this would be a killer device for me (i use windows, but need to always carry 2 laptops, and work on them as my only computer).

A high res small long life decent specced device would be worth a lot. Hopefully a good thunderbolt dock will be out too (thunderbolt provides enough power to do powered USB and VGA without external source, but they all have it).

Lots of software people there, not all traveling (I ran into a lot from CA there too). It's mostly oil and gas type stuff. The big companies pay as much as NYC without a cost of living differential, and you can get a decent apartment on the public transit (light rail) rout to downtown for less than half of manhatten, and for a 2 bedroom, significantly less than Brooklyn too (1200-1500).

The people I ran into in downtown were almost entirely there temporarily for work (like myself), or from somewhere else, there was essentially no stereotypical southern or texan culture, and it was less douche-ridden than DC, trendy than NYC, or yucky than Philly (my area). The family issue may be problematic as Texas has been dramatically reducing investment in education, but the pay/cost of living ratio should make that not too big of a problem.

I actually think sending a worthless thing into space could be a great comment on the waste of space programs for example (not one i agree with, but a very valid way to express it through artistic expression).

If it's grandstanding for attention, then it's really no more artistic than throwing a tantrum.

By those standards though, most of art throughout history isn't particularly artistic (often times being a substitute for what I snap with my camera when visiting people).

People can speculate in gold just as much as anything else (betting against the economy and on inflation).

In 2002 gold had lost half of it's dollar value from 1982. In the process it could buy about 1/4 as much per an once. Hardly a safe investment. Having very little real world use, gold has barely more inherent value than bitcoin, I can buy dollars with it, and buy it for dollars. Bitcoin at least can be used to purchase drugs directly.

if all grocery stores tripled prices I would reduce my consumption of food, I would definitely spend more of my time hungry, and get some extra calories from the liquor store.

if the illegality does not increase price, then all.the arguments about the prohibition increasing price being a large part of the problem are wrong.

I didn't mean to spark fury, but common sense says increased.price reduces consumption. I've seen addicts with money drink as much as they possibly could, and addicts when poor drink only the minimum needed, so in my observation, the consumption is inelastic argument is false.

again, I am against prohibition, but the legitimate arguments are about damage of the policy, and freedom. Not that the war does nothing at all.

The war on drugs has reduced drug abuse, but increased people abuse (as the criminals running the industry don't really feel the need to lack legally), but has certainly reduced drug abuse by increasing the cost.
