  7. Re:More recyclable than disposable... on Disposable Digital Cameras Have Arrived · · Score: 1

a 2MP camera can get 4x6 prints as good as a cheap film prossessing. Low end film prints are equivelents to 150-300 dpi images, high end ones go up to 600 dpi.

    4(300)*6(300)=2160000 or 2.16 MP

So, assuming the color doesn't suck these prints are as good as a traditional film camera and one hour prossessing. Definatly a better deal then a traditional disposable.

Also, at 10.99 for 25 digital prints it is a good deal too. Everywhere I have seen online is .49 a print, so this is cheaper and comes with the CD.

your cheap scanner is going to take a non trivial amount of time to scan 300dpi images of 25 photos, and unless you went somewhere fairly good, you will be getting a lower quality then this camera.

I agree, that if you need higher resolution (for prints bigger then 4x6) this camera is not for you, but it is a great deal for a cheap disposable weather digital or not.

I would get it because I WANT to pay. If I want to pay there is not risk in giving me a good version. Why can't the companies already accept that there is total saturation of piracy, and therefor there is no cat to keep in the bag with DRM.

Unit customization was way too abusable.

You could make paradropping colonizers, drop in, build base, airport in an army.

Also paradropping 1,1,1 (well actually I think 1,3,1 was the same cost) units was brutal.

Pound city with helicapters till it was empty, paradrop in, move helicopters into city with there last move. Repeat. I could take about 5 cities in 3 turns before the helicopters got weak.

Blinking was also WAY to powerful, but I guess that is a balance issue. Blink hovertanks with max attack totally owned. The attack rating got incredibly high towards the end.

More balance problems, the Gian were so so so powerful. with the 2 efficiency bonus they could dominate late middle game on a large map. I played and got a sick high score, and it could have been higher. I was getting 2 or 3 futute techs a turn, but tired of it so became one with the planet.

Oh well, my friend and I used to play together and 0wn the computer all night long, and it was a lot of fun. but unit building was just another imbalace in my opinion, and not a plus.

  18. Re:Talent, not clock cycles on Big Blue to take on Pixar? · · Score: 4, Interesting

I heard an interview with one hof the big guys at Pixar on NPR. He said that what they can do with the currecnt tech is a factor taken when they do a film.

Toys are plastic, ALL early CG looked plastic, thus Toy Story.

He also said that when they felt they could do fur they did monsters inc. Because they wanted to use the fur.

From the interview it sounded like every part got equal share of the attention, (the directing, the casting, the story, the graphics). All of the Pixar films have been solid childrens movies that would have worked weather CG or animated (most would have been incredibly hokey live action though).

But if a game is MultiPlayer, and you do immoral thigns to other characters (such as mugging them, or Killing them wrongly (TK) , or robbing them of everything they have) you could easily be detracting from the expierience for someone else.

Jumping into a game of Quake and being a griefer is certainly not a good thing, true it is petty immoralty, along the line of mild harrassment or teasing someone gently who is not cool with it. In that case, true it is a fantasy world, but if you are cheating to make it less fun for other people that can't be totally alright.

nobody is sayign the RIAA can look at the actualy packets sent between two people. Only that they can see who advertises what. They want the phone logs, not recorded conversation. And phone logs can be aquired quite easily in a criminal case.

Of course if they are pursuing civil charges there may be more limits (I don;t really know). ALso the RIAA should not really be allowed to pursue criminal charges, that is the police job.

People have mentioned Techtronix, another brand though is Alps. They stopped sellign them a while ago, but are available refurbished, and places still work on them. They were strongly recommended by "Quick Printing" (a trade magazine) in the Q&A section. The guy said he has 2 so that if the one ever needs to be repaired he uses the other.

My biggest complaint with them is that the "ink" is glossy. So that letter you print off has shiny black text, no matter what paper you use. I find that incredibly annoying. For color output though I give them high praise, but it is nothing that cannot be beat by a good inkjet given enough time. For high quality color output InkJet or dye-sub is the way to go.

dye sub suffers from life span issues, being barly better then a laser print.

For one offs they slowdown for photos, but for multiple prints they will put out high speed continually for even high coverage.

Also your print quality should be a non issue for multiple prints too.

Once the data is to the printer and prossessed everything will run about the same.
