty facelift (essentially OPENSTEP/Mach renamed), it stands to reason that they wouldn't need to start *from scratch*. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if they had, as the article suggests, maintained the x86 version in parallel in case Motorola decided to be uncooperative.
Part of the problem might be that most managers, for some reason, feel as if a coder isn't typing he/she is not doing any work.
What some people percieve as "goofing off" is actually the problem being thought out. I, personally, will sometimes sit and stare at the screen for a few minutes, thinking, until the answer comes or stand up and start using my white board. As far as not playing Quake, I can't agree more. For one it's horribly outdated and two, it sucks.;)
Is it me or are U.S. employers really turning up the heat on their IT staffers because they know that the current economic conditions are unfavorable??
Please. We've got to stop this self destructive "we want to win, but not on anyones terms but our own" attitude which is holding us back. If Red Hat makes it, then thats *GOOD* for GNU/Linux. What more do you want??
Let's face reality: GNU/Linux has not *yet* beaten Microsoft. Hesitation on our part or a "backlash" against Red Hat because they are doing well *HURTS* our cause. Try being a realist once in a while...
Your indignation is based on a common misconception about patents. Patents do *NOT* grant the right to an individual to use a particular invention. They grant the right to the inventor to *PREVENT* others from using the invention (From "Patent it Yourself" by David Pressman printed by NOLO).
Unless the owner of the patent *presses* his/her rights it is not *against the law* to do something that is patented. Also, even though software patents are wrong, they are mostly used defensively when another company claims infringement.
This is the unfortunate world we live in and some of us are attempting to change things (myself included). Please, before you mouth off about something you obviously know very little about, go read up on it before making as complete a fool of yourself as you just did.
It's not going to be as easy as it was during the bubble years when Venture Capital money flowed like Evian, but it's worth a try. You seem to have the necessary enthusiam, even if you are slightly lacking in experience. Keep in mind that Bill Gates and Steve Jobs BOTH lack a college degree and both are arguably the most successful computer nerds ever.
So, don't listen to all of these nay sayers and take a chance!!:) There are risks involved, but at this point in your life they are fewer than those you will have if you wait.
Someone should try to convince them to use open source or free software instead of allowing them to condone piracy and give the monopolies a chance to seize the opputunity to "make it right".
I agree that this man got what he deserved as far as the sale of pirated games goes. He was obviously selling the modded PS console with the intent of them being used to play illegally copied games.
The unfortunate side effect of the chip being referred to is that it will allow the play of copied PS, which an unmodded PS will not play. This, from my understanding of the chip, is due to technical reasons which were not avoidable.
This raises a larger issue, however. Once I've bought a PS, should I not be able to modify it as I see fit? Having a modded PS does not mean you're a pirate. You might simply want to play some of the Japanese games not available (and never will be) for the PS in the United States.
The Act of *PLAYING COPIED GAMES* *IS* a violation of copyright law and should be punished. But by the same token shouldn't I be able to make backup copies of my PS games *FOR MY OWN USE ONLY* under the doctrine of fair use?
How do we know that it wont be illegal to add a new video card to your computer because it might let you grab a screen shot which could possibly infringe on someone's copyright. Sheesh. Or what about those "terrible" TV cards which would let you "napsterize" television content? (this one is pulled straight from the CBDTPA stuff).
A man only has those rights he can defend. Tools should not be illegal. Convicting the man for the sale of the chip *alone* is like convicting you hardware store guy because he sells hammers and hammers can be used to commit murder.
It seems as though this society is fact approaching the "use your brain, get thrown in jail" approach so that the big vested interests can keep their revenue streams and buy even more congressmen.
This is precisely what happens when big money and politics get together.
How many successful attacks have there been on Linux boxes vs successful attacks on Windows boxes. Just because there are more attacks on Linux doesn't make it less secure, it just means that hackers are targeting it.
The flaw is not a technical one, but one of logistics. There are too many comanies/individuals which would need to agree to this in order for it to become ubiquitous. The users need to *believe* it is for thier best interests, the hardware makers need to redesign thier motherboards to accommodate it and software companies need to make their programs "trusted".
If even one of those links breaks, then the scheme will fail. The cost/benefit is just not there.
A solar day is a day measured by the rotation of the Earth such that the sun appears to pass over a fixed point on the surface.
A sidereal day is measured by the position of a given point on the Earth relative to a fixed star.
Length of the mean solar day: 24:03:56.555 in mean solar time
Length of the mean sidereal day: 23:56:04.091 in mean solar time Some other interesting facts: Maximum distance from the sun 94,537,000 miles Minimum distance from the sun 91,377,000 miles Mean distance from the sun 92,957,200 miles
Mean orbital velocity: 66,000 MPH Orbital Eccentricity: 0.017 Obliquity off the ecliptic: 23deg 27min 8.26sec
Length of the tripical year: 365.24 Length of sidereal year: 365.26
We've got to change our attitude and stop seeing doom around every corner and behind every bush. Why do you think that MS is going to such great lengths to cut Open Source/Free Software out of the picture?
The Open Source/Free Software communities pose a *very real and tangible threat* to the likes of MS and they will lie, cheat, steal, bribe, seduce and kill to maintain thier position.
We need to be tenacious, but we also need to stop spreading doom and gloom all the time...
BTW, one note on the use of the word "Palladium". In mythology, a statue of the goddess Pallas Athena stood in the city of Troy. It was believed that this statue afforded safety and security to the inhabitants. Two words: TROY FELL!

I stand corrected. Yes. Burst or shrivel, however, the result is the same. Death of the bacteria.

I believe that the rationale is:
1) any company which pratices predatory licensing like this can potentially change their licensing terms at any time so it's safer to not include it.
2) To punish Thompson Media.

Seems like it to me. GJC
Start from scratch when you have a solid, time tested, standardized, network capable window system? A fool's venture.

Sales numbers are a bad way to measure market penetration for Linux.
