In America, with great highways ubiquitous cars and cheap airfair it would never work.
America is huge, and ruinning trains and maintaning tracks smooth enough for these high speeds is very expensive.
And when I last went to Florida I probably averaged close to half that speed, I could of course have chosen to go around half again to double that speed for not too much money (comperable to train) and not have cost the tax payers much money at all. (average speed by plane includes one hour check in and one and a half hours driving).
Of course if Amtrak did not have to maintane the cross country lines (it's not the 1800's anymore afterall) where is subsidises a ride more than plane tickets would cost (meaning it would cost less for Amtrak to give away plane tickets, then let people pay for the train) we could probably afford to subsidize the tracks more.
I like getting hit with untracable man in the middle attacks too.
For the fun that can be had on an open/WEP network see the defcon story about all pictures turned into Goatse's for example. I doubt it happens often, but still not something I want to invite on myself.
I personally prefer two square monitors (I don't know if 21" is square or not) of equal resolution. It lets me keep my primary window/application maximized and anythign else out of the way (file browsers, text/image editors (if that is not what I am doing), web browsers, and email. None of those other things will at any point obscrue any of my work. If I had a 30" widescreen i would have far more desktop space, but would probably still prefer 2 monitors (especially on a PC where maximizing on a 30" would be rediculous).
Part of my preference probably come from the type of work I do, where going above 1024x728 (or whatever it is) causes all sorts of problems.
And it's not like you can force a company/person to pay either. Though I guess you could apply it at every motion along the way and not let a company ile another motion until they pay for the last one that they lost, but it seams silly.
Also, is there a cap on how much the loser pays? I would hate to have to pay frivilous lawyers fees even if the case was frivilous.
Gasoline tax and tolls should pay for the highway system, and yet it falls real real short. The roads are massivly subsidized, part of that is covered by the tax on gasoline, the rest is covered by the tax on income.
The two sliders for mouse speed is the one that bothers me the most as a laptop user, I find the slow speed to be way to slow to use a touchpad and turning up the acceleration does little to help. The others are just small little nits that I would expect from any computer. The sound is because the G5 Tower at work sounds like a vacume cleaner 5-10 minutes out of every hour and the rest of the time is silent. Well the Hibernate is great too, I am glad to see Apple getting their laptops to be feature comparable to my 5 year old compaq.
Billboard laws are pretty much ignored in Philadelphia. They were looking at starting to fine illegal billboards to get more revenue in the budget, and clear channel through a hissy fit (don't know what they decided to do). I heard on the raidio that it is estimated more than 50% of all billboards/signs are in violation of the code withing Philadelphia.
My beach is strip mined every storm season you insensitive clod.

Apple keyboards works great with Windows computers.
In fact I prefer them, because I do not have a drop to desktop minimizing full screen apps buttun in between CTRL and ALT.

I would like to see it thinner, and with the top screen flipping out much like a Sidekick. Though the rcessed screen may cause problems.
the world will never know.
Not true.
I have no floppy drive, and SATA Hard Disk. WinXP with no service pack installed fine.
I guess you may mean the CD drive though, wich mine is PATA
Actually I couldn't remember the exact ratio, and 17" LCDs are slightly different. I was just trying to destinguish from wide.
the two things that cause headaches on LCD's are brightness and contrast ratio. Too brigth = headache, as does too little contrast.
getting a monitor with a very high contrast ratio and decreasing the brightness to where it is not painful should help.

The idiots and the un-educated.
We all benifit from un-educated people (ceap labor) and in many countries noone is educated.
Clearly you can't mix time is money with ... 2 out of 3 or it doesn't work.
The whole point is that time is money and getting something quickly costs more.
If you use cost as money, and not time, then you can wait to a slow season and get something cheap cheap cheap in most industries.
I still am waiting for a format for burnable DVD's.
It would not immediatly double there cost.
It would double it when they lost.

Kind of like Mr. Reset in Animal Crossing?
I don't buy it.
Is it so much bandwidth to track a few cars? All the weapons can be calculated both sides and just cheat checked.
Is it really so much more data than Duke Nukem 3d (9600 bps)?

If you frequently need to chmod files you do not have access to then someone is doing their job wrong, but giving sudo out is lunacy.
As for the packages, install them in your home or have the admin do it.
The admin needs to know 100% what packages are installed at the system level period.
I think the problem is they are trying to store the records on 8-tracks.
If it is ink jet then printing on the blank is a big mess.
I am speculating here, but I bet it is because it looks like this

Are the computers/extra electronics not responsible for the improved reliability of modern cars?
I always assumed they were, and am courious if I am ust full of shit.
call me when they add 2 sliders for mouse speed, not having seperate speed and acceleration settings is so last century.
Other features I like in my computers:
Touchpad hot zones
Laptop right mouse buttons
Consistant quite sound in towers
Hibernate
What does sane overhead mean? I am guessing it means WinXP or Win2k and not OSX, but I could be mis-understanding what the words mean.
